Hi, will pop back in later as I've been quiet again for a while but just caught up with the thread and 10, I hope that Seb keeps well. Sounds like he is doing so well up till yesterday's little drama which is hopefully just a one-off. He is in the best place he can be even though it must be hard to leave him each day. Thinking of you! Brew
Wirra, sorry to hear about your crap midwife experience. You should feel looked after and reassured after your appts if they were doing their job properly. Hope you find some alternative that can give you better advice/reassurance.

SevenReasonsToSmile · 20/02/2013 08:42

I'll definitely be getting the whooping cough jab, like elly said I think the benefits far outweigh the risks. If the baby got whooping cough I know I'd never be able to forgive myself if I could have prevented it. It's personal choice of course, but a vaccine won't kill me, babies can die from whooping cough :(

beaut hope you manage to get the scan rearranged so DP can make it. I've heard the ideal time is 28 weeks, I can't see that one week later would make a huge difference.

10 ((hug)) that must have been really scary. Hopefully it won't be many weeks until you have him home. It must be so tough leaving him but he's in the best possible place for now.

I've caught DDs cold, I'm croaky and my chest hurts, and i've got bump ache from coughing already.

10 glad Seb is ok after that scare, must have been horrible, like others have said he's in the best place and will hopefully grow into himself soon, hugs and handholding, xx

I think we'll worth while to get flu and whooping cough vaccines, there is a lot going about at the moment and anything to reduce risk to baby is worth it.

beaver33 · 20/02/2013 09:05

Morning all

Taken today off work as I'm so full of the cold it's digusting. I'm a croaky, snotty pool of gunk. For anyone else out there suffering (Maybe, Seven) I can recommend Kleenex balsam tissues - they've got menthol in them and feel lovely and do help to clear the airways a bit.

10 poor you, what a fright. Love that he's off the feeding tube, though, that's great news. I suppose every step forward will come with a potential complication but he's such a little miracle baby already, and so strong in spirit. It must be so hard for you to walk away every day. One day - not so far away! - you'll walk away with him.

On whooping cough, I was def planning to have it. No-one has mentioned it to me so far - when do we get it? Next midwife appt is in 3 weeks when I'll be 31 weeks so hopefully that's still within the bracket.

28+2

roastpotatoes · 20/02/2013 09:40

beaver apparently the ideal time to have it is 28-32 weeks. Might be worth phoning your surgery and asking about it though - I had to book to see a separate nurse for it, rather than the midwife. I had it last week and it was fine. Arm ached a little bit the next day, but nothing bad.

10 I hope you managed to have a good night's sleep after yesterday's stressful day and that you get to spend some lovely time with the gorgeous Seb today.

Ellypoo · 20/02/2013 09:43

Beaver my GP surgery wrote to me, had to book it there with the nurse, not the MW, so maybe call your surgery? Think it's between 28 & either 32 or 36 wks pg.

Sorry for all of you with the horrid colds, I hope you all feel better v soon x

ng1412 · 20/02/2013 10:01

Agh just thrown up after eating an apple. Looks like morning sickness has returned. Bugger!

shelly81 · 20/02/2013 10:41

Morning sickness has returned here too :-( booooo xx

Boodstress · 20/02/2013 11:00

Morning retching returned here. Re heightened sense of smell is probably responsible. 29 + 5

tasmaniandevilchaser · 20/02/2013 14:03

hi all, I've been off line for a week, no landline or internet!!! Shock Flipping BT Angry Everything seems to be going wrong in the flat (boiler, phone, internet, toilet) and I haven't got the energy for it all.

10 sorry to hear poor little Seb and you had a rough day, hope he is doing better today. I've been thinking of you.

beaverglad to hear you got your cashpoint money back

wirra sorry to hear you had a rubbish appt, I would definitely ask for another midwife or complain. You shouldn't be feeling upset after an appt, they are doing something wrong!

elly sorry to hear you're on crutches. Hope that good days are more frequent than the bad.

