Thanks sarah & jojo for the thread title. :)

Rainbow your midwife has quite a way with words. The best I've heard from mine is describing measuring as 'making sure you've got a nice lovely-sized baby'. I have to say my confidence in her sank slightly after that.

StormyBrid · 29/01/2013 12:17

I do have some gaviscon already. Had an attack of heartburn weeks ago. Just having the gaviscon in the house made it go away, which is a bonus. Tummy feels like it's working normally again today, and had four pees in the night, so normal service has clearly been resumed. I may celebrate with bacon.

Glad things have moved on since the days of being routinely shaved. I've never shaved down there, and I don't want to start, especially not when I've just given birth. The prickliness of regrowth sounds like it'd be a bit grim at such a time. As for the enema, I think that's why attacks of the runs sometimes precede labour - no need for an enema if your body's already had a good clear-out!

leniwhite · 29/01/2013 13:59

Normally i shave every so often (mother nature was more than generous with body hair for me), but it's just too dangerous now I can't see - once you've sliced half a finger nail off a few times you decide to just grow the bush! Might have a quick once over with small clippers towards the end just so they'll be able to see the baby Wink so glam eh? OH does not approve, he likes hairless, weirdo.

StormyBrid · 29/01/2013 14:03

It's the potential clots that worry me. I've heard horror stories about the amount of bleeding that goes on after giving birth. The less pubic hair there is to get all gunked up the better, I think. The man has offered to neaten things up with his beard trimmer but I'm drawing the line there. Scissors seem a bit more easily controlled.

theTramp · 29/01/2013 15:17

For lady trimming without nicks and v little visibility these things are your friend. Boots sell them, but I couldn't work out how to get a link. www.amazon.com/Schick-Quattro-Trimstyle-Bikini-Trimmer/dp/B001TH8Q72/ref=pd_zg_rss_ts_hpc_3778651_5?ie=UTF8&tag=othercat0c-20

StormyBrid · 29/01/2013 15:42

Tempting, Tramp, but I would miss the expression of intense concentration on the man's face if I took over the gardening myself!

Moses basket arrived this morning. So far the cats have smeared their faces all over the stand, but have yet to realise it may also provide a comfy sleeping spot. We debated testing it out by swaddling the neurotic one and sticking her in there, but in the end decided against it. I keep looking at it and getting freaked out by the idea that there's going to be a baby in there in a few weeks.

SoYo · 29/01/2013 16:25

Afternoon all,

I've got a day off today, then work Weds & Thurs and then it's mat leave!!!

Anyone that's managed to avoid heartburn to any great extent be very glad, I'd never realised how bloody painful it is and at the moment I'm on the gaviscon 10x upwards per day with the odd ranitidine tablet thrown in on especially bad days! Bloody agony!

Just been to watch Les Mis with DH as he's off this week post nights....it turns out cinemas in the middle of the day are only occupied by the retired....no noisy people and everyone very polite when I had to barge past to pee and sobbed a little too loudly! Lovely!

We're having the nursery carpets fitted tomorrow and the wardrobes got delivered today but will need putting together once carpets are in. We went for giant tall ikea self design things because nursery will also continue to be storage area for my wardrobe overflow and towels/sheets/general other household stuff!

Stormy I'm going to get the moses basket down next week and start training the PuppyMonster or failing to more likely that it's not for her and not to be jumped up on.

I just can't get my head round the idea of not being at work at the moment, just seems all a bit surreal still....surely the massive bump, constant backache and regular need for naps should be hinting at me about the fact that it is all real!!!

Tramp and Leni I think I had my least dignified moment of pregnancy so far the other day, didn't fancy asking DH to give me a quick lady trimming so instead found myself sat on newspaper on our bedroom floor with beard trimmer in hand and a foot on either side of the mirror.....oh the glamour!!!

leniwhite · 29/01/2013 18:01

I used OH's beard trimmer, he never noticed! Wink

SoYo i was refused ranitidine by some rude woman in Boots yesterday, she also trued to stop me buying Gaviscon which specifically said 'you can take this in pregnancy'.

eigmum · 29/01/2013 22:13

Very jealous of you AT&T starting maternity leave, may need to have a re think on lasting another z4 weeks at work!!

eigmum · 29/01/2013 22:14

Mean all not AT&T ! Flipping auto correct on the iPad!

backwardpossom · 29/01/2013 22:14

2 weeks to go until mat leave for me. It can't come soon enough.

