Lancslass83 Could be a very bad first migraine...they can cause those and come on in pregnancy. I was hospitalised with one so bad I was falling over, with DD.

Didn't know there was someone else in Lancs!

Dinky Bah to the partners...hope you enjoyed it!

Cheese OFSTED? Urgh!!!

Slouching Hurrah for leave!

Me...been approved for general for caesarean, without actually being approved for the caesarean... LO is protesting by turning head up!

34+4 today....

shelley72 · 14/06/2013 03:23

Anyone else awake or is it just me? Dd fidgeting and has her knees in my back, baby wriggling in there and dh blissfully asleep. Will probably manage to get back to sleep just as ds wakes up! Have scan and consultant later this morning so that's on my mind a bit I suppose.

hope all those going on maternity leave today are really spoilt and enjoy the break. it will be amazing how quickly you adjust to being off Smile

Cheeseandbread · 14/06/2013 03:55

Hi Shelly I'm awake... I thought I'd pop on. I've got a zillion things going through my head that need to be covered today at work... Hope your scan goes well later today.

Thanks Dinky sorry your partners are being insensitive by not telling anyone about you leaving.

MrsRoss I hope you enjoy your leave day today and thanks for the support too.

BadMissM I know!!! Hope you are ok about Caesarian decision.

I'll be sad to leave the kids today- bet I'll be blubbing in assembly in a few hours time... I've felt on the edge of tears over the past few days (for various reasons) but have managed to hold it in I knew if I started I wouldn't stop

34+6

Cheeseandbread · 14/06/2013 04:00

Bean has hiccups again Smile now I know what it is I enjoy them... Can't wait to see her little face...

VinegarDrinker · 14/06/2013 04:22

Just checking into the 4am club again...

Good luck and hooray for everyone starting leave.

I'm a bit Jekyll and Hyde at the moment about the pregnancy, in the daytime I am still mostly coping fine, managing to get around OK and can imagine going for another 4 weeks if necessary. Then overnight all the symptoms hit (heartburn, back pain, hip pain, insomnia, nausea) and I just want baby out now!

Worked out that despite stopping work I'm still averaging about 5 miles a day on the bike, just wittering locally, dropping DS at nursery etc. Not bad going for 37+ weeks, I reckon. Seem to be surviving on crisps and ice cream to compensate though! My appetite for 'proper meals' has all but disappeared.

Right, better try and get back to sleep.

37+3

Cheeseandbread · 14/06/2013 04:39

I'm still awake... Well done on the cycling Vinegar

Just remembered I need to wrap a pressie in the morning for my wonderful TA. Can't stop thinking about that now... I had DH potting up plants for all my kids last night- he us a star!

Hope I get more sleep when on mat leave as less to stress over... Though as more room in my mind I will probably make up more worries...

I watched secret life of cats last night- our cat was going mental at the T.V.. So funny!

Silver15 · 14/06/2013 04:56

Hello, I have not posted in ages but could not resist the 4am club. Been lurking though.
Congs to our arrivals and hooray to those on mat leave. Still have 2 weeks of work left. It's a struggle for me in the mornings as I'm so tired. It's my DC3 and I dont remember it being too hard but anyway all pregs are different.

Will now catch up with posts.

shelley72 · 14/06/2013 05:23

didnt manage to get back to sleep at all, but looked at some handbags changing bags online and managed to finish the food shopping order off so not all wasted hours. now snuggled up watching HH with DS (who also wakes up too flippin early)

vinegar i too dont have an appetite for meals at all but eating far too much ice cream for my own good, apparently it can help breech babies turn (so a MW said) so thats my excuse Grin. supposed to be going out for a meal with DH tonight but really dont know what i want to eat. anyone have any suggestions?

silver i have been far more tired this time round (DC3 for me too). i put it down to my age and having two exhausting small people to run about after.

still fretting about the scan and no doubt i will be shattered and over emotional by the time i get to see the consultant. i just want to sleep before the baby comes!

TotallyEggFlipped · 14/06/2013 05:50

Good luck today, shelley!

I resisted checking in & managed to get back to sleep when I woke at 3, but I've been awake again since 5, so I've given up on the hope of more sleep. I had a real beached whale moment when I tried to get out of bed to pee & I'm really not that big!

Hope all of you that finish work today have good last days.

dinkystinky · 14/06/2013 06:28

Good luck for your scan and appointment today Shelley - hopefully you'll have a decision on what's happening re birth today.

Cheese - such a lovely idea to give plants to your kids! Hope your last day goes well and you get done everything you need to

Vinegar - sometimes when you keep super active during the day, its at night when you finally rest that your body finally lets you know what its feeling. Not much I can suggest other than trying a nap during the day if you can (I'm terrible at napping during the day so sympathise if you can't). I have more appetite earlier in the day so try to get good breakfast and lunch in then just graze in the evening. Think may go for sushi - the ultimate small bites food - to celebrate last day at work tonight.

