Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thank you for the 2nd link, f&t! By the way, I can never keep up either, or if I do keep up it means I really should be doing something else... I usually just reply to the last few posts, although I try to at least skim read most of the thread.

I have just checked my eligibility for all things maternity, and it looks like I can claim maternity allowance, but not stat mat pay. I feel like I've actually done something useful with my morning off for once, even though I've spent most of it on here and browsing Pinterest...

Jolleigh · 01/10/2013 12:41

Can't really describe the flavour of mace Pram. It comes from the outer shell of the nutmeg seed so as you can imagine is quite strong. It's normally used in sweet stuff (think doughnuts and jams) but with certain savouries it's beautiful. Strongly flavoured meats compliment it quite well, hence I generally add a touch to beef stew (or ox tail if I've found some good looking pieces). In savoury food I will advise use very sparingly!

FoxMulder · 01/10/2013 12:46

Unfortunately Pram he already has a manual pays-a-pittance job.

BNmum · 01/10/2013 13:06

Jesus wept! I hope everyone is well, I've just got in from my 16week appt at the hospital and had to rant about my stressful morning. Wee test and blood pressure all good, and results from last blood test show good iron levels -all good, tick. Next on the list was to listen to the heartbeat, out the Doppler comes and try as she might the midwife couldn't find anything. She reassures me this is normal and goes to get another Doppler to double check. She returns assuring me she'll find it no problem now....30mins later still no heartbeat. Midwife goes off to find a colleague and im left thinking "nausea has gone, I haven't felt any movement and now no heartbeat, this isn't good". In walks the top dog, laughs as soon as she sees me and jests with the other midwife "she's only little, what's wrong with you!?", pulls out the Doppler and finds the heartbeat within 2mins. Panic over, I was so grateful I could have kissed them both. I can't believe that my bambino is a little horror already, who would have thought it would start in the womb! Just making some spag Bol for tea tonight and had to have a quick swig from the bottle of red wine before chucking the rest in the pan.

BNmum · 01/10/2013 13:07

Sorry for the mammoth post

Jolleigh · 01/10/2013 13:09

Sorry for the worry BN - I'd have been the same. Glad all is well. Brew

Edamame · 01/10/2013 13:16

Yes, you easily earn your benefits ten times over by posting on MN Pram, it's a public service you're performing here Grin. I'm gonna recommend you for the New Years Honours list

I did exactly the same this morning Super, Mat Allowance for me too. And then I cleaned the fridge

HypnoBirthing book / CD arrived today, perhaps a bit early to start but is anyone else trying similar?

Edamame · 01/10/2013 13:18

How terrifying BN Phew!

liberuna · 01/10/2013 13:26

Hi guys Need advice. Having a little bit of a freak out.

I've twice now had this 'clenching pain' going across the belly area but below the ribs. It feels like my intestines are being squeezed from right to left. It lasts about 5 seconds in total but I have to stop whatever I'm doing.

Is this normal? I feel fine otherwise?

:(

x0gawjus0x · 01/10/2013 13:26

Glad was a good outcome bn bet you were so scared when she left to get someone else!!!

My mw couldnt find mine but im really long (5'10) and she was looking for it by my belly button needless to say when she got near my foof we heard her.

glad everything went well for you x

x0gawjus0x · 01/10/2013 13:28

That sounds like contractions?? lib Maybe youre getting braxton hicks they say you can get it as early as 16 weeks x

LyraSilvertongue · 01/10/2013 13:28

Cold sores aren't dangerous to babies but herpes around the fanjo can be transmitted to babies during birth if they've ruptured. Not sure what can be done about them.

Was it Becca with the suspect spot? A cold sore would feel tingly and itchy. I used to get them mildly (never ruptured) after 11 years with XP who got them badly. Yet another reason to ltb Wink

LyraSilvertongue · 01/10/2013 13:32

Lib, doesn't sound like Braxton Hicks. BH aren't painful. You just get a tightening (accompanied by light-headedness in my case) but no pain.

