We have been lucky enough to be given tons of hand-me-downs. I have two large Bag-for-life bags full to bursting of newborn things, and about the same or a little more of 0-3 months. Also a large drawerful of 3-6 month, and odds and ends of bigger things- and then two more huge bags of 12-18 month stuff!!

So I think this baby is not going to be short of clothes...
I have spent a big chunk of today sorting them into sizes, and tomorrow I will get into washing the things which have come from a loft, and the new bits which DP's Mum has very kindly given us.

I need to look over the lists of "things you need" from my various books, and see where the (gaping) gaps are, but I'm pretty confident that they will not be in the clothing category!!!

Oh yes, and I need to get rid of half the stuff in the flat in order to make room for the new person who will be shortly joining us...

Emsyboo · 11/02/2013 18:48

Leni I got loads off eBay for DS and using again for this one baby's grow so quick they are really good condition not worn or stained and still perfect now. We used to get loads of his clothes off eBay but finding boys clothes for toddlers in good condition is a bit harder lol.
DS was 9lb2oz so didn't fit into newborn but DH has insisted on buying a few newborn stuff anyway - keeping the tags onSmile
Rainbow poor you seems like a long pregnancy for you with the injections but the end is near and we will all forget all these pains and problems once we have LO in our arms!

Oodsigma · 11/02/2013 19:26

I've a few things suitable for boy or girl that will have been worn by all 4 of my children. I'm quite excited by that!

Ood that's very pleasing!

pudtat · 12/02/2013 02:05

Ugh, so far I have got away lightly on the heartburn front, but tonight it has struck with a vengeance. Happy 34 weeks today to me! Currently sat downstairs sipping a glass of milk in the hope it will bring things under control enough for me to go back to bed (tomorrow I shop for Gaviscon!). Think it may have been choosing a glass of Orange juice to have with dinner - don't usually have it, and if I do usually only during the day, not before lying down. Normally am owner of a stomach of iron, so this really is unusual and rather unpleasant - my sympathy to those who I know have been suffering for some time!

StormyBrid · 12/02/2013 08:36

Yep, orange juice is probably best avoided these days! Definitely recommend buying gaviscon though, when I got some I didn't have another attack of heartburn for weeks. Good old sod's law.

Yesterday's list was a roaring success (did everything on it except the hospital bag) so I am making another one today. I need to: do a load of washing; pop to the butcher's for some big lumps of meat for tea; wash up the breakfast stuff; pack the hospital bag (yeah, right). I'm sure there was a fifth thing on my list but buggered if I can remember it.

This morning business is a hell of a shock to the system. I suspect my body's habit of sleeping best between four and ten in the morning is not going to serve me well over the next few months...

SoYo · 12/02/2013 09:12

Right Stormy, I'm with you on the list front!

I need to: put up the blackout blind in the nursery, pack the hospital bag, pop to the chemist, put tonights dinner in the slow cooker, make sure I've got all ingredients in for pancake fest, put up of our wedding pictures finally in the bedroom, catch up on Call The Midwife!

I've taken to waking up at 5.45 (usually work getting up time) but manage to force myself back to sleep until about 7.30 (although get up for a pee at 2am and 4am)! Think this is preparing me well!

StormyBrid · 12/02/2013 09:38

Argh, curtains! Nursery has nothing up at all but not worried yet as she'll be in with us at first. Our room has blinds, and I love the way they let in light but stop anyone seeing in. That's not going to help her sleep, is it? Tomorrow's list will have to contain: asking brother to fit a curtain rail while he's putting the cot up.

Got Call the Midwife and OBEM every minute to catch up on. The man tends to resist watching them, bit too gory and screaming for his tastes.

plonko · 12/02/2013 09:47

Ooh orange juice is a no go area for me now! Even though bump has dropped significantly I'm still getting ridiculous heartburn. I've given in to doing whatever I can to get the ball rolling, and tried to eat pineapple yesterday...not good for heartburn. And I'm out of Gaviscon! Maybe if I get more in I'll suddenly go into labour?

