Littlepanda, we have Seren on our girl's names list. Very popular in Wales but not so much in England. We will be team yellow I think, til the end, not 100% decided that we won't find out, so the nursery/ shopping for clothes will all be neutral. I got lovely blankets and soft accessories from John Lewis last time (with wedding gift vouchers!) Smile

Sassy20 · 31/08/2013 17:42

My dh suggested Sienna as a name Littlepanda but I can't stand Sienna Miller so said no to that one!

Littleen · 31/08/2013 18:48

By the way guys, I'm an interior architect so if you need any advice on particular issues, I might be able to help out!

I am still not planning our nursery, as we need to find out what we will get as hand me downs from family and friends :P I know we get a bed of some sorts (the one I was in when I was a baby) but not sure how big it is, so it's all just on hold for the time being! Mind, we won't move until December anyway :)

Hope he had a lovely birthday vix. Next Saturday is ds2's 10th birthday. He's having a sleepover with 5 of his friends. I'll be exhausted but I wanted him to have a great time as I decided that my cut off point for full kids parties was 10 so this will be the last until I start all over again with dc3.
Love the ideas for nursery and space saving solutions. Really like the idea of converting that cabinet as well milkandtwo. We got lost about 5 times in ikea and after a lot of thought we decided that the best way to use the space would be deep shelves high above our own chest of drawers with cute ikea storage boxes and a hanging rail underneath that DP will fit. Super cheap, temporary and fits the space so I'm happy. We've definitely decided to use the ikea cot as a co-sleeper. If anyone wants a co-sleeper but can't afford them/justify the price then google 'DIY co-sleeper ikea cot'. Or something like that. Can't link from phone.

I love the name Sienna, but I have a friend called Sienna so I think of her rather than Miller! Also like Henrietta for Shropshire (Hetty?)

Happy birthday Vix's DS! He made out like a bandit - hopefully to bed a very jolly little boy tonight :)

LittlePanda I was a complete tomboy but absolutely loved my dolls house. (As did my Mum.) And it is a great one for playing with during the winter...

We're in a 2 bedroom house so new baby will be with us to start with then will have to share with DD.

Re decorating before we found out i was pg with DD we had already decorated the spare bedroom into a nice guest room. As I'm a) lazy and b) cheap yes I'm a catch we decided not to redecorate as a nursery.

So DD is in there with 'teal tension' walls and tasteful purple accessories. Tbh I think it's nice and dark but warm iykwim? It's small so DD doesn't really play in there that much...we usually hang out downstairs.

I have FINALLY got some plain black maternity trousers (thank you H&M!). After looking round every shop in Leeds city centre and getting directed to Birstall or White Rose (both outside city centre) we found some in the last shop we looked in in the White Rose. I'm sorry but there must be more of a market for this..?! If I could sew I would totally open my own maternity wear shop in Leeds ok I wouldn't really cos as i said before i'm lazy but i totally think someone else should. Rant over.

Our scan is a week on tuesday. Getting really excited now....can't seriously think about names now though till the scan I know what I'm having.

CubanoHabana · 31/08/2013 20:19

We have just bought our cotbed, matress, wardrobe and chest of drawer / changer today (well mil did - she said she was buying cotbed but then insisted she buy it all!).

It's the Rialto set from m&p
www.mamasandpapas.com/product-rialto-3-piece-set-natural-oak/rari65100/type-i/

However we got it from fenwicks in their baby event for £499 plus £99 for mattress which is reversible, autumn/winter warmth one side and spring/summer the other.

Quite exciting! Just need to clear the nursery now as it is currently our gym room, with treadmill, stepper, crunch bench and weights in there...

It also has wall to ceiling black ikea bookshelf and I was saying we should shift them to the garage (as we will still need somewhere for my books) and put the lighter coloured ikea ones in but oh thinks we could just paint them and put baby books etc on them, so marzipanned I am quite intrigued about the bookshelf you saw...

CubanoHabana · 31/08/2013 20:23

Littlepanda We have the Hemnes day bed in our guest room, absolutely love it, so much so, that I changed the nursery room to be in the gym room rather than guest room as I didn't want to pack away the day bed (honestly love that room so much - duck egg blue and magnolia, with butterfly accessories). It pulls out into a double bed and just looks so smart...

CubanoHabana · 31/08/2013 20:25

We also fell for a silvercross surf all terrain today, gonna look it up for reviews and ask what others on here may have heard about it before considering a deposit on Monday - again in fenwicks baby event, it had 20% off...

marzipanned · 31/08/2013 20:43

Cubano I assume it was a DIY jobby... basically they had put up shelves all the way across the room (it was a teeny room - but you could just put up shelves part way across) and then used ribbon to hold the books in.
This is the closest I can find:

stylewithcents.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/upgraded-rain-gutter-bookshelves.html

But it looked way nicer - much more cheerful (I'm not a fan of the black there) and they had floor to ceiling as well so it was more dramatic. It kind of looked like wallpaper of book covers, which I loved.
I must admit though if I already had shelves in like you have I'd probably just do as your DH suggested but instead of just painting them perhaps you could wallpaper them with funky paper?