Gaw, I've been getting them for months, well before 16 weeks, but I recognised them from my earlier pregnancies. Apparently uterus stretching can cause them.

karamcleod · 01/10/2013 13:33

I really need to find out what I'm entitled to and I need to go to the pharmacy cause I can get £50 a month for quitting smoking. I saw a heavily pregnant girl standing outside the mat block puffing on a cig yesterday, I wanted to slap her!

Are any of you ladies planning on having a water birth?

Glad all is well with bubba BN I couldn't stop crying when I heard beans hb yesterday, hormones!

Beccadugs · 01/10/2013 13:36

I definitely have one Lyra! Have been getting th since I was a child. Assume I caught them from my mum as a baby. I imagine it is difficult to stop a baby grabbing your face etc.

In terms if the suspect spot. I find that if I touch a coldsore it is a lot more painful than touching a normal spot. Mine also weep and go scabby, but I think I get them really badly!! I missed the tingle with this one, just spotted the feeling as I ate my breakfast!

rescoonetwothree · 01/10/2013 13:51

Bloody hell bn! Glad all is well!!

Kara I think loads of us are going for water birth if I remember correctly can't remember who though? I definitely want to give it a go before I start screaming for all the drugs.

On phone can't remember who said about hypnobirthing - I'm going to give it a go if you lot try it out first and say it's any good hahaha!

faithfulandtruthful · 01/10/2013 13:53

Pram I'm not leaving leaving, just unable to keep up or even skim on the best days, I maybe should have just apologised for becoming vague, out of the loop and a less frequent visitor. As for the sewing, I'm planning to sew (if anything) nice non-tentish maternity wear, not made from a table cloth (ours is oil cloth so practical and wipe clean but not comfy for sure!) but then I've been sewing for years so have made myself a few garments over the years. Will keep you posted if I manage anything beyond boob tube belly band!! Also finding Maternity wear for a person who is petite with shortass legs is impossible, I've already given in to the idea I may have to hack and slash my jeans in order to keep myself not naked in the coming months.

BNMum That sux, so glad they heard the heart beat in the end

Edam I am hopefully doing a Natal Hypno course but they book you in around 25 weeks ish. I guess I'll get my book and CD then.

Lib I have pains lower down when I move suddlenly after being still for a while, like sitting down at dinner time then jumping up to get a drink but not as high as you described. If your worried give your MW a call. Hey can't be as bad as one of the ladies on one of these programs, who was worried she had harmed her baby by dropping a block of cheese on her bump!

sunshinemeg · 01/10/2013 14:01

Me again ladies,
Just had long talk to the midwife, seems I've been doing too much and actually pulled a muscle!! So now I'm banned from all lifting. Glad it's nothing more an little ninja is still fine
Thanks for all the comments guys.

LyraSilvertongue · 01/10/2013 14:06

Sorry Becca, it was Fox who wasn't sure.

x0gawjus0x · 01/10/2013 14:14

Ive had about 15 wees since 7am and gets soo painful if i hold it in!

Had a huge plate of homemade cheesy chilli for lunch ohh i love my days off!

LyraSilvertongue · 01/10/2013 14:18

How did dinner with Carl go the other day, Gawj?

commsgirl · 01/10/2013 14:21

BN what a worry! Glad it all worked out in the end.

F&T please don't stop posting your links and useful advice even if you can't keep up :)

Kara I definitely want to try water before all the drugs. I won't mind if it doesn't work but I'd be disappointed if I couldn't try.

HotCrossPun · 01/10/2013 14:22

kara I'm having a waterbirth. We are hiring a heated pool for 6 weeks, 3 weeks before due date and 3 weeks. Smile

HotCrossPun · 01/10/2013 14:25

*and three weeks after.

karamcleod · 01/10/2013 14:34

I really fancy a waterbirth but I'm a bit worried that all my trips to mw/gp/hospital will bugger that plan up :(
