I'm currently 38+2 and all geared up for my DDs arrival, but I'm very anxious about the possibility of a second labour of back to back. My first baby was in this position and I was in early labour for 3 days! Fortunately she turned when the midwife broke my waters but it came very close to me having a c section due to failure to progress Sad

I really want to avoid this happening again if possible as I'm more anxious about this than the actual labour pain! Blush

My first was back to back. I pushed for quite a while but he was born less than 3 hours after I got to hospital. Are you sure it was the position of the baby that caused you to need a cs?
Baby number two wasn't back to back. Not sure why though!

I didn't have a cs but the midwife told me afterwards she was worried I was heading that way because I was progressing so slowly, which was due to the baby's position (apparently)?!

Baby 1 B2B. Baby 2 B2B. Baby 3 right way round. Baby 4 B2B. No clue what I did differently with DC3, except for the fact that his placenta was far lower, had placenta praevia until 32 weeks, was heading for a CS with him until womb stretched and it cleared my cervix. Others had a very high placenta. Only real difference, so nothing I did!

My midwife told me (& I'm not sure it is true) that we weren't designed to be upright & that there is more incidence of back to back labour since we do less scrubbing floors etc. She told me to spend some time on all fours. I.e kneeling over a stall watching tv etc. Never had a problem personally & may not of done anyway & I figured that I had nothing to loose. I asked her because my friend had a terrible back to back labour.

Hi WanabeMum, no words of wisdom sadly but will watch this thread with interest. I was also in early labour for 48hrs but once the midwife broke my waters my daughter turned and progressed relatively quickly. I'd love to know how to avoid it second time around as 3 day labour is exhausting and the back pain was nasty!!

Don't get a chest infection and sit on the sofa for weeks eating malteasers....

Backs up what my midwife told me....

Thanks everyone! Already feel exhausted as SPD doesn't make sleeping possible at the moment so dreading the prospect of another B2B labour! Saw midwife yesterday who examined baby's position then said "hmm I think you need to spend some time on all 4's to bring her around" feel bloody terrified sitting back in a chair now lol Grin

All three of mine were back to back until during labour. Most babies will turn during labour. On all fours during a contraction shifted mine - dd3 I could tell which contraction. Then she practically fell out!

Spinning babies website it good, but it will probably sort itself out. I tried everything with dd1 and dd2 but dd3 decided not to wear myself out worrying and doing strange manoeuvres and it was fine.

Good luck!

I had a back to back baby that didn't turn and was a forceps birth (pulled out stargazing!) so also keen to know how to avoid this time (I'm 26 weeks). I was put on the drip because of failure to progress but if forceps hadn't worked I would have been c-sectioned.

I knew he was back to back for the last few weeks so I tried everything (spinning babies website, lots of time on all fours, swimming with diving down) but he didn't turn Sad. Horrible labour, third degree tear and haemorrhaged... (second babies are always easier though, aren't they??!! Smile )

I hope so Churros!!
