Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mooster1709 · 25/06/2013 10:23

poor you andadietcoke - lots of paracetamol, and for your nose might be worth trying some saline spray. The calpol baby one is safe, and works a bit to unblock everything. Not a patch on lemsip, obviously, but better than nothing.

ION, I have just eaten my lunch. It's not even 11. I will regret it at 4pm...

Wincher · 25/06/2013 10:29

Poor you, dietcoke - I have a very mild cold at the mo and that's bad enough.

Braxton Hicks contractions have started up with a vengeance in the last few days for me - anyone else? I remember they started at about this stage last time too. It's mainly when I've been walking for a while/generally overdoing it. Not comfortable.

weebarra · 25/06/2013 10:30

Just had our second card
iac scan - all good! MW said it looks like a big chunky baby, even happier I'm having a section now.
DH thinks we can stop thinking about girl names too as he thinks he saw a willy!

frogchops · 25/06/2013 10:36

Sure it wasn't cord weebarra? I'm stressing incase the two sonographers that confirmed our boy got it wrong although I'm sure they didnt.
Felt I must post as I got a little bit Smile smug that I've just booked a meeting in for September that I'll have to delegate to someone else. Mwahaha.
Bought me righ back down to earth when someone said 'oh that's only 10 weeks away' Blush gulp.
Anyway I've booked this afternoon off and its sunny. Hoorah.

Mooster1709 · 25/06/2013 13:08

I'm having my first diet coke since I found out I was preggo. I had forgotten the wonder. Bit like booze though, none is probably easier than some...

anyone else getting sort of impatient now? I'm finding it really hard to concentrate at work and just generally have that unsettled feeling like I'm permanently waiting for something.

EmmaDee · 25/06/2013 13:19

dietcoke I hope you feel better soon, sounds like a nightmare Flowers.

Mooster I dont feel impatient, but I am getting a bit bored of it now, the novelty has wore off and I am fed up being good! I know that sounds selfish but I dont mean it to be! I am just fed up with the comments from well meaning friends and randoms.

I was in the pet shop on saturday and a kid said to her mum wow look at the size of that womans tummy, and the mother said yes dear isnt it huge!!! She didnt even explain that I was pregnant, not just suffering from serious beer belly craziness!!!

Craziness is another thing that is begining to grate! I have been so overly emotional and feeling a bit down over the last few weeks, cant wait til my hormones are back to normal, though a girl in work told me that they'll be balls from now on! Please tell me this isnt true!

Other than that roll on september!

Readytosettle · 25/06/2013 14:11

I've had enough of pregnancy...fed up of being big, fed up of struggling to get out of bed/off the sofa, fed up of having to watch what I eat/drink, fed up of people asking me how many weeks I've got left....I could go on...

RunningBear78 · 25/06/2013 14:27

Great article Jammy and thanks for the cry kips Smile

Had my 28 week appt today, all good. Ritual blood letting etc. Finally got measured and despite having not put on any weight for a few weeks and bump not obviously growing I'm 27cm so right where I should be - hurrah! Had a rummage with the lovely mw so know what the top of the uterus feels like - like general inners but much harder. Also think we felt the little ones head, then he wriggled so he clearly didn't like being poked!

Our mw is preggers and due about the same time, and was all excited about her 4d scan - she showed me the pic of her baby and definately would recommend it. Although I know dietcoke was a bit scared by hers!

For those with GD, I know I keep banging on about it, but please don't worry and stress too much about it. It also shouldn't affect your plans for birth. Those with Type 1 & 2 diabetes have slightly more monitoring, but that kind of diabetes is totally different to GD. Some people get GD picked up if you had undiagnosed Type 1 or 2, then things can be different, but if this is purely GD you can get on top of it with diet and a bit of exercise. Good luck though.

Flowers for dietcoke hope you are feeling better and well looked after

jennimoo · 25/06/2013 14:36

Mooster - I think I'm ready to get pregnancy over with now too, and also feel like I'm waiting. On the other hand in a little stressed that bags aren't packed, cot and carseat are still in loft, I haven't sorted out clothes... I am 31+1 though, and 2 weeks today I finish work!

EmmaDee · 25/06/2013 15:14

ooh Im so glad to hear other people are fed up with this pregncy makarky too. Im only 27 weeks tomorrow and Im not that massive yet, but I just cant be bothered with it any more! Though I havent organised anything yet!

I am begining to panic about my measurements though as I was under at my 25 week appointment and I dont feel like ive grown at all. Pregnancy is just one worry after another! Thats another think Im fed up with!

jennimoo · 25/06/2013 15:35

Emma - I don't think that the rate the bump seems to be growing wil necessarily affect the measurement: I'm massive all over but once laid down the MW said I measured just right!

I'm afraid the birth will really only be the start of your worrying though!

fl0b0t · 25/06/2013 15:39

I'm not fed up yet (but probably not far off it!)
Poor dietcoke - feeling ill must be no fun at our size!
Dorita heartburn and I are on-off friends. I've tried all the flavours of gaviscon and the only one I can stomach are the peppermint tablets. You cna suck them gently for up to 35 mins and they really really do work. Everything else gaviscon is just gross!!

Emotional in lots of weird ways (thanks all for reassurance re:relationship!)- my most amazing skill right now is not appreciating the tipping point between hysterical laughter and hysterical crying. Happened twice now, Sunday night was best though. I had a bit of a fart. I laughed a bit, which made me fart even more. I then laughed hysterically, and then I was sobbing! WTF@?!

