Well, here's hoping!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Somanychanges · 25/08/2013 14:06

littlest I think around 14/15/16 weeks but that's a guess I know the first was definitely 20wks as I wrote everything down. Second time around I was too busy being sick and chasing after my toddler.

Now at 14 wks third time around I am just starting to feel definite flutters but usually when I am lying still in bed in the morning. When I am active in the day I don't notice anything.

jazzcat thanks I will be stalking my favourite items at gap come December.

Milkandtwo · 25/08/2013 14:14

First timer, 16+2, big bump (the relaxin has really got to work on my intestines, I think they must have doubled in surface area alone!) and no movement felt yet...

Bearfrills · 25/08/2013 14:26

With DS it was 20wks before I felt anything, with DD it was around 16-18wks (can't remember exactly). This time around I'm 14+3 and I'm feeling definite flutters, the first was the day of my scan when I was 12+2. It's not every day and its not all day but is definitely baby.

I had anterior placenta with DS and DD so that likely contributed to feeling movement a bit later, it makes me wonder if I finally have a posterior placenta this time.

Bearfrills · 25/08/2013 14:51

All I'm avoiding is undercooked neat, liver and liver products, and all the other 'headline' stuff from the NHS website.

I don't like hummus so that's not an issue for me but I have bagged sala and just wash it first. I also have runny eggs and I licked the mixing bowl after making DS birthday cake Supermarket eggs are usually very, very low risk as supermarket chickens are vaccinated against salmonella. So fried egg sandwich with a runny yolk is a go in the Frills household. Probably eggs from the allotment would be a different matter and if I was using eggs from my parents' duck I wouldn't have them runny.

My current number one craving is mushy peas drowning in vinegar Blush and pistachio nuts. Not together though.

vix206 · 25/08/2013 15:12

Well I'm negligent then! I certainly don't re-wash bagged salad, have been enjoying my usual runny eggs and I'm not worried in the slightest Wink

With regards to movement - with 1st pregnancy it was 16 weeks and this one I felt first stirrings at 12 weeks. Amazingly early, especially as I have a bit more padding than I did first time round!

EeyoreIsh · 25/08/2013 15:29

I'm really quite relaxed on the food front, probably because I've never had food poisoning... And because I've hardly eaten anything this pregnancy so it's not like I'm eating a steak everyday, sadly Grin

we picked the bed bugs up on holiday Angry it was a lovely 5* highly rated hotel that we had treated ourselves to. Two days in DH starts to come up in bites. He had over 150, and started to react nastily to them so we had to go to emergency docs to get oral steroids. Good thing I have enough French to cope, although I did learn some new words! We've having to boil wash all our clothes and bin quite a few things. The hotel room was teeming with the buggers. Angry Angry Angry it's nice to be home again, and I did get to treat myself to a lovely new handbag Grin

misskatamari · 25/08/2013 15:55

Eeyore that sounds so horrible! Your poor DH! I hope you have done some serious complaining to the hotel.

Oooooh I want mushy peas now!

misskatamari · 25/08/2013 17:13

Just been speaking to my friend who's on baby number 2 and she's told me about this steriliser they have (which is great apparently) and it on offer for about half price on amazon.

Thought some of you might be interested too Smile

steriliser

Cooking chilli for tea as DH's temporary crown has come off so need softish foods - praying i dont have the same reaction to the mince which I had last time I spent ages slaving over a meal containing it!

a good 60 degree wash gets rid of bed bugs, EeyeoreIsh - have had that issue loads of times - the bites take months to heal as well!
Luckily I have only ever had them in bed, never on handbags or anything. Although I think that with stuff you can't clean, you can just freeze them for a day to get rid of the nasties ;) put them in a plastic bag and in the freezer.

Good luck with the chilli, misskatamari!

Thisisfreakingmeout · 25/08/2013 18:20

Making a roast and making a "must have" vs "just want" list to sort out my whizzy brain and give the future grandparents some ideas ( they have asked, I'm not just demanding!)

Ah, bed bugs! Poor you. My parents had the same experience once. You can decontaminate, it sounds like you are getting through it!

misskatamari · 25/08/2013 19:15

Thanks littleen - it was a success luckily!

Good idea thisisfreaking - I need to do something similar (so much still to discover that I'm sure ill struggle tho!)

What are you guys planning of letting baby sleep in at first? Most people seem to do Moses basket is that right? How long does baby stay in one? Or you can get a crib is that right? What's the main difference? Gosh I really do know bloody nothing!!!

vix206 · 25/08/2013 19:31

DS outgrew Moses basket at 3-4 months I think. Then we moved the cot into our room and for a few nights he slept in Moses basket inside cot (helps to get them used to the cot bars) then in the cot.