On the episiotomy v tear thing... don't do what I did and end up with both Wink

plonko · 29/01/2013 23:58

Leni I think I would have cried at the boots lady! Very stupid of her.

On the bush front... I think I'm going to have one more attempt at, erm, taming it. I don't much like the idea of getting blood in it either stormy, that could be a bit sore... I've been in the mood to do a bit if preening lately, but learnt the hard way that cutting your own toenails at this stage is pretty much impossible.

I'm due in four weeks! Aaaaargh! The only thing left to buy is the Moses basket, which I've left up to dp's mum. Speaking of, our parents are all meeting for the first time this Sunday. I'm kind of hoping I go into labour before then, save myself the hassle!

Countmyblessings · 30/01/2013 12:28

Hi ladies - well I have admitted defeat and agreed with my GP that I will have to give up work now! After work on Monday was in so much pain my DH had to carry me upstairs and I had to take my painkillers just to help me finally get out of bed to go toilet!!!! The amount of noise I made to get off bed my DH thought I was in labour!!!!!!! Dc4 is really making me remember every single minute of this pregnancy!!!!
Never had any issues with my 1st two but my last one spd came at 21 weeks but I still coped and went full term 45 min and my ds was born never used gas & air! It happened that quickly so hoping this one will just fly out with just 1 single push!!!!!! No peaceful nites for me as my household all sleeps can't even enjoy nite snacks without heartburn so just play games on iPad or watch tv!!!!!!
I really think this baby is planning to escape through my belly button the pressure and intense kicking on that spot is mad!!!!!!

backwardpossom · 30/01/2013 18:01

Sorry to hear you're in so much pain, Count. Hope being off work helps x

eigmum · 30/01/2013 21:34

count glad you are finishing work and sorry to hear about all that pain, hopefully you will get some rest at home? I have admitted defeat on one of my deals and got help and may need to go earlier than I did last ime as feeling the strain now... Only 33 weeks though so still 6 weeks or so to go.

Can't remember who suggested northcote Place for a massage but it was great, leg pains gone mostly so i'll be back next weekend! Also had a pedicure at the weekend as can't reach feet properly now! The luxury was lovely!

theTramp · 31/01/2013 08:13

Pedis are an essential when you can't reach your feet.

My stomach is presently making the strangest noises. Not sure if its Socs related or just a particularly odds I'm hungry growl. Think bath water going down plug hole when baths still full.

Mat leave a way away for me. Plan is 1 March onwards work from sofa with lap top. Reality is I'm already doing a fair bit of this. An mostly getting v tired and v uncomfy. I'll be 33w on Friday, so a fair way to go as yet which is a bit discouraging as I was hoping it'd be around 36/37w before I got quite this uncomfy. Ah well.

Ordering new lap top today (lord that's been a saga). Lighter, faster, better. Cannot wait!

christilass · 31/01/2013 15:03

Hi all , i have 4 weeks to go feel great, I'm almost 40 years old, expecting 1st child, awoke during last night with mildish period pains, is this a normal ?
Many thanks
hope everyone is well :-)

Countmyblessings · 31/01/2013 16:41

Yes this indeed seems normal as these can be described as braxton hicks!! Your body gearing up!!!!
Wow 40 and feeling great lucky you!!! Dc4 here so I guess it's taken its toil on my body!!!! Will avoid going out unless strictly
Ness and has to be with someone as I just have strong feeling this ones coming early!!!!! Still not finished hospital bag not even
Got nappies better start ordering right maxi cosi carseat and stuff! Removed cover from ds stokke carry cot so need to get it washed and ready!!!!
Eig- yeh pains are nightmare baby I believe is head down as getting loads of movement on my rib cage!!!!
The tramp - was hoping to hold of mat leave but with this type of pain had to def use wisdom and listen to my body screaming Stop!!!!

SoYo · 31/01/2013 20:27

Finished for mat leave today! It feels so wierd. I've been exhausted all week & so looking forward to it but today kept thinking 'maybe I should be working a bit longer'. Think I would have been pushing it though! It was a lovely day, had a party tea, 3 lots of cake (now too full for dinner) & got some very lovely pressies from lovely colleagues.