We can't put shelves up so I'm planning to go for this: www.preciouslittleone.com/product-information/47/17622/tidy-books-lowercase-bookcase-%28natural%29/?gclid=CIXshti4qLkCFaPHtAodN3AAzg

Not cheap but we've already got all the other furniture except the co-sleeper (my other massive splurge!) oh and some sort of rocking/glider chair... hmm... good job DH is a spendthrift! :)

OP posts:
CubanoHabana · 31/08/2013 20:57

I like the idea of wall papering the shelves! Our bookcase is also floor to ceiling across the whole room and dont think i would have enough baby books and if i was to take one down to read, the gap would really annoy me!

I want a rocker chair too and now mil has bought all furniture, we have extra money to buy one!

LittlePandaBear · 31/08/2013 21:18

Cubano - thanks for suggesting the Hemnes day bed - I've just googled it and it looks really nice - I just need to figure out how much space I actually have in the bedroom as I still want a separate single bed for DD (fussy!). Is it quite heavy/difficult to move position/rooms? I can't work out how the double bed bit folds out, do you put a thin mattress in it which folds out? I guess I would ned to go to an Ikea and look at it properly! Lots to think about, thanks for bringing it to my attention Smile

Milkandtwo · 31/08/2013 21:46

I've got that Hemnes daybed, it's great. We had a different ikea sofa bed which I hated and I wanted to get the daybed. Turned out our neighbour had the Hemnes daybed and were about to buy our exact same sofa bed, so we just swapped! They bought it from Jo Guest (90's glamour model, if anyone remembers!) so it's officially our (Jo) Guest bed. It's very deep to use as a sofa but I've amassed about 15 large cushions to go on it so it actually makes a very comfy nest!

LittlePandaBear - when it's closed it's basically a single bed with 3 sides and you have two mattresses stacked on it. The bit with the three drawers pulls out (just slides forwards) so that doubles the size and then you put one of the mattresses on those slats. Did that make any sense?! It isn't too heavy to pull out into a double bed unless you have stuffed the drawers as much as I have, but you need to dismantle it to move it from room to room and moving it around the room isn't something to plan to do regularly! (all the slats go out of alignment on our anyway)

Also, with Hemnes stuff, a quick update you can do is change the knobs. I personally like the grey ones but I've seen them with some really cute ones which makes it look more personalised/less mass-produced.

That's a mighty long post all about a day bed.

Milkandtwo · 31/08/2013 21:48

also if you like displaying books cover forwards then these are good.

I do NOT work on commission for ikea. But I REALLY want the job to design all the rooms in the showroom.

LittlePandaBear · 31/08/2013 22:06

Thank Milk - yes I think it makes sense! It was the double mattress bit that I didn't get, two singles is much more sensible!

I've just been upstairs and measured different dimensions in the room, and have now found this one Brimnes which may work better as it could fit under the window, whereas the Hemnes one wouldn't. Not quite as pretty as the Hemnes but could do the same job and I could get some lovely cushions to tart it up! And it's cheaper so brownie points from DH.

We're so rock 'n' roll on a Saturday night, talking about day beds for guests Grin Sorry for changing the thread, it should be about cute baby and nursery things! Bear

I'm not sure I've got my priorities right, thinking first of my parents, then DD, then this new baby!

jazzcat28 · 31/08/2013 23:06

Argh just back from a wedding reception for one of DH's work colleagues. He waltzed me round like a prize donkey, patting my stomach and giving a wink to anyone who was vaguely looking in our direction. I have had words in the car on the way home. It wouldn't have been so bad if all his male colleagues hadn't slapped him on the back and said well done my son as if he scored a winning goal or something!

Poppy954 · 01/09/2013 01:54

Just checking in. All the purchases are so exciting! I'm not buying anything for a while yet so it's nice to share the excitement by proxy. Also loving the names discussions. I've got a girl's name sorted but have used the only boys' names I like on my other two.

vix206 · 01/09/2013 07:43

DS had such a lovely birthday. Definitely the first one that he's really understood. He was good as gold a d really grateful for every gift he received Grin I was so proud of him! And we all slept well Smile

Awww Jazz that sounds very annoying!

Lol Champagne - what a charming colleague - cheeky madam!

I've finally done the bra measuring which comes out at a 36G! Which does make sense as i'm normally a 36E and know my boobs are about 3 inches bigger than before I was pregnant. Time to look for some new bras me thinks!
