You other mothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an ever expanding waist
And a round thing in your face
You....'d better give her some cake....

etc, etc,

New thread! Enjoy!

I don't know what size my blankets are, bigger than Moses basket but I just folded them so they were thicker. Means you need fewer blankets too.

EeyoreIsh · 11/12/2013 16:54

loves, thingy, thanks for that reassurance. I can't face the day without a shower, so glad to hear it's manageable Smile

I had a bit of period like pain yesterday too, I put it down to being really run down as I also had lots of BH.

I've set my out of office and closed the laptop, and I'm now watching masterchef Smile I've still got to go in next week to hand stuff over, and I've got a few things to do, but I can do those in my own time and stop when the ribs hurt.

winterflowers · 11/12/2013 17:07

Love the pregnancy dwarves! Think I have definitely worked my way thru all of them at some point, except leaky as still nothing on tht front. I'm only just 29 weeks though and having heard what you guys have said am not too concerned.

Little one has really become miss squirmy in the past days. Still get some monster kicks but mainly feels like she is wriggling round and round and then trying to get out.

Glad you have been signed off eeyorish it sounds like the best thing and woohoo sassy for making it to mat leave! I finish next week and cannot wait. So hard to keep motivated now. Six days!

CubanoHabana · 11/12/2013 19:09

I want mat leave now! Still have 21.5 working days left :-(

Jealous!

HarlemWobble · 11/12/2013 19:24

Evening!

Apologies for the lack of posts, I seem to have lost 2 weeks somehow! Last time I posted I was about to have my GTT, which came back fine. Julietee sorry for only just coming back to you on your question, thankfully it's been answered by many already, but in my case the only risk factor I had was my DF and 2 GPs having type 2 diabetes.

So we finally moved house 2 weeks ago and have started a mammoth redecoration project! Getting it all finished by the time baby arrives may be a little optimistic! Work is still crazy as ever, and still no mat cover sorted despite me having just 29 days left in the office not that I'm counting I must have interviewed 20 different candidates but none of them fit the bill.

I'm very envious of those of you starting mat leave, it really does bring it home how close to the end we are. I'm glad you've been signed off eeyore and misskat. It sounds like you both need some time to rest and de-stress!

Fingers crossed I'll be able to keep more up to date with the thread more easily now that I have a longer commute - I can catch up with all your posts on the train journey!

Have lovely evenings all x

misskatamari · 11/12/2013 22:27

Awww cubano - at least you have Christmas in the middle to break it up a bit - I'm sure mat leave will be here before you know it!

Harlem - good luck with the decorating! I'll keep my fingers crossed you get it all done before baby arrives.

God mine must have moved as she's started a merry little dance on my cervix! Oh my god the knitting needles!!!! It actually makes me yelp when she boots it! Just hoping she shifts soon! Time for some "rainbow relaxation" - hopefully when it tells me I will have a good nights sleep my subconscious will listen and I won't be awake at 4am again!

mrscookie78 · 12/12/2013 07:25

for bras they like you to go around 37weeks I think when your baby may of dropped down so your ribs have moved back slightly. I got mine from m&s and they were spot on when my milk came in! Grin if you ask at these places they will tell you the best time to come and get measured.

HarlemWobble · 12/12/2013 08:01

Couldn't get back to sleep after 4am toilet stop. Today is going to be a long one...yawn...

I feel your pain cubano. When do you break for Christmas? Hopefully you'll get a nice break and the countdown to mat leave flies by in January!

SugarMiceInTheRain · 12/12/2013 08:19

Long day ahead for me. Really tired and fed up, but have to go and help in school today. Yesterday I managed to slam my own hand in the door (eejit Hmm) and two of the fingers on my right hand are mashed up, bruised, swollen and cut. Just what I need for teaching piano and making loads of stuff for Christmas Confused

Less than 2 weeks til Santa comes! Xmas Grin Are we ready?

Also envying those who have started ML. Time to relaaaaax Smile

misskatamari · 12/12/2013 09:13

Ouch sugar - that sounds nasty!

I managed to avoid the 4am wake after doing my hypnosis cd - I don't know if there's a correlation but I'm gonna try and take more notice. I don't do it every night and some nights sleep through really well and others I don't so would be interesting to see if it's that which affects it.

Not ready for Christmas here. I've got most of the presents we need to get just bits and bobs left. Loads if making to do though which I must sit down and actually crack on with over the next few days! I really want to know if we're going to be getting the new carpet before Christmas too as we currently can't do any house sorting as there's no point bringing all the downstairs possessions back from the nursery just to cart em up again when we need to move the furniture. However if I know we won't be getting it I can at least get the tree up and bring down some bits and bobs. Hopefully I'll know this week Smile

Good luck those of you still working x

gnittinggnome · 12/12/2013 09:20

eeyoreish I'm hoping to get a shower when DH is around to look after Bean, either first thing in the morning or when he comes back from work. But if that doesn't happen, letting the LO holler for a minute or two whilst you get clean isn't going to cause any damage. We got the cortisol-stress hormone talk as well as NCT, and tbh I can't help but feel a minute here or there won't harm them. This is also the talk where we were told that if we felt ourselves just losing our rag, to put the baby down somewhere safe and leave the room for a minute or two, so we don't do anything we'd regret. So it can't be ok in one instance, but absolutely forbidden in the other.

sugarmice oh that sounds horribly painful! The last thing you want to do in this weather is ice it, but that would help. Hope it heals soon.