Mooster1709 · 25/06/2013 15:49

No, no, jenni, it's not at all like I have anything sorted or am ready for the baby to arrive! No nursery, nowhere for it to sleep etc. But I feel a bit like I'm also waiting for the right time to sort all of that stuff out IYSWIM. I'm nearly 31 weeks, but it still seems a bit soon. Also feel like should finish all the building/decorating work in the house before starting on the baby planning stuff, and DH seems to think we can do all baby related organisation in August. I'm due at very end of Aug, so maybe he's right, but I want to do it all NOW.

Think maybe mental.

fl0b0t · 25/06/2013 15:49

I LOVE the article but....I'm not sure I can put my finger on it. She thought breast feeding would be "easy", NCT taught her "nothing", the thought of her husband "swanning off to work"...... the entire section of "G" proves that if she'd bothered to read a book or two she might not be in the state she's in!

JammyTummy · 25/06/2013 16:04

So, went to our first baby class today! The midwife taking it was the same mega nippy woman I had for my last appointment. There were no ground breaking revelations there and nothing you wouldn't know if you've read a preggo book/ MN/ google. However, two things she said, which I've never heard anyone else say before which I want to get to the bottom of:

  1. She reckons you don't get Braxton Hicks until literally a week or two pre baby, and if you do there's something not quite right with you. Any tightening/ cramping you get otherwise is just your general muscles.
  2. She says that having a bath is not recommended in the early stages of labour as it can relax you too much?! Any thoughts? I've read in several books that having a warm bath is a really good idea!

I also really don't like her attitude to epidurals. She is obviously of the natural birth all the way camp (which I am completely ok with) but I feel like she shouldn't be so dismissive of it, as a midwife, and encourage everyone to do what feels right for them as opposed to making it out an unnecessary frivolity. Personally I would prefer to not have one if I can manage without, for various reasons, but it makes me super grumpy to get pushed into things.

flo I literally don't know how you eat those tablets! I can't face anything other than liquid Gaviscon. I love the way they literally pretend its as tasty as a fruit smoothie in the adverts... Lies! Lies!

dietcoke I hope you feel better soon! Try to sleep through it as much as poss!

JammyTummy · 25/06/2013 16:05

Ha! I just figured out what IYSWIM means!

jennimoo · 25/06/2013 16:48

Jammy - I think that MW may be a little inaccurate on those points! I understand that sometimes a bath (or birthing pool) can slow things down but not always!

It seems MWs, like health visitors, often make up their own mind about stuff and then tell it to you as fact, which makes me very cross!

andadietcoke · 25/06/2013 16:58

So, ended up being admitted to the delivery suite for dehydration and observation. Just been discharged and everything is fine - blood tests etc are normal, and although my blood pressure is still highish, it's not enough to warrant medication. Just need to keep some fluids down so that I don't get dehydrated again now.

For info - olbas oil is fine according to the labour midwife, who also recommended slathering Vicks on the soles of your feet and then putting socks on Grin

EmmaDee · 25/06/2013 17:30

Yeah my friend is a midwife and she suggested the vicks on feet trick to my other friend when her son wasnt well. Works a treat!! But seems to be the best kept secret!

Geesescareme · 25/06/2013 17:53

Just seen a few bargains on the Asda George sale online. Have picked up these slippers for my hospital bag as didn't want to spend a fortune and are nice slip-on ones (thought I wouldn't be able to bend down to put on ones with backs on!)

There are some lush baby girl clothes reduced but not much for boys, mostly quite summery. Someone having a girl HAS to buy this just because I can't! ;)

frogchops · 25/06/2013 18:14

I don't think I can ever class heartburn and I as ever being friends....I've had it for weeks now and it REALLY hurts. First thing when I wake up, morning, noon, night and aaaall night. I hate it. Gaviscon Is literally the work of the devil and makes me foam at the mouth with revolting milky vomit. I'm considering buying shares in the rennie company though, as I've come to eat them like smarties. Grim.
Am tired, my eyes are like pandas, I feel frumpy, heavy, and like I need a hoist to manoeuvre around the sofa/bed, when I get in the car I can't reach to shut the damn door, putting socks on is an actual workout and when I drop something it pretty much had to stay there.
So as much as I love watching my boy wriggle....I'm a liiiittle bit fed up at only ONLY 28 weeks. Confused

badguider · 25/06/2013 18:47

I've had heartburn on and off ever since I stopped feeling nauseous. It seems worst when I'm overtired so when it gets bad I try to slow down and take it easy for a few days. I've got it just now and also am pretty tired today so going to try for a few early nights and a relaxing weekend.

I am still very fortunate health-wise and still pretty mobile thankfully, at 29+5 I am having broken sleep and sporadic heartburn but that's all.

dietcoke hope you feel better soon.. I had a cold at about 15 weeks that totally floored me for weeks and I am really really hoping to get through to the end without another.

I am not too bad with impatience, possibly because I haven't done much prep yet. I have been trying to enjoy going out and about a lot in May and June while still mobile and have later in July and August set aside for sorting the house and buying babygrows and vests and things when I'm too big for much activity.
I've also got quite a bit of work to do in the next two months so the end of August actually seems to be creeping up on me a bit too quickly in some ways!

Dorita75 · 25/06/2013 19:13

Thanks for the gaviscon tip flobot Thought I?d try the tablets first but then saw jammy and frogchops replies!! Will see how it goes...

Hope you feel better soon dietcoke Am I being stupid about the vicks on soles of feet, is this supposed to help with the cold????

Readytosettle · 25/06/2013 19:22

That made me giggle frog...clearly it's a phase!

Re: heartburn, I'm getting through bottles of the stuff...I find peppermint is ok....when I'm not necking gaviscon I'm eating ice lollies (it works, and I love them!). I can definitely advise against whiskey, tried it once as it's always been a sure fire pain reliever in the past, never again...it just increases the burn!!

Readytosettle · 25/06/2013 19:25

Gaviscon tablets are grim! But I only tried strawberry...