Silver - nice to see you on.Keep reminding yourself the end is in sight!

Badmissm - yay for cooperative anaesthetist and baby :-)

shelley72 · 14/06/2013 07:06

Thanks everyone. Will pop on later to let you know how it went. Still not entirely sure what the best outcome would be!

Hope you all enjoy your last day at work.

notprincesskate · 14/06/2013 07:46

Morning all, no 4am club for today yay, but did have several 'whale' moments overnight whilst trying to either turn over in bed or get up for a wee, I'm going to blame the spd, and not the extra calories I consumed before the GD kicked in Wink.
cheek I agree with getting your leg check out especially if your calf gets swollen, red or hot, due to dvt risk, but for some reassurance I had one swollen foot/ankle/lower leg from 16 weeks with DD, and no dvt for me, I used to wear flight socks to help, and it didn't fully resolve till about 6 weeks post birth.
photographer you mentioned delayed cord clamping and not needing vit k, is this the case, I should probably do some research, as the obs has suggested that I have delayed cord clamping, but didn't mention that it might negate the need for vit k.
I'm waiting for labour this week, following someone hitting my car earlier in the week, luckily no damage to me, and car currently being fixed in garage, collapse of the sale of our house, cue major panic re money saved for maternity pay will now be paying mortgage on empty property, so the only third stressful thing could be having this baby this week Grin
Hope everyone finishing work today has a enjoyable day, with a least some cake involved.

dinkystinky · 14/06/2013 07:59

Npk - I don't think delayed cord clamping totally negates the risk the vit k jab is meant to address - it is merely helpful to the health of the baby generally in that the baby gets the full supply of oxygenated blood from the placenta. So sorry you have had a true shocker of a week (and glad you and baby are OK post prang) - let's hope the month improves from here on in for you!

princessllama · 14/06/2013 08:15

Morning all. Enjoy your last day cheese, slouching and dinky.what a nightmare re ofsted cheese, just what you were dreading! Hope they like the maternity muffins dinky- they should, lucky people! Slouching, mat leave is heaven if you dont have any kids already, if nothing else, enjoy every pee on your own and every long bath.
Lancs, hope you get some answers on funny symptoms. As badmiss said, could easily be migraine instead of stroke, 2 women i know have had this. Fingers crossed.
Paolo, hope you and the girls are doing ok.
Shiv, if you're on here i hope the consultant meeting went more positively than you thought.
Humphrey is still sedated, intubated and on morphine. He has had 2 sets of surfactant now. There was some improvement by the end of yesterday but when went to check on him at 5am they had tried to reduce his pressures and oxygen and he hadnt coped. They were talking about possible blood transfusion because he's had so much blood taken. I am aching to hold him in my arms. Dh and i keep getting terrible jealousy hearing other newborns and seeing other parents holding their babies in nicu. One lovely thing is they let me take his top sheet to sleep with so it would smell of me and now it's back on him and i have his other one- think it may have helped me sleep after 5.
They are looking at tuesday for him coming home maybe.

Top tip post baby- femme pads from nct website. They go in fridge or freezer then you put in your knickers- big relief! Also loads of water and fibre from moment baby is born to make going to loo more easy after.

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 14/06/2013 08:25

I second the femme pads - got them from mother care last time I think. Also valley cushion (can hire online) if lots of stitches - and arnica and lots of dates/prunes/dried apricots.

Princess llama - sorry to hear Humphrey is still sedated and intubated and on morphine, and so sorry you're going through such a worrying time. He is a lovely size though so as soon as he starts improving you'll hopefully see him improve in leaps and bounds. Hugs to you and dh and your little man - you're all in my prayers and thoughts. I hope the blood transfusion does the trick and helps Humphrey turn the corner so you can get those long awaited cuddles.

CitizenOscar · 14/06/2013 08:43

Wasn't up at 4am but DS1 was awake 12-2ish and then fell asleep horizontally across the top of our bed so I'm not exactly well rested! Think he's trying to break me before DS2 arrives Wink

Thankfully he's at nursery today so will try to rest a bit but need to get prepared for his birthday party on Sunday.

Apparently baby's head is 1/5 engaged which explains why it's so uncomfortable to walk at the mo!

Sending extra special best wishes to Humphrey and hope he has a a good day today. Welled up a bit reading about sleeping with his top sheet, so goodness knows how you're keeping it together! X

VinegarDrinker · 14/06/2013 09:27

Re vit k I haven't heard anything about delayed cord clamping negating the need for vitamin K, either. It tends to lead to an increase in haemoglobin for the baby but no difference in blood clotting afaik.

Lots of strong breathing vibes for Humphrey and still thinking of Oliver. And how is Ezekiel ellie?

Seriously crap week you are having npk hope it picks up!

SlouchingPanda · 14/06/2013 09:28

No 4am club for me this morning... hurrah!

Enjoy your last days, Dinky, Cheese and Phie... I am in bed recovering from the horrendousness of yesterday and feel a bit odd that my leave has started already. Still, I hate goodbyes or any sort of fuss so perhaps it's for the best!

