You other mothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an ever expanding waist
And a round thing in your face
You....'d better give her some cake....

etc, etc,

New thread! Enjoy!

I loved a bit of Suede. When all my friends were into boy bands I was singing along (badly) to Oasis, Blur, Placebo etc. My formative teen years were spent lusting after Leo Dicaprio (still do), watching friends whilst styling my Rachel cut and scoffing at my friends poor taste in music.
I have made it to 33 weeks before banishing myself to the sofa. I couldn't take the restless legs anymore so I've decided that sleep isn't for me anyway. This is a good opportunity to get through my reading list, sneak a Christmas star biscuit from the kitchen and be thankful for the wonderful addition of our downstairs bathroom.
Only 5 more broken sleeps till Christmas. Smile

Thisisfreakingmeout · 19/12/2013 07:39

Love all the indie kids coming clean. Unreformed indie/ rock lover checking in.

Been to a couple of gigs while preg (lit at 9 weeks, everything everything at about 24 and Dillinger escape plan at about 28 - got some stares as that band are rowdy and shouty!) I will probably avoid now on (33+5) due to the standing and hanging around.

Also tried to play my guitar last night, not that easy with te bulge in the way! The unexpected probs while prego!

EeyoreIsh · 19/12/2013 07:59

I was a proper little indie kid too, I loved my doc martins etc. Many happy days were spent at Camden market. I haven't been to a gig for years though.

Feeling a bit better today, no plans to eat out for a while so I shouldn't get any more allergic reactions. I felt well enough to enjoy the meal out last night, at least. And I have a bloody steak, it was so so so good Blush

Baby is having another quiet 24 hours but I'm pretty sure it's moved position. It has wiggled enough to stop me worrying too much.

HarlemWobble · 19/12/2013 08:11

Thanks Thisisfreaking good to know the reason behind the WC jab soreness!

Marzi good luck with the dissertation. The end is in sight!

Lovesto I think it's your last day in the office today. If so, hope it's a good'un and they send you off in style!

Serious lack of sleep for me last night, but his time was DH related and not pg! Silly sod had his Xmas do, missed the last train and was too drunk to find a taxi willing to take him, so I had to pick him up... at 2.30am! I'm storing up those brownie points to convince him a storksak changing bag is an entirely appropriate and necessary purchase for the baby!

notoneforselfies · 19/12/2013 08:16

Dawnofthedee GrinGrinGrin at waterfall cardigan spotting!

Was utterly obsessed with blur. Had myself a green day and elastica revival moment yesterday too.
Sorry, will stop going on about 90's stuff soon. Just run out of baby stuff to talk about for the mo Wink

About to get out of bed and get myself tarted up for our office crimble do. Have to schlep to London for it though annoyingly. Office manager booked me on. 9.30 train despite asking for 10. Not going to make 9.30 as it'd mean having to walk to the station (1.5 miles) which is a physical impossibility (traffic too bad to leave house before 9.30) so going to have to try and blag being on a later one with the conductor. Hoping large baby belly and wet blinky eyes will see me through any potential jobsworth-esque confrontations.

Will post my weekly bump pic of my secret Santa-gifted leggings and tranny makeup on fb soon! Trying to find a facial-slimming hairstyle. Been worried about the amount of water retention in my hamster cheeks and neck and get shocked every time I look in a mirror. Then saw my dad for the first time this pg the other day and he swiftly told me I had a fat face. Nice. Hmm. Poor guy felt awful though as he didn't mean it nastily! And he's right anyway Grin

Shropshiremummy2B · 19/12/2013 09:20

Crispan from Kula Shaker was my 90's crush. That's probably the first time I've thought about him in 10+ Years.

thisisfreakingmeout my best friends fiancé is in Everything Everything!!! Where did you see them? I'm the least musical person in the world but I did go and see them in Manchester. Love it when people have actually heard of them.

misskatamari · 19/12/2013 09:24

Harlem that sounds very annoying - definitely deserves a lovely changing back reward!

Notone - I'm with you on the fat face. I keep having dreams where I look in the mirror and I have about 10 chins lol! I hope you manage to blag the later train and that the meeting goes well.