My PGP is very up and down, but I went to pg yoga class yesterday and my hips feel a million dollars!!! Smile

and yes to very uncomfortable rolls from the baby, there are times when I think "this can't be right!" as it really doesn't feel good. Glad that I'm not the only one, I was starting to worry.

whooping cough jab - yes definitely for me. I had pneumonia at 13 wks with this pg and anything that avoids that kind of illness/hospital stays etc etc for me or bubba tas is a good thing.

I'm very very very tired and hormonal and I can't wait for mat leave! DH is finishing his job this week, so from now on he'll be a lot closer to home, thank goodness!

Hope everyone is doing ok,

rachywhite83 · 20/02/2013 14:57

Feeling like I have got about 6 babies inside me today ! The stomach movements are massive !

berri · 20/02/2013 15:47

10 how scary for you all :( I hope he doesn't frighten you like that again! Fingers crossed you have smooth sailing ahead, he'll be going home with you in no time. How are you feeling - are you getting enough sleep etc?

congrats on your new house!

Has anyone found a good remedy for a terrible cough? My chest hurts so much!! I've had paracetamol to get rid of my headache, which is helping a bit, but the honey & lemon I've tried for the cough is doing nothing so far. Any home remedies please send them this way!!

30 weeks tomorrow Shock how did that happen! Eek!

Rhienne · 20/02/2013 18:23

No home remedies for coughs, sorry, but my doctor prescribed a morphine based suppressant which you CAN take during pg (thank goodness) that really helped. (Don't ask about the constipation it caused). It's not possible to use it while BF, as I discovered with DS, because the morphine can cause small children's breathing to relax to dangerous levels (or something), but while the LO is still getting oxygen through your blood stream it is no danger to them. It really helped, especially at night to help me sleep.

Tis was o/s, and when I looked it up on wikipedia to find the english translation I ended up here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethylmorphine#Brand_names, which seems to be very US centric. Sorry, can't help with recommendations for UK products...

roastpotatoes · 20/02/2013 18:56

Can someone remind of all the positive things about being pregnant and having a baby?? It feels like at the moment it just means that I can't join in all the fun stuff that other people are doing and that's making me grumpy. My dh is off skiing next week without me - I have encouraged him to go because will be much harder to do once the baby is here but feels really tough because I LOVE skiing and am sad to be left at home Envy And then my friends are organising a girlie weekend on a Greek island for the August bank holiday. They invited me to go along but clearly it's impractical to think about when I'll have a 3 month old baby. And finally - just to top it off - my friends have just bought tickets to go and see one of my favourite bands but I can't go because it's in London the week before I'm due.

All this fun that I'm missing out on. :-( Feels like all I have to look forward to is ten more weeks of getting prgressively bigger and feeling more and more uncomfortable. And I think I saw the beginning of stretch marks on my tummy this morning as well Sad

Tell me to stop moaning!

Boodstress · 20/02/2013 19:45

I can't roast - I'm a monumental moaner right now. Feel tired, fat, cumbersome, emotional and sore and I can't face socialising .. I think it's a tough time of the pregnancy.

You're a very good wife sending other half off skiing. I'm not that nice, not with two boys to contend with. Intrigued about Greek islands for a weekend.. Is tht even possible? Do they have children at home ? I'm jealous about that one for sure Envy

mrsmooms · 20/02/2013 20:46

I'd like to join please ... better late than never I guess! Have an 18 month old DS and baby number 2 due 2nd May ...

Boodstress · 20/02/2013 21:34

Hi mrsmooms , you're due the day before me. How has the pregnancy being going? There is a May Stats thread that you can add yourself to. Do you know what your little one will be yet?

roastpotatoes · 20/02/2013 23:14

bood I don't feel like a very good wife, encouraging him to go and now moaning about it! I am the first of my closest friends to have a baby - not quite sure how that happened. We're all in our early to mid-thirties but I was just the first to take the plunge. So am feeling the change in lifestyle. Sure it won't be long before they all follow suit though. And that will put paid to glamorous weekends on greek islands!!