Baby clothes....turns out they're rather a sore point with DP. I wish he'd told me sooner, or, you know, actually wanted to come shopping with me. All I've actually bought has been a couple of multipacks from M&S and Next, and 4 sleepsuits from Sainsburys. Otherwise friends and family have got us so much stuff that we've really not needed to do much ourselves. On Sunday he told me he wished he'd been able to contribute Hmm. Oh well, I'm sure he'll cheer up later when I make him a big stack of pancakes.

I think I might've overdone it a bit yesterday. It started out with repacking the hospital bags (100% done now), and organising nappy changing boxes for upstairs and down. Then three loads of washing and cleaning the kitchen. Then hoovering the entire house, including stairs. And the blinds in my bedroom.

Today is floor scrubbing day!

StormyBrid · 12/02/2013 10:52

Plonko, tell him he'll still be able to buy plenty - babies grow fast. We're covered for 0-3 but don't have much 3-6, and then we have absolutely nothing until age 2 as my sister handed on all her age 1 etc clothes to other people when I was single and bemoaning my inability to immaculately conceive. So there will be loads of stuff to spend the man's paycheck on. Grin

Have thought of another item for today's list: resist urge to go back to bed. Success not guaranteed.

zigwig · 12/02/2013 12:24

Can I pick you lovely ladies brains. I'm trying to think what I still need to get. We have a crib for the bedroom as the cot will take up too much room in with us. I've got a new mattress for it but I'm not sure what else to get. I have so far just got two fitted sheets for it. Is this enough if I use a muslin under baby too or should I get more? Also is it worth getting a mattress protector or will that just make it really uncomfortable for baby?

Oodsigma · 12/02/2013 12:48

I would get a couple more sheets in case of sicky nights but I've not used a mattress protector.

leniwhite · 12/02/2013 13:55

Can someone please write me a list? I can't even be bothered to get that far! OH is away filming all day so I've been to the consultant alone - good news is they've discharged me and I can go to the birth centre instead of labour ward! I'm over the moon Grin

Now I just need to decide if I want to go fully drug free or not...

All of you sound so much more dynamic than I feel right now, my burst of nesting energy ebbed away last week and hasn't returned yet. If you keep talking about it maybe it'll rub off?

SoYo · 12/02/2013 14:06

I was planning on having 4 sheets for the moses basket, got 2 so far and was planning to just have these (with a muslin over it under bubba's head) while I wait and see if Bubba will settle in there but I think one sicky night will see to them and don't want to have to do a washing every morning so think 2 more to be on the safe side!

Stormy Bubba's going to be in with us too so I'm going to have the nursery as sorted as possible because I plan to go into there for some of the night feeds and time away from the PuppyMonster during the day and also I know that if I don't sort it now I'll never get around to it with a newborn! Just trying to make use of the nesting energy! Although speaking of that I've cut down today's list to sofa snoozing, pack hospital bag and cook dinner after an impromptu trip out for lunch with friend!

Plonko count yourself lucky that DH wants to get involved with those bits, no matter how many cute and tiny babygrows I flash under DH's nose he has no interest, think it's just an extension of his lack of interest in clothes in general though!

StormyBrid · 12/02/2013 15:16

Leni, I'll start you off.

One: Begin writing To Do List
Two: Tick off first item on To Do List
Three: Tick off second item
Four: Be astonished at own productivity
Five: Cake

Oodsigma · 12/02/2013 15:27

You forgot step two is write 'write to do list'

OP posts:
Countmyblessings · 12/02/2013 17:47

Leni - ahhhh bless what type of list hospital bag or everything you'll need?
I'm so proud of myself as I've done all my bits and all baby bits washed and ready.
I've decided not to get a baby bath takes up space and so will use a basin for early stage may get the chair for later, depends on gift vouchers that I will receive from work mates next week!
Struggling to have a full night sleep and am doing much better to avoid the dreaded heartburn its just not funny!
All this horse meat talk is making me sick so avoiding most meats and enjoying my Rice Krispies and bagel with peanut butter and choc spread!