Off to a wedding on Saturday so need to find something to wear that fits tomorrow! Plan for next week is pram delivery on Monday then Tuesday I've got a full pre-natal spa day that lovely DH got for my birthday! So excited!!!

After that I really need to start getting a bit more prepared for Bubba's arrival & sort the hospital bag!!!

Current pregnancy complaints are feet under ribs & fat feet!!! What are the rest of your least favourite at the moment?

StormyBrid · 31/01/2013 21:35

Bit that's annoying me most at the moment is baby hiccups. Wriggling around is fine, but that regular, internal "thunk, thunk, thunk" drives me mad!

Have now got my sister's old buggy and cot. Now need to get some screws and a degree in carpentry to assemble the cot. Also need to work out what one calls that squishy U-shaped head support for newborns in carseats and buggies, cos it vanished years ago and I have no idea what to search for on amazon. Anyone know?

plonko · 31/01/2013 23:14

Is it a head hugger, Stormy?

Hiccups, about 4 times a day and feeling them in my bum! It does make me laugh but seems a particular nuisance when walking uphill, and seeing as I live in Derbyshire... That and feeling like a blimp. I am that pregnant woman, the clumsy one that drops everything and struggles to pick it up for what seems like forever..

Had my 36 week check up today. Head is 4/5 engaged! Quite pleased as along with having a slight 'show' yesterday I really feel like I'm on the home straight now. Christilass I also have started to get period pains, and funny pressure feelings down below. It's all good! Slightly uncomfortable but it's progress.

Yay for people finishing work and putting their feet up! I've come over all mumsy and twee, having decided to make a cot mobile out of felt. I'm sure it'll end up in the bin, but it'll keep me busy between naps.

leniwhite · 31/01/2013 23:28

I thought it was a 'newborn insert', sounds worse than it is!

Hiccups here too - for ages this morning and ditto can feel them in my arse. Shooting pains in my bladder too, like when you get cystitis only just random pains a couple of times a day. He feels lower today and I've been having 'period pains' and wondering if it's BH or not, plus the really weird bigger one last night whilst watching One Born.

Hiring a car to get a chest of drawers tomorrow, I hate Ikea but it's really close and I'm lazy! It's the only furniture we're buying really.

My huge mouth ulcer has made my gland swell, not pleasant - might stick salt on it tomorrow Confused

Countmyblessings · 31/01/2013 23:38

Ahhhhh the pain the flippin pain when I walk, sit, lay down, turn over its just getting me so down and just want this pregnancy to be over!!!!
34 weeks and spd has kicked in big time! Seriously it feels like my pelvis bone has gone and I have nothing to hold this baby in anymore!
And also have discovered a rash on my chest right between my boobs WTH!!!!!!!!
Need some motivation to go online and get maxi cosi carseat and Moses basket but now wandering if I can just use the carrycot from buggy instead? Although finished work I never got chance to say bye! So will pop back next Friday!!!!

theTramp · 01/02/2013 00:18

Get rash checked out sharpish countmy. Could be sweat related or could be sign of something else. Get MW, GP or ante-natal to check it.

I'd really like to go on mat leave now, but I'm own bis owner so if I don't work no money. Still I do have flexibility to head home early or have a duvet day when required so I'm doing on. I think listening to body and if it says - please no more! - paying attention to it is worthwhile.

I get most frustrated by the exhaustion - concentration suffers, I feel nauseous & frankly on such days I'm no use to anyone. I had a great day today, proper energy & concentration. If I could have 3-4 days like this a week, 10am to 5pm, I'll breeze through next few weeks. I'm not sure that's gonna happen though.

I have no idea how so many women manage to work right up to last minute. Physical issues aside - the sleep & wandering mental state, how do they do it?!

pudtat · 01/02/2013 07:31

Currently working 9am-7pm with no lunch break most days - am starting to wonder if I have 6 more weeks of it left in me!

Count carrycot needs to be rated for overnight sleeping if you are thinking of using it for longer periods - something to do wtih firmness of mattress and ventilation of same apparently. Uppababy is, but others we looked at weren't.

Must dash, early networking breakfast and already running late!
