Well, here's hoping!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Thingymajigs · 22/08/2013 15:38

Yes, I do feel weird telling people. And now most people know I kind of wish they didn't. This is probably because I'm quite a private person and I don't like the feeling of being everyone elses property. It has to happen eventually though. I think people would start to question a massive bump going unexplained.

EeyoreIsh · 22/08/2013 16:03

I'm dreading the return to work and telling people. My boss knows already but no one else does. I work on a huge open plan office so there's no chance of saying anything discreetly. And my bump is certainly at the stage now where people will question if I don't say anything.

I'm feeling really pants today :( I'm covered from head to toe in eczema and I don't have any cream with me. I also feel a bit woozy and dizzy (as well as the usual nausea), like I have a virus. I'm worried it might be a uti, I'm resting now but it feels like a waste of a holiday! If I don't feel better soon I'll go in search of a doctor and practise my French.

My sister had a little boy yesterday morning :) she had to have an emcs but he was born healthy :) I'm looking forward to getting home and meeting him. He's not got a name yet, and they have to stay in holiday for a few days.

I've taken advantage of hotel wifi and ordered lots from new look, including the holy grail of 36" maternity jeans. Any ideas for where I can buy nice long maternity leggings?

16+4 today.

tinypolkadot · 22/08/2013 16:24

I got some lovely long over the bump leggings from Matalan EeyorIsh they are even a big too long (i?m usually a 32? leg) dead comfy. Congrats on your gorgeous new nephew!

bugsy the more I think about it the more annoyed I get. We hadn?t even talked about names yet and dh said it was one of the names he liked too Sad and it?s a dog! It?s not even human! I'm also convinced its a girl, I'll get a surprise if it's a boy!

Ruggle thanks for popping back to see us, I can?t believe the poor service you are getting from that company, it?s disgusting. I hope you?re doing well Flowers

I haven?t felt the need to constantly stuff my face today to keep away nausea ? is this a turning point? I hope so!

ch1134 · 22/08/2013 16:24

I know what you mean with the GCSE grades - it can be so disheartening. I had one boy this year who kept saying 'I'm happy with a C' and refused to work any harder. He doesn't know that we're held to target grades, and from this year will get performance related pay!It won't get any easier!

I've told all friends I've seen about pregnancy but not been into work so no-one there knows. I do think they'll guess but would rather not talk about it with people I'm not close to until after the 20 week scan... Will have to wait and see...

ch1134 · 22/08/2013 16:24

congrats on your little nephew Eeyorish!

Camwombat · 22/08/2013 16:24

We have told a few people but this time around I want to keep it a bit quieter, although the quite distinct bump is going to give it away.
Luckily I don't see many people that often, however, we are moving house next week (to 200miles away) and are having a leaving do. I might get rumbled then.
I am tired most of the time, and am trying to rest in between looking after 2y.o ds and packing.
It took the sonographer 25 minutes to do the nuchal measurement, she was just about to give up when she got it.

misskatamari · 22/08/2013 16:43

I dread the hoops were gonna have to jump through with performance related pay Ch1134 as its just ridiculous. Your performance isn't just the grades the pupils you teach get - and it annoys me that it seems to ignore the fact that at the end of the day THEY are the ones who need to do the work and revision if they are going to pass. It is just gonna mean even more covering out own backs by recording every last intervention/phone call home/booster class etc as evidence of what we have done to try and get kids go wake up and take some responsibility for the fact that it is them who need to sit the exams and actually make an effort with their coursework if the want to pass! Sorry ladies - teacher rant over!!!

Ooooh I've not thought of Matalan for maternity - having a look online they seem to have some nice stuff. Some very comfy looking dresses which look like they're below knee which is great as Im tall and dresses are normally just too short. They do look like they are very "IM PREGNANT LOOK AT MY BUMP" tho lol!

Would you still consider using Poppy thingy? I'd be tempted to think "stuff them" if you love it as its a gorgeous name but I guess it would be weird having a daughter with the same name as their dog. Bloody cheeky woman!!

tinypolkadot · 22/08/2013 16:52

I guess we could still use the name misskat, I just wouldn't like it if she thought she was named after a dog etc. (Here's me calling baby she!) Grin I know, the least she could have done is consult with me or a least call the dog something more doggy!

I got a couple of maternity dresses from Matalan too, and they are very comfy and a good length!

Littleen · 22/08/2013 17:07

Grats on house Harlemwobble!
Also, this UK obsession with carpet floors is gross! Get some proper wood flooring and put some gorgeous rugs on instead :P So much more hygienic, and looks better too!

Can't believe you ironed a shirt whilst in labour, Bearfrills :P that's mental! I also am hormonal - cried when I got to buy some cheddar today. Miss my lovely cheddar so much, but crying of happiness for getting some is a bit ott :P

misskatamari We told my boyfriends brother and family yesterday, and telling his parents in a few days. Other than that, my parents and a few friends know. I just feel a bit awkward telling aswell - don't expect anyone to care much for some reason! Not showing at all yet, so don't feel very pressured to tell anyone!