Wow so many indie kids amongst us. I was indie obsessed as a teenager (Ahhh britpop). I even made my mum go and buy me cardboard cutouts of Liam and Noel Gallagher from hmv when be here now came out. Oh the shame Grin

I've been getting baby into music rock in utero - poor thing has had to listen to quite a bit of my out of tune crooning of late! I am more emo now to my shame (but only good emo! Grin)

Eeeek can't believe how close Christmas is! I only have finishing touches left on my scarf presents and if I can find where DH has put my sewing machine I should hopefully be able to get one of his pressies finished today Smile fingers crossed anyway! Need to blow up my gym ball today as well and get this baby head down ready for midwife on Christmas Eve!

misskatamari · 19/12/2013 09:37

Oooh and gift wise - I saw this recommended somewhere and have bought a copy to give to DH as part of his Pressie - book of us

It's a bit cheesy but I was having a look through last night and it was really nice to actually think back to all the stuff we've done since meeting and write it down as you just forget day to day. Some of the questions are a bit crap so I'm using it as a bit of a scrap book and adding my own questions plus some printed pics etc. I think as we're expecting our first baby and we've been so focused on that (and me being a big moany Preggo) it's been nice to remember how we met and stuff we did etc. You fill it in as you go along (does sound a bit barf inducing but when I'm old and grey think it will be a lovely thing to look back on Smile).

Right off to listen to some metal and stop the cheesiness Grin

marzipanned · 19/12/2013 09:39

Loving all the 90s reminiscing! The kids nowadays are so hard done by with the current music selection. Shrops Aged about 14 I ran into Crispin in an overpriced North London food shop. Managed to keep it together to get his autograph then hyperventilated all the way home.

This baby has been exposed to a very odd selection of music in utero, not sure what she makes of it all. She did have a good boogie when Sean Paul came on Radio 1 in the car the other day though.. Hmm

Harlem you are a better wife than me, I was furious at DH for coming home from Christmas party at 3am and he had managed it all by himself!

notone can't wait for the tranny bump shot. The ultimate tranny disguise, no? Hope you enjoy the do and don't have too many train nightmares.

Eeyore Movement has completely changed over here as well. Hardly any kicks any more, just very obvious squirms and shifts. I was hoping that was her getting herself head down, but had hiccups up near my tummy button this morning.
Though I know that if she is kicking, I'm not feeling it, because the trace at hospital was picking up lots of activity I was completely unaware of. So I'm trying to be a lot more relaxed about it all (easier said than done :) )

Sassy20 · 19/12/2013 09:42

No one has mentioned my favourite indie band - it had to be The Wonderstuff!!! Loved them and still do.

marzipanned · 19/12/2013 09:47

x-post misskat I think that book looks really sweet. I was actually reading my journal from when DH and I first got together the other day and it brought a tear to my eye (well, doesn't everything at the moment) as I had written about wanting to have kids with him one day in the very distant future. I need to start filling in my baby book but I also worry it will be a jinx if I do before she's born Blush

notoneforselfies · 19/12/2013 10:35

Also re-read my diary recently from when I first went out with DH, 17 years ago! Complete with my writing my name with his surname and doodling lots of hearts in the margins etc. Grin

marzipanned · 19/12/2013 10:54

Aww notone were you at school together?

LovesToBake · 19/12/2013 10:57

Harlem you're right - it is indeed my last day at work today, thank the lord! Decided not to schlep in early so I gave DH the green light to go into work early and I dropped DS at nursery and got a later train. I still have nothing to do although we have some sort of Christmas lunch buffet thing for our team which I'm nervous about. It's been organised by a middle aged man (this is a mostly new team to me since the recent merger) and I am half expecting an Iceland-style spread in our conservatory/meeting room with Kerry Katona popping up to serve us a prawn ring. At least if I set my expectations low I can only be pleasantly surprised...

notone you got together with your DH 17 years ago?! How old were you, 10?! I thought we were pretty long term, having been together 12 years but that is on another level!

Another indie fan here, although I was on the Oasis side of the Oasis vs. Blur divide. That reminds me, I am going to dedicate a good chunk of January to digging out old CDs and having a trip down musical memory lane.

DawnOfTheDee · 19/12/2013 11:02

Oh my god! Kula Shaker! Govinda jaya jaya.... I loved them!

And Sassy you and my dh would get on very well - he loves The Wonderstuff along with Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Lemonheads, The Charlatans (his favourite who he's been to see loads as they never split up!).

Ok....our first get together has got to be at a 90's gig or indie night somewhere. Obviously I'll need time to lose about 30 stone first so I can fit into my indie kid garb. Shall also buy more eyeliner. Ooooh and lipliner.....dark lipliner....anyone remember that sexy 90's look. Mmmmm.......

notoneforselfies · 19/12/2013 11:06

Haha! I was 16 and he was 17 when we properly got to know each other an started 'dating'. We first officially met in our village panto when I was 6 though! (I have it on VHS) We went out for a short while then split when he went to uni, as did I a year later. He went travelling after uni and we got back in touch (friends reunited, before Facebook days!) and met up and got together again on his return - 11 years ago. It then took him 8 years to propose Hmm

notoneforselfies · 19/12/2013 11:09

Dawn - lip wear then: did you sport heather shimmer or coffee shimmer by rimmel?!! Haha! Then in the late nineties I used to put concealer on my lips and line with a dark liner. So odd.