Welcome mrsmoons - great that you joined us. I'm due on 5th May...

rachy my little one has been going a bit bonkers the last couple of days as well - the kicks are so much stronger now, takes me a bit by surprise!

ng1412 · 21/02/2013 08:14

roast very commendable letting your DH go away! I can see how difficult it is to turn down social stuff, I have forgotten what having a social life is with having my DD!

Artigene just to confuse matters I am actually having the baby in a Swiss hospital as we live close to the border and the facilities are much better. Plus the French consider full term to be 41 weeks and I am not going over 40 weeks, not at my age, such a risk. I was considered high risk in the UK because of my age when I had my DD and that was 2 years ago! The French take a rather more relaxed approach which I am not a fan of.

But yes the maternity unit we had a tour of at the weekend have the option of giving your baby to a nurse overnight if you need rest, they wake you for any BF. I may take advantage of that. I suffered a lot after my DD was born as I just hadn't had any sleep for days before delivery.

betsyb75 · 21/02/2013 12:42

Hi, been off for a bit, sorry not responded to your kind messages...just caught up.

Beaver i do live just outside Sarf London!
Still no classes we can do with NCT, so have asked my midwife if any NHS ones close by- fingers crossed. I work for a publication, but mostly sit on my bum all day staring at pictures!

Terra I wasn't expecting the GTT result at all, although I do have an underactive thyroid. I also have low iron so they have given me some Iron tablets.

Wirra I'm going to Baby Show tomorrow! Am so excited, I just want to try out some prams and get excited again...I feel like I have just been a moany old cow for ages! Hope you have a great day.

Maybe and Artigene Its good to know big babies are ok!
It was a different midwife to my usual one, she didn't measure me, just felt my bump, although my last appt with normal midwife, I was measuring correctly for the weeks. I have a appt in 2 weeks with a diabetic nurse and have been told to keep an eye on my diet.

And to everyone who has kindly asked about my dad, thank you- he is due to go in on Tuesday for more exploratory tests on his liver, and then they want to start chemo asap on his bowel. Still trying to be calm and strong, but I am having wobbly days...prob doesn't help that I have been worried about the GTT results etc.

Sorry for long post, just wanted to reply, and hope everyone feeling better/ok.
Its started to get really hard to sleep now, rolling over/getting out of bed is starting to get comical!

29+3

Catchingmockingbirds · 21/02/2013 16:30

Hi everyone, it's been a while, last time I was on the May thread was probably around my 12 week scan.

I'm glad to see everyone is keeping well, not long now :o

berri · 21/02/2013 20:23

Hi mrsmooms we are due date buddies! Hope you're feeling ok so far!

mrsmooms · 21/02/2013 21:36

Hi bood, roast, berri and everyone else (and thanks for info re adding myself to the stats thread, will do that). Is there also a FB group?

30 weeks today ... have just started getting much bigger and the reality of knowing I'll have a newborn to look after as well as a toddler within a matter of weeks is starting to sink in Shock Oh and um the actual birth bit as well ...

Anyone else been living in pleasantly ignorant bliss until now??

Catchingmockingbirds · 21/02/2013 21:49

My son is now 6 so the sleepless nights and constant stress are a distant memory for me mooms, I've a feeling that I'll get a nasty shock when she's here and I'm doing the school run on 2 hours sleep with a screaming newborn.

Has anyone had any scares at all? I had some bleeding the other night, terrified me but everything was fine.

SevenReasonsToSmile · 22/02/2013 10:41

Hi to mrsmooms and welcome back mockingbirds.

roast the last trimester is tough, we're uncomfy yet having a baby still feels like weeks away. Come August you'll be snuggling your baby and walking in the park on hot sunny days with the pram, they'll be waking up hungover and moaning about it being too hot.

My cold has now progressed to having completely lost my voice. I'm so congested and have a chesty cough, the linctus and paracetamol I've been told to use aren't even touching it.
