Like lots of others I found bf tricky. In all honesty, although dd was 3 weeks early and born via crash section, I found the first few weeks fine. I had help from midwives in the hospital (although I remember through my druggy haze one really manhandling my boob to get the latch correct Shock) and had it sorted by day 3. Dd was tiny (5lb 7oz) but was putting weight on nicely.

However, my section wound then got infected, and the antibiotics I was on for over a month went into my milk, and it was like dd just hated the taste - she refused to drink, was losing weight and we were both utterly miserable. My dp came in after work one day to find me and dd on the sofa trying to feed, both hysterical, and promptly went back out and bought formula and bottles.

I felt shit giving up, but actually by that point just seeing her drink and be full and happy so good!

I'm going to try bf again this time, and hope for no infections so I can carry on past 12 weeks. Fingers crossed! However, ff was totally fine and I wouldn't hesitate to use formula again if bf isn't working. Healthy and happy baby (and mum) is much more important Smile

I had an emcs with ds at 36 weeks and had no real milk for a week so they wouldn't release us from hospital until I'd topped him up with formula as he was dehydrated. I really wanted to bf though and despite very sore red nipples I got the midwives to help me at every feed and when I got home the support counsellor came out and we got there in the end. After two weeks I stopped the formula top ups and feeding became so easy. Helped massively by the fact my milk had finally come in. I can say it was worth the struggle. I loved feeding him. I had mastitis three times and that's why I gave up but I did do it for 5 months so thought that was a good start for him. I'll definitely try and bf this little one too. Also I expressed a bottle a day so DH could do one feed which he really enjoyed too. I'd say if you wanted to do it then just persevere, it will probably hurt at first but after that it will be the easiest and most natural thing. I could do the hoovering, answer the door, eat basically do anything with ds feeding away! It's also a magic cure for whenever they are crying, a boob would always calm ds Grin

If anyone is near west london and was thinking of using reusable nappies there's a thread in chat where the op is offering some, it is titled "free to a good home" x

Natalieand · 21/07/2013 21:36

Feeling extremely sorry for myself this eve, spent the entire day moving furniture hoovering everything washing all blessing all by my self I'm not in agony in my back bump feet and pelvis and I have my GTT in the morning so in 10 minutes time I can no longer drink and the thought of it alone is making me as thirsty as anything as its such a humid night! If all that money and hard work does not rid the house and cat of fleas I may have a breakdown lol I've cried about 5 times today about it all. But in fairness to dh he did give me a back massage this afternoon when he got home

Sorry for a selfish post just wanted too let it all out,

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the sun :-) xxxx

claphammama · 21/07/2013 21:40

No wonder you stopped BF textbook. I think I would do the same considering the antibiotics and the stress you both experienced. I'm a great believer in breastfeeding but don't believe you should stick to it at all costs. Sometimes you just need to weigh in pros and cons. Your experience sounds really stressful and you tried so hard to make it work!
char1eston have you found your DP? :-)

I also love Frasier! My favourite sitcom. Can't believe you know him flyer! Is he anything like his character or totally different? I used to have Paramount Comedy when I was on maternity leave with DS and was always putting it on when I was feeding. Unfortunately, I think I've seen all episodes by now... I know nothing about him though and his traumatic life - need to read up.

So we took DS for his first proper dim sum lunch today. He loved it. And then we braved Oxford Street with millions of tourists... as we needed to change the moses basket stand in Mothercare and stock up on more baby stuff in John Lewis. Bought a simple bath support, BF pillow, activity matt, changing matt and lots of little bits. My nesting instincts are satisfied for now!

claphammama · 21/07/2013 21:42

crosspost - sorry you had such a tough day Natalie. Hope the massage helped and you have a restful night. good luck with your GTT tomorrow! x

textbook · 21/07/2013 21:49

It was really stressful clapham, but while it worked it was amazing, which is why I definitely want to try again with dd2 Smile

natalie how bloody awful - and with your GTT tomorrow. I hope it all goes well and that you can have a good rest tomorrow x

LostMySocks · 21/07/2013 22:07

Natalie. I've just moved to a new area and they've said that I should have a GTT (diff area diff policies). However I asked the midwife about no drinking as it's been so hot and SE said water was fine. Mind you maybe I should check that she was right when he told me this

Natalieand · 21/07/2013 22:11

I don't actually like water (I no that sounds mad) lol so I just ate an ice cube too wet my mouth a bit lol

Flyer747 · 21/07/2013 22:34

Oh Nat I hope you have gotten rid of those pesky little creatures.

I have no clue about breast feeding I'm just hoping I will be able too, will try my best and see what happens, yikes!

Clapham, he is a lovely bloke kelsey, very well mannered and a good sense of humour in RL. He is very creative and poetic, at their wedding he wrote a piece about his love for my friend which was read out and even made dp cry, shock horror! The grand piano from the show is in their NYC home, he plays it beautifully and is a very good singer too. I really like him, I'm always made to feel very welcome in their home. And he is a very hands on father most importantly Smile

Thank goodness it is cool tonight.