But during the course of most nights I ended up with him in our bed as we would both fall asleep during night feeds!

littlestgirlguide · 25/08/2013 19:46

DD slept in a Moses basket in our room at first. She was over 9lb at birth though so didnt fit in it long, I moved her into her cot in her own room at 10 weeks when she had dropped the 4am feed and she was absolutely fine, slept through 7pm-dream feed at 11pm-7am. I know I will probably get slammed for not sharing a room for 6 months, and for dream feeding too which is probably on the banned list as well, but hey it worked for us! We also used to sterilise and make up a whole days bottles (water only) in the morning and just add powder and heat when needed... I must be a terrible mother! I had a simple avent microwave steriliser like this: m.tesco.com/mt/www.tesco.com/direct/avent-natural-microwave-steriliser/267-0007.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=267-0007&kpid=267-0007
Which was fab, nothing in it to break and just bung in the dishwasher to clean it. Will be reusing it, but apparantly I've got to buy new bottles as well? Was planning on replacing the trays but any ideas why the bottles wouldn't still be ok?

littlestgirlguide · 25/08/2013 19:49

Replacing the teats I mean!

Bearfrills · 25/08/2013 19:54

We had a Moses basket on a stand on the living room for sleeping in during the day and for bedtime. We used to put baby down in the basket at bedtime but still in the living room, then when we went up to bed at 11ish we used to take the basket into our bedroom with us and put it in the cot so baby was sleeping inside the basket, inside the cot. It seemed a bit cosier than a little newborn in a big cotbed and was easier for blankets/sheets as they could be tucked more securely. DS outgrew his at around 4 months old. DD was quite dainty, hated the big cot and also didn't learn to sit up by herself until almost 7mo so she didn't outgrow hers until then. They were both a little bit jaundiced a few days after birth and the MW used to get me to move the stand/basket so they were lying in front of the window for the sunlight, baskets are handy for that sort of thing :o

I'm looking forward to finding out what's in there as DH won't discuss names until we know. I got the baby clothes out today so I can see what I have that's boy/girl and what I have that's neutral. I have a huge suitcase of boys baby clothes including a beautiful little snowsuit with puppy ears on the front, it's a soft fabric almost like that minky material I kept hugging it and so warm. As for girls things, I have one bag and only as far as 6-9 months because DD is still in a lot of her 9-12 month clothes. So if its a boy I'm sorted, if its a girl then I need to feed DD more cake!

Bearfrills · 25/08/2013 19:56

I'm a fellow dream feeder littlest :o

A feed and then into the Moses basket at 7pm (ish), dream feed around 11pm as I headed to bed, and then straight through to at least 7am. Both of mine were lazy little lumps though and often didn't want the dream feed, DD especially was good at having a sleepy "leave me alone" growl.

vix206 · 25/08/2013 20:07

Since when has dream feeding been bad? Shock I thought it was just common sense.

Oh I do hope my next baby is a better sleeper, DS was up every hour and a half for a feed and continued like that until 7 months when we resorted to leaving him to cry. (I hasten to add he only cried for 30 mins and wasn't distressed, just annoyed that nobody was coming to feed him!!)

littlestgirlguide · 25/08/2013 20:19

I mentioned dream feeding elsewhere on here a few months back and got shot down in flames! Something about force feeding, choking risk, and not winding properly?

marzipanned · 25/08/2013 20:19

somany yes it was me worrying about movement - thanks for the reassurance.

champagne I'm not in maternity clothes either! My 'bump' only exists when I've eaten a massive meal, so I just look a bit fat in my t-shirts.

Thanks for the sleeping advice - I wasn't sure whether to get a sleeping bag but will just get swaddling muslin and blanket (I guess the blankets with holes in them are best - not sure of the proper name?)

I'm planning to get something like this for sleeping at first: www.nctshop.co.uk/Arms-Reach-Universal-Co-Sleeper-Bedside-Cot/productinfo/4367/

Hoping I can find one second hand but if not I don't mind splurging a bit as I figure bub is going to be spending a lot of time there.

Am also definitely eating hummus - chickpeas, olive oil, tahini, garlic - what could possibly be dangerous in there?!!!

OP posts:
vix206 · 25/08/2013 20:29

Marzipanned - the waffly type blankets with holes in have always been known to me as cellular blankets.

vix206 · 25/08/2013 20:30

Oh littlest that's just silly isn't it? There are some argumentative people on mumsnet though, when you stray off the antenatal boards!! Wink

marzipanned · 25/08/2013 20:39

Yep that's what I'm thinking of vix!

laura0007 · 25/08/2013 20:43

My baby will be in a Moses basket until its too big then in its own cot in its own room. There's no room for a cot in my stupid L shaped bedroom!
I'm going on holiday to Mallorca tomorrow, I'm presuming I need to take my pregnancy notes. Will they be ok in my suitcase or do they need to be in my hand luggage?

misskatamari · 25/08/2013 21:07

Awww marzipanned that bedcot looks lovely! How long would a baby stay in that for any idea?

And what is dream feeding? It sounds like it would be lovely from the name Smile

Gosh I really need to get my head round what kinds stuff I need and general prices etc as its the baby and toddler show soon so if I have more of clue I might be able to get some bargains (and not just become overwhelmed/buy loads of shite I don't need!)