EeyoreIsh · 12/12/2013 10:36

sugar that sounds painful, I hope your fingers recover soon.

I've started my first day of freedom by waking at 5, but then going back to sleep until 10 Grin oh yeah! Lots I want to get done today so I should move soon, but it's so cosy in bed. Although DH has kindly turned planet rock up really loud and then left the house, so I might need to get up just to turn the radio offHmm

Unplastered · 12/12/2013 12:39

Seriously, it is fine to leave the baby to cry for a few minutes while you do something, as long as they are safe. So put the bouncy chair or Moses basket on the bathroom floor while you have a shower, or in the corner of the kitchen while you prepare a meal. Don't let them panic you!!

LovesToBake · 12/12/2013 13:02

Agree with Unplastered, that is some serious scaremongering to suggest you can't fit in a shower! After all, newborns sleep LOADS and while it's sometimes lovely for this to take place on your lap on the sofa or snuggled in next to you in bed during the daytime, it is equally good to get them used to napping in their Moses basket (or equivalent) at which point you can shower to your heart's content.

marzipanned · 12/12/2013 13:12

gnitting I am a bit Hmm that you got the cortisol talk; I believe that link was discovered by studying the brains of Romanian orphans, who had obviously been completely neglected.
Our teacher told us that one of her three children was a 'screamer' and pretty much cried nonstop for 6 months. There was no way she wasn't going to put him down crying!

One thing I am a bit nervous about is what you refer to Loves That is, napping on the sofa, and then me falling asleep. The last thing I want to do is scaremonger - and I know that countless parents doze off with their kids on the sofa, and it's absolutely fine - but I know of one couple for whom this ended in the worst possible way. But I'm sure it just happens, when you're so exhausted....

LovesToBake · 12/12/2013 13:19

Marzi, sorry to hear about the couple you know. I think you'll know when you're so tired that it's not sensible to be holding the baby while they sleep. That's where having a Moses basket in the living room is a good option so you can transfer sleeping baby from you into the basket and then get a bit of shut eye yourself. I don't think I ever dozed off in this situation - but then I'm not much of a daytime napper really.

marzipanned · 12/12/2013 14:47

Thanks Loves. That's good to hear, because I had brought this up with another friend who's a new-ish Mum and she basically said she falls asleep with the baby on her all the time and doesn't worry about it. I think I always know when I'm going to doze off, but I've never undergone little baby sleep deprivation :) We don't have a Moses but I will be keeping the carrycot part of the pram for downstairs snoozing.

LovesToBake · 12/12/2013 15:08

Absolutely - carry cot is spot on for downstairs snoozing. Especially as going for a walk in the pram usually sends them to sleep, so you can just roll it into the house and have a little sit down yourself while they sleep. My DS went through a looooong phase of motion being the only really reliable thing to get him off for a nap so I would just do laps around the block until he'd gone off and then race home to have a sit down and a cuppa before he woke up!

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 12/12/2013 16:01

Marzi I'm so sorry to hear about the couple you know. I can say that I was absolutely exhausted for the first 6 months and I never once fell asleep with DS on the sofa or anywhere other than safely in bed at night. And even then I was really in tune with how I was laying and where DS was in relation to me.

marzipanned · 12/12/2013 17:08

Thanks lastnight. That's good to know. I have read that on co-sleeping websites - that you are very in tune to where the baby is and their safety. I must have said before, I am a born worrier, so it is very reassuring to hear your experiences :)

marzipanned · 12/12/2013 17:38

Sorry to make the thread a bit depressing there :(

On a much happier note - does anyone else remember the couple who were fashion designers from OBEM?

Video of the lovely home water birth of their second daughter here:

heatherfrancesca.wordpress.com/2013/11/13/my-home-waterbirth-story-and-video/

I'm all weepy now :)

notoneforselfies · 12/12/2013 17:58

Just back from growth scan. All is well! Fluid is normal and baby is measuring 70th percentile apparently. She has no idea why I was measuring so big. Maybe it was the donuts. Enormously relieved and celebrating with a cheeky glass of red. Also making candied clementines to make the house smell Christmassy! Lush. Smile

marzipanned · 12/12/2013 18:18

Ooh really glad to hear that notone. Do tell about these candied clementines?

EeyoreIsh · 12/12/2013 18:20

Great news notone. How do you make candied clementines?