Littleen · 22/08/2013 17:13

Oh, and go ahead with Poppy anyway! I have a friend who met her now husband years after naming her dog - so now the dog and the husband has the same name. Who cares! :P Just give the dog a nickname, like Poppers or Poplet or something, and gopher it with the baby! :)

marzipanned · 22/08/2013 17:35

Ruggle I agree you should be making a serious complaint - it sounds like you are coping admirably but it's a horrid time for you and they shouldn't be making your life harder Flowers

Eeyoreish congrats on nephew! I have a new cousin as of this morning, same name as our number 1 boys' pick but I think we'll use it anyway if this is a boy.
Another one here who'd still use Poppy despite the dog - indeed I had a friend growing up who always named her dogs after herself :)

Littleen haha DH and I were talking about the wooden v carpet thing last night. We've had a mix in all our homes and, I have to say, in the winter there's something really cosy about a carpeted room that's hard to replicate in a wooden floored room, even with loads of rugs.

I haven't made a pregnancy announcement as such but have told quite a few people as the HG has meant I've had to quit my job, cancel every single social occasion this summer, etc. Everyone has been absolutely amazing and kind.

On the subject of tiredness - today, after 8 hours last night, I slept from 8am-midday, 2-3pm and 4-5pm. That's not normal :(

misskatamari · 22/08/2013 19:02

Ooooh my work jumpers from gap have arrived and are great. Room for bump but not giant sacks like the monstrosity I ordered from next! Phew might actually have clothes to wear at school now!

DawnOfTheDee · 22/08/2013 19:15

Oh god, pretty much everyone knows i'm pregnant! For one thing I really haven't been able to hide it for the past 3-4 weeks at least. Another big baby I reckon.....

I tried that chinese gender prediction chart...according to that i'm having another girl. As our house pretty much rocks me and DH then spent ages creepily trying to work out when friends/family conceived! Of the ones we could do that chart was right 5 times out of 5 Shock Spooky!

My 20 week scan is 10th Sept so not too far away.

Hope all you ladies who are still feeling sicky start feeling better soon x

I've definitely got my energy back - thank god....it's soooo draining feeling that tired all the time Smile

CubanoHabana · 22/08/2013 19:22

I went into school today for results... I'm same as misskatamari my bottom set year 11s did horrendously, nothing over an F but my 2nd set year 10s have done fab, mostly b's, a few c's and 2 d's (from the ones who had said they would just be happy with c's even though targets are b's). Also grade boundaries were higher than normal (I teach maths) and virtually all of the c's and d's were 1 or 2 marks off next grade... Shame I won't be allowed to get most of them remarked!

We have just had our amended pay policy sent over and ours is actually virtually identical to the LEA one, no performance related pay (yet)...

Also told my head today and she screamed and hugged me! Very unexpected! She seemed very happy for me and even happier when she realised I would be back on September!

laura0007 · 22/08/2013 19:23

Yeah everyone knows I'm pregnant too. And I woke up this morning with a baby bump that seems to have appeared from nowhere! I actually look pregnant now Smile
I've just been watching the midwives on BBC iplayer. Trying to get as much insight into labour as I can as I'm still petrified of the pain! I'm going to be one of these pathetic women begging for an epidural at 1cm dilated!!

CubanoHabana · 22/08/2013 19:32

Didn't tell anyone else at work today apart from my hod but I know SLT are going to be discussing it in a meeting today (head asked if I would mind), so by time I go back a lot more people will know!

I just find it hard to just randomly say to people 'I'm pregnant', there is no way the conversation can be led to it easily!

Also went to dentist again today- had last temporary filling done, only 2 needles this time but last one hit nerve so gave me very painful electric shock in mouth! But dentist was happy as he said it meant it would be numb straight away because of it... Out it this way, that was 2pm and I still can't feel anything on that side of face!

DawnOfTheDee · 22/08/2013 19:35

You know what I quite liked labour in a weird way. The contractions hurt (induced back to back labour!) but I found i could cope because you knew each contraction would be over in a minute or so. Besides that it was fun:

drugs on demand
me being the centre of attention
everyone jumped at the slightest hint i wanted/needed anything
we did a big pub quiz for a while with our mw joining in
lovely big fat baby at the end

What's not to like! Grin

DawnOfTheDee · 22/08/2013 19:36

Cubano do what I did and get a sandwich board made! Wink

That or tell someone with a big gob and let them do the work for you....

laura0007 · 22/08/2013 19:39

So does it not hurt when you're not having contractions then?

laura0007 · 22/08/2013 19:39

Sorry that makes me sound like a complete idiot....and stupid! But I have no idea! Surprised I knew how to even make a baby to be fair lol Grin

Littleen · 22/08/2013 19:48

Watched the American version of One Born Every Minute, and they give everyone epidural and tell them to go to sleep. "We'll wake you when it's time to push". They advice to always have epidural. I find it seems very strange, and well, distanced from what is actually happening? I get the need to rest a little bit during labour, but they just seem to go to sleep and not engage at all O.o Very different from UK version!

DawnOfTheDee · 22/08/2013 19:53

There are no stupid questions here laura0007!

No, the inbetweeny bits don't hurt Smile

laura0007 · 22/08/2013 19:58

Ooh good thanks Dawn. Whenever I hear about people being in labour for hours and hours I just couldn't figure out how they coped. But I suppose if its a minute of pain then a minute of no pain that's not so bad. Feeling a bit better about it now thank you Smile

DawnOfTheDee · 22/08/2013 19:59

No probs Smile

Littleen · 22/08/2013 20:02

Does anyone else have cluster headaches, and does labour hurt as bad as that? :P Just heard alot of people saying it's not quite as bad as the headaches, but I am not sure what to think!