Countmyblessings · 12/02/2013 17:52

Zig wig - def get more sheets as baby will spend loads of time in there great places is toy r us a good bundle bag or order from eBay or amazon great bargains!! Enjoy!
Nesting nesting nesting vibes to you also Leni!!!! And everyone else slowing down on all the "must dos before baby comes!"

Oodsigma · 12/02/2013 18:11

We use a washing up bowl initially. Dd3 used to grip her toes on the rim to stop us putting her in. You'll be amazed how much strength a 2 week old has when they don't want something

OP posts:
leniwhite · 12/02/2013 18:41

List update: today managed to wash up (as painful as it was), clean the oven, clean the bathroom, mop the floors, hoover, dust and file all the random bits of paper that tend to amass on every surface. And all without a list! Plus I called my Dad, which is a half day task in itself.

Now awkwardly sitting on sofa trying to uncrunch my back Confused

See, I knew if you all talked about it enough it'd work!

No doubt it'll be a mess again by the end of tomorrow, but for tonight I feel nicely smug.

plonko · 12/02/2013 21:32

My dynamism from yesterday has rendered me utterly useless today. It's been nice though, feeling justified in pottering about at my leisure, resting and starting the final part of the homemade cot mobile.

Soyo I'm so glad he's starting to want to be involved, but seeing as I started buying things 18 weeks ago now is just not the time to become sensitive. The silly boy! The drawer in our room is full of stuff for up to 3 months, the clothing rail is filled with 3+, so many things on there and I've only bought 3 items in that size! Must remember to thank my mum more often.

Sheets wise we have but 2 for the Moses basket. Nice John Lewis ones that cost so much I thought ill just use a handy combo of pillow cases and muslin squares for any pukey nights. The basket mattress has a water proof cover already which saves me a job but I intend to buy one for the cot bed.

Leni that's good news :)

Baby feels really low now- I managed to eat a full meal! In one sitting! And at more or less the same pace as DP, aka the worlds slowest eater. And for the first time since October I don't even have heartburn. Tonight is full of win.

Emsyboo · 13/02/2013 04:53

Well done Leni
Good to see you are all being productive while I am sitting in my bum Smile

Last full day of work before maternity leave today but will do a few hours tomorrow and Friday before it starts officially. Unfortunately been up since 3am worrying about things - mostly something my inlaws have done so I know I'm not going to be productive today!
Missing my sisters wedding as cant travel (docs orders) so even more pissed off.
I got a baby bath last time but it was a bit awkward and took up loads of space so not bothering this time, tend to bath baby with me or in the sink lol
Unpacked loads of sheets I need a lot as don't have a dryer so everything takes a long time to wash and dry this time of year.

theTramp · 13/02/2013 08:58

Very organised ladies. I'm still woefully underprepared. But hey that's what next day delivery & interweb is for.

zigwig · 13/02/2013 09:14

Ok thanks. Seems like a couple more sheets might be in order although excellent tip about the pillowcases. I'll remember to try that. Ordered some muslins yesterday as I've been told how useful they are, and the pram arrived yesterday so I'm getting there.

I wasn't going to bother with a baby bath either. Just use the sink and in the bath with me, but a work colleague has given us one along with some other bits and pieces, so I have kept it to see if I use it or not. It does take up an annoying amount of space though.

Countmyblessings · 13/02/2013 17:15

Hi ladies - all this nesting and getting things prepped is good!
I'm 36 weeks today and have been told by MW today that baby is still in breeched position and I may have to start thinking of a CS!!!
Ermmmm DC4 and this ones not playing ball! Not Happy at all right now!
Blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