DP called me tonight from Ibiza he was telling me how he cannot wait to be a dad and that he loves the baby already....He is away on a stag do with a bunch of Marines (big butch blokes) who are mostly fathers too and they have been telling him fatherhood is the best thing ever, I think it's given him a bit of a reality check....I'm looking forward too seeing him on his return tomorrow.

Long Post....

Natalie how did you get on with flea treatment this morning? I know fleas really are a pest and I'm sure all your hard work will help. Can I ask what product you use on your car, I used to be a vet nurse so am familiar with lots of them. Some definitely work better than others. Good luck for your GTT test tmrw.

claphammama · 21/07/2013 22:58

this is so sweet flyer :-) I bet you won't recognise him once the baby is born! xxx

Flyer747 · 21/07/2013 23:12

I think you may be right clapham....He also texted saying "I'm going to be the best dad ever" bless him....how are you ladies with anterior placentas doing? I'm 28 weeks today and baby is going wild, much stronger movements the past 3-4 days.

PseudoBadger · 22/07/2013 07:21

Decided I'm going to the Day Unit to get monitored today as I'm still not that happy with the regularity/strength/amount of movement. Just want to put my mind at ease.
Triage said to just turn up at nine, I bet it's going to be so busy...

Tarlia · 22/07/2013 07:35

flyer that's sweet :)

badger hope all goes well and it's not to busy.

Nat good luck with your GTT today. Hope those nasty little pests have stopped biting you and died.

socks here they say you can have up to two small cups of water.

pinkbuttons · 22/07/2013 07:51

Thats lovely flyer the only benefit of my DH going on a night out are thatbhe gets very soppy and lovely when drunk and never normalpy speaks about his emotions.
Hope all is ok today pseudo sounds sensible if your still unsure just hope its not too busy for you.

and good luck with your gtt today natalie, sorry you ended up having such a manic day yesterday, hope everythings sorted and you manage to get some rest today.
Think Im also going to call drs today think might have another uti, and may be why ive been getting such strong braxton hicks apparently. as well as pain in my lower tummy now.
Hope everyone has a good Monday, am quite excited at the prospect of thunderstorms later today Smile

PseudoBadger · 22/07/2013 07:54

Thank you :)
We've already had thunder and rain this morning (north London)

favellio · 22/07/2013 07:55

Morning ladies, just seen on the news that Kate has gone into labour. Looks like its royal baby day Grin
Ordinarily I wouldn't be fussed but the only boys name me and DH can agree on is George, and I'm hoping she doesn't get there first lol

Tarlia · 22/07/2013 07:58

I was just about to post the same Favellio :) We will be put out of name stealing misery over the next few days. That is of course if she doesn't do what the Danish royal family did and not release names for months later on the day of the christening!! Fingers crossed!

Soupqueen · 22/07/2013 08:37

pseudo, hope everything is ok. My pregnancy app told me that this is the time when the amniotic fluid is at its maximum so the baby has lots of room - hope that's all it is.

I feel so sorry for Kate, imagine having the world camped outside and speculating what stage of labour you might be in. Hope it's not too lengthy a labour for her.

Natalieand · 22/07/2013 08:40

I was just about to post the same tarlia and favellio lol

Thanks for the support ladies my back is still extremely painful this morning but my feet aren't hurting so its a start lol. Will take a few days I guess before we no if the fleas have gone, I didn't actually see any fleas but the cat deffo has them and I got a few bites on my arm so we have to assume the house is covered in them

ellie we used a spray called 'johnsons 4fleas house spray' thoroughly hoovered then sprayed left it a whole then re hoovered all the nooks and crannies washed all bedding etc and the cat has had a tablet one per day for 3 days apparently? And then some drops on the back of her neck. As well as a warm bath before I done the drops so hopefully everything will be resolved, makes me sound so skanky having fleas doesn't it? But apparently common in this heat?

Picnic in the park this afternoon with my friends from one of the toddler groups I go to so looking forward to that and BBQ tonight which means no cooking for me!

Hope all goes well at the assessment unit pseudo and they can reassure you :-). X and hope u manage to get sorted at the docs too pink
Xx

PseudoBadger · 22/07/2013 08:42

Thank you Soup, I'm on the way on the bus now (couldn't face a muggy tube!)
I feel uneasy and didn't want to write it off as anterior placenta/small baby etc, she is moving but not much and no real strong movements.

PseudoBadger · 22/07/2013 08:48

Thank you Nat, sorry you had a rubbish day yesterday x

PseudoBadger · 22/07/2013 08:54

I'm also due my growth scan this week but it's not for another 8 days so am a bit worried about that too. I'm just a hot bed of worry :o

On a nicer note my best friend's sister has just had a little girl, Amber. She is 44 and had several unsuccessful rounds of ivf and had given up when the last one didn't work. She then found out she was pregnant naturally! I'm so pleased for her.
