Hi everyone, I'm around 7 and a half weeks with first pregnancy. Feeling really sick and exhausted all the time. Have had 2 weeks off work and spent most of it in bed! Not sure how I'm going to cope being back at work on Monday as I'm a teacher and it's so full on. Any advice on how to cope with the sickness and exhaustion?

FizzyPinkWine · 04/01/2014 08:10

I'm a teacher too abimci. I've got no idea how I'm going to cope either! So tired!! Good luck to you for Monday.

travispickles · 04/01/2014 08:14

Also a teacher, also dreading Monday! Last time I had really awful morning sickness and I took a bottle of fizzy water and some rich tea biscuits. I had a plastic bag in the bin and the bin under my desk (grim, I know). Once I had to throw up just before the kids came in. I took one day off although if I felt that rough this time I would be less of a martyr. I took a residential to France for 5 days at 11 weeks- never again!!

HungryHorace · 04/01/2014 08:23

There's loads of teachers on this thread. Surrounded! :-)

Good luck today, misery. :-)

My symptoms have thankfully ramped up a bit again. I was getting quite worried. Though as the placenta starts to take over they can change, but it's impossible to be rational, sadly. :-/

mssleepyhead · 04/01/2014 08:47

Also a teacher! No sickness yet but worried about tiredness and stress. Last term I worked 12 hour days nearly every day. Can't keep that up but don't know what to stop doing to manage it all.

DichotoMous · 04/01/2014 09:12

Another teacher here too! I am also worried about going back to work on Monday, mainly due to the tiredness (yesterday I slept for 12 hours overnight, then only awake for 6 before needing a nap!). I am hoping that I can just keep ploughing on knowing that I can sleep as soon as I get home. I don't want to tell anyone at work until I'm past 12 weeks but may well leave it til Feb half term (14ish weeks) if I can - my place is very gossipy so quite like the idea of a 'drop and run' approach... Grin

mama I hope the EPU can give you some reassurance Thanks

Hi ladies
I've not posted for a while, I've been following the threads but for some reason I haven't posted. Feeling a bit weird at the moment. If you remember I had a private scan on the 17th dec where she couldn't really see much, other than that I was pregnant, but thought I was probably early 6 weeks. I went back again on New Year's Eve and there was a clear difference- a definite blob of baby with a little heart beating which I was delighted to see. However she measured the baby and said I was 6 weeks and 4 days!? Which has made me really anxious. How could I be 6 weeks on both scans? There was definitely growth on the scan that I could see? Also 6 weeks doesn't tie in at all with when we think we conceived, so my heads spinning a bit with it all.... Is there something wrong with the baby and that's why is small? Am I going to lose it??

To top it all off what little nausea I had has gone and when I went to the toilet earlier, there was a little brown stringy discharge on the tissue.

Feeling sad and anxious Hmm

HungryHorace · 04/01/2014 09:46

Oh, FEE, try not to worry. You saw a beating heart, which is positive. And at this early stage, a mm can make the difference between how old the baby is, size wise. How pregnant do you think you are?

If you're worried, can you contact the EPU?

I'm now in a disaster zone...the smell of bacon is making me sick. Nooooooo! Hopefully I can still eat it ok!

lucyfluff · 04/01/2014 10:09

Teacher here too Grin although I have now gone into CM so I can spend time with the boys and less stress!!!

Congrats on the scan nula thats lovely news Smile

Ive had previous episodes of bleeding in pregnancy, from brown stringy to a gush of dark red and both were fine. As long as no cramps and bright red blood try not to worry ladies, it can be perfectly normal. I know thats easier said than done Smile

mszeenwithabean · 04/01/2014 10:13

thank you for the add to fb Horace Smile

Ruggle · 04/01/2014 10:14

FEEdec, sounds like they weren't very sure of the dates at the first scan so may well not have been 6 weeks especially if they couldn't see anything.
Early scans are so not reassuring. Try not to worry!

I've had lots of weird cramps, aches and pains over the past few days. My urges to pee all the time have returned and I'm now vomiting in the evening as well as morning. Last night I'd just scoffed half a jat of pickled onions (I'm an addict) and that was the most unpleasant thing to throw up! Never eating them again!