LovesToBake · 19/12/2013 11:15

Wow notone that is a fab story of how you got together. He took his time to propose though, didn't he! Love that you have footage of you both aged 6/7 on VHS.

So how/when did you all meet your partners? We met at the end of our first year at uni, so I was 19 and he was 20. I was drunk and playing the piano at a friend's party (hosted at the house of her rich parents as she was local to the uni, hence the piano) which allegedly caught his attention. It was right at the end of the summer term and I was due to go and work in a restaurant in Portugal for the summer. Having known each other 5 minutes, we somehow managed to line him up a job in a nearby bar and he came out as well. Looking back, that was a massive punt!

DawnOfTheDee · 19/12/2013 11:23

Yay! Heather shimmer was definitely part of my 'look'. I wonder if they still make it.....Grin

I met dh dancing to the Grease Megamix at the student's guild (birmingham uni). We had a snog before we even spoke, then went back to his where I stayed until the next evening. When I left he gave me a cd of the band he was in as it had his number on it (I really really loved indie boys) and we've been together ever since! He proposed after we'd been together 5 and a bit years and now we've been married for 5. Grin

OMG LIP LINER. I had completely forgotten erased it from my memory Hideous stuff. YES to the indie get together. I might even be persuaded to re-dye my hair that fetching shade of black (came out grey, really) that stained our bathtub for months. Sorry, Dad.

Am loving these 'how we met' stories! The village panto, the Grease megamix... Ours is similar-ish to yours Loves. We met mid way through first year of uni (also age 19/20) and got together at the start of the summer hols. We both had thought the other was out of our league, it took a very drunken party to shake that notion..Now I think we realise that in fact nobody else would put up with either of us :) He moved in (to my Dad's house - was at home for the holidays) that first night and I haven't managed to shake him since!

Am now also really hoping that Kerry Katona is at Loves' buffet. "Aww, darling, are you knocked up? Let me get you a Bacardi Breezer, mah bubz love 'em."

EeyoreIsh · 19/12/2013 12:27

notone Oh my word, you've taken me right down memory lane with heather shimmer. We all used it despite having totally different skin colouring Grin

I'm loving maternity leave. Up early so went into town, spent ages in baking and fabric shop, sat down with a green tea and cake (lemon polenta, yummy!) whilst DH did his Xmas shopping, and strolled back via waterstones and the park. Now having a sit down before starting work on moving furniture into our new bedroom.

DH and I met through work years ago, when I was 20 and he was 28. I thought he had sexy cheekbones and he liked my legs Grin we were both in serious relationships at the time, and he was my friend's boss. There was briefly a moment 4 years later when we were both single and we snogged (I pounced on him!) at his Xmas do. But he went back to his ex and I moved abroad. Then four years later we ended up working in the same department again, he wanted to meet for a coffee and I got so overexcited I couldn't actually meet him as I'd just started dating someone else. As soon as I became single 18 months later I tracked him down on Facebook, and we've been together since Smile He's my rock.

That was really long, sorry!

LovesToBake · 19/12/2013 12:49

Dawn we also met at Birmingham Uni! What years were you there? We were 2000-2003...

sunflowered · 19/12/2013 13:51

Ah, lipliner... And orange foundation (that might be a 13 yo thing though rather than a 90s thing...) And crop tops. I saw some skinny young things wondering round town in them in the summer and was informed by a very knowledgeable source they were some sort of retro fashion statement Shock

Dh and I met in freshers week 11ish years ago and have been together pretty much ever since. Who would have thought a drunk snog in front of all our new friends at a cheesy freshers club night would have got this far... We did split up for a while after we graduated, then got back together at another boozy day out Blush much to my shame after spending months telling anyone who would listen what a tosser he was...

Well, our carpets are in. I should feel overjoyed but...

They left the place in such a CRAPPY state. Rubbish and bits of carpet scrap everywhere, one of the rooms they were working in stinking of smoke (WTF) and urine all over one of the toilet seats.

I really hate this house. I know everything will seem brighter when it's all been tidied and cleaned and Rug Doctor-ed but right now I just want to run away from it and move into a lovely clean new build. Preferably one whose toilets have never been used.

And, rant over. Back to discussion of halter tops!