I have written myself a list of stuff to do - it is surprisingly long and ranges from the mundane (put some washing on) to the life changing (pick baby names!). Rule number one for maternity leave is not to turn the TV on... I do not want to be a slave to Jeremy Kyle and Homes under the Hammer!

I am loving the thought of ice-cream helping to turn a breech baby, although I'm not sure how scientificly robust it is! Presumably the baby doesn't like cold things near its head and flips around to avoid it. A quick google also suggested putting frozen peas on the top of your bump but the ice-cream diet sounds way better! Sadly, BadMissM this now means ice-cream is off the menu, as if your baby stays in that position, a CS is pretty much guaranteed.

Thoughts to Oliver, Humphrey and Ezekiel, and Happy Friday everyone!

36+1. Yikes!

MarieKL · 14/06/2013 10:08

Grr just made a list of everyone I wanted to reply too, went to the toilet and now the list has entirely disappeared!

Princesslima congrats on the birth of Humphrey. I love the name. Sorry to hear he's still poorly but Tuesday isn't too far away, though I realise it must feel like forever for you.

Hooray for all those starting mat leave after today, but boo to Ofstead and inconsiderate work partners. Slouching, I hope you settle into mat leave and get through your list!

Notprincesskate, what an awlful week. I hope you have a much better weekend.

My sister has been staying all week with her little one, left yesterday and tonight my friend is staying over with her two DC and then on Monday my mum 's up for the week! I'm shattered so good luck to whoever it is hosting the 30 plus family event this weekend, and I hope the 4am club members manage to catch up on some sleep!

paolocee · 14/06/2013 10:19

Hey dinky.

The girls are fine. We've been here nearly two weeks so far. Likely to be here another 8-12 days. Caitlin sometimes forgets to breathe (she's inherited her dad's smarts), so is on medication for that. She also has her mother's temper. Leila is very chilled out but one of the most aggressive breast-feeders the nurses have seen here.

Which leads me to a few questions about the difference between UK and Swedish post-natal care. One of our friends in deepest Essex tells us that when she had premature twins, she would express milk at home before delivering it to the ward. She wasn't encouraged to stay and breastfeed.

Here, we're given a room in the family section, and Donna is encouraged to breastfeed at each three hourly-feed. Later today we're going to take the girls into our room. They'll spend the night back in neo-natal (a ten second stroll from our room) before being delivered back to us in the morning.

Is there anything like this in the UK? My brother is also expecting twins (in six months, the copycat) and is getting worried that he won't receive the same kind of care that we do here. I'd like to allay his fears.

SundaySunshine · 14/06/2013 10:19

lancslass I get very similar symptoms with migraines, and not necessarily with a headache, holes in vision, wiggly lines, numb fingers, loss/confusion of vocabulary. All pretty scary stuff, hope you get some answers today and its not anything too sinister.

Congrats everyone on last day of work today, enjoy the relative quite before the storm.

Good news badmiss re cs, sounds like you're nearly there, what a battle you've had though!

Sorry to hear Humphrey is still poorly, it must be so draining for you. Are you still at the hospital yourself princess? Hope you do get to take him home on Tuesday.

Good to hear from paolo I was wondering how you were getting on? Hope Donna has recovered from the PE and the babes are doing fine.

I finally got round to having my whopping cough injection the other day and am still feeling a bit ropey as a consequence. I could have joined the 4am club last night (and the 2am , 3am, 5am club) but couldn't quite manage to go and get the iPod from the sitting room, will have to remember to take it to bed with me Smile

Hope you all have a good day

SundaySunshine · 14/06/2013 10:25

X post with paolo! Nice to see you're being looked after. I'm afraid I don't know the answers to your questions but I'm sure someone will be able help Smile

SlouchingPanda · 14/06/2013 10:33

Forgot to say, to whoever was craving a beer. During my months of rigorous testing, I have found the Becks Blue ones to be the best.

photographerlady · 14/06/2013 11:33

Morning all. I'm having a bit of a somber day. Went in this morning to see fertility consultant. Just a checkup but ended up crying the entire appointment. Like hormonal floodgates. We moved to the southwest when I was 20 weeks. Our original fertility consultant was awful, three years of an unemotional (rude to say it but I say completely uncaring) doctor who messed up our results countless times. We were told last July that IVF was our only opinion but our catchment had no funding so we started saving. Then in sept our follow up they said they had all the results wrong again and I had cysts (previously they always said it was unexplained and DH had a low count which wasn't true) so started clomid, a ovulation drug. I am catching myself rambling but October as you know and went through as well we found out we were pregnant.

The appointment we had today all the staff was so nice, makes me really wish I would of been in this area three years ago. I think I just need to convince myself we are actually going to have a baby, even in the appointment today (MW was there I still think she thinks I'm nuts) I keep saying we want a baby rather than we are having one.

Sorry for the long moan it's nap time I think :)