8+2 today.

mszeenwithabean · 04/01/2014 10:17

FEE I really hope that you and mamma can be reassured by the EPU... just remember you saw a healthy heartbeat surely that is a positive and good sign..fx for you both...xx

FEEdec · 04/01/2014 10:18

Thanks ladies. It's so hard not to worry. Really wish I hadn't had the early scan, it's certainly not reassured me. I keep trying to remind myself there was a clear difference between the 2 and that seeing the heartbeat is a good thing.

I was expecting to measure around 8 weeks which would tie in with when we think we conceived and with the 2-3 weeks I got on a pregnancy test on the 11th December.

It's just a waiting game I suppose until my dating scan or until something happens. If I continue with the brown loss over the weekend I'll contact EPU

onion19632 · 04/01/2014 11:23

My daughter has come out with chicken pox! I have had it (both as a child and an adult) but does anyone know if I should be worried or not? Thanks

Feelingfatty · 04/01/2014 11:25

I would call epu onion, nothing you can do now so try not to worry, I'm sure all is okay Thanks

ScienceGeekGirl · 04/01/2014 11:45

There's an actual baby in my belly! Just had my scan and my dates are exactly right (thank you ovulation sticks). There were little limb buds and a heartbeat. I'd be absolutely thrilled had the journey made me sick so hoping when the nausea wears off I can be full on happy. Dear god not looking forward to my commute Monday. Those lucky fellow passengers are gonna love me.

Anyway yay!

Fee try not to worry, you saw a heartbeat and that's what is important, try to focus on that.

lucyfluff · 04/01/2014 11:46

Has anyone spoken to missukmummie?? She hasnt been here for a whileHmm

lucyfluff · 04/01/2014 11:46

Yay science Grin thats really sweet!!!

HungryHorace · 04/01/2014 11:55

That's great news, Science. :-)

I'm worrying because my symptoms have really decreased since yesterday. They're there a touch, but barely so. I'm aching a fair bit too on the right. I may ring the EPU on Monday - they're closed at the weekend - to get advice.

Lucy, no, I was wondering where she is too. :-/

AntoinetteCosway · 04/01/2014 12:18

I'm a teacher too, though I left my job in the summer to become a self employed tutor. This way I get to be a SAHM and still keep my hand in the game-I hope!

Those of you worrying about symptoms, I know how you feel. I keep telling myself it's normal for them to come and go-I hope it is!

Abimci · 04/01/2014 12:22

Wow lots of teachers! Makes me feel a bit better to know I'm not the only one wondering how I'll cope. Guess we'll all have to just take it a day at a time

Mssleepyhead I was also working minimum 12 hour days last term so also thinking what can I put on the back burner this term. Easier said than done!
DichotoMous I've also been sleeping 12 hours at night and napping during the day! It's insane to be so tired after 2 weeks off. My other concern is how I keep it from people for another 5 weeks when feeling sick all day. I may just tell my headteacher. Anyway good luck on Monday all of you.

As for all you guys worried about your symptoms, all I can say is judging by all my friends who have been pregnant, everyone just reacts differently. Some of my friends had no symptoms at all, others only had them a couple weeks and one was ill through most of her pregnancy but all have had healthy babies. So try not to worry although I know it must be hard.

Good luck everyone smile

Abimci · 04/01/2014 12:23

Ok so the smiley face didn't quite work, someone may have to help me with those!

HungryHorace · 04/01/2014 12:27

Abi, mine came and went last time, so I know I'm a bit irrational. But that's how pregnancy is.

I slept quite well last night too, which I found helped my sickness with DD.

Don't forget your square brackets: [ smile ] without gaps Smile

ClarissaG · 04/01/2014 12:33

A warning - here I am idly browsing on a Saturday afternoon and thought it would be fun to Google images of 8 week babies. DON'T DO IT, it will either completely freak you out or make you quite upset. Stick to those nice drawn images the NHS provide (which is what I was expecting). Trust me! Cxxx (feeling more sick, if that were possible)

mszeenwithabean · 04/01/2014 13:50
