We had this cot bumper it's made from breathable mesh fabric. And it stopped DS from getting his legs stuck between the bars when he became more mobile.

We will be using most of the stuff we had for DS but I have treated myself to a storksak leather changing bag, second hand off eBay.
And I've bought some hypnobirthing books.
We need to buy a wardrobe for DS so that DC2 can inherit his drawer chest and I'm sure there will be other expenses...

PurpleDana · 20/01/2013 19:57

Hi everyone. Not been on for ages, battling sickness and tiredness has taken up all my energy!!
10wks today :-) scan on 5th feb.
Our list of stuff to buy is EVERYTHING! lol. my last baby was 19yrs ago and my husbands was 11yrs ago. We haven't bought anything yet but have been looking. Although we are disagreeing on the pushchair. I love the graco evo in green but hubby doesn't like colour and thinks we should go for cheaper!

Jollymummy2 · 20/01/2013 20:30

I have been dream shopping for lots of lovely new baby bits. In reality we will only need a new car seat and cot mattress. Although I am in the process of convincing DH that we NEED a new pushchair, so am looking as icandy apple, and quinny buzz on Ebay!
Still feeling crap, and back to struggling with quenching my constant thirst without feeling sick.
10+2 with a hint of "death warmed up" Shock

RuckAndRoll · 20/01/2013 20:36

evening all.
wow, so much baby stuff into to look into :-) we were visiting sil this weekend with her 10day old baby, really good to see dh cuddling her and loving it Smile we've been offered a bundle of newborn clothes.from her which is great.

what's not so great is being stuck at Birmingham airport waiting for the airfield to reopen and get us home.

FoofFighter · 20/01/2013 20:41

Ooh Purpledana, another with a huge age gap :) it's almost like having your first again isn't it?! My dc are 21 and 18.

I've bought just a babygro/hat/vest set for coming home in and a set of cotton blankets for swaddling. Not going to buy anything else till after 20 week scan, then get a couple of things a week.

Have researched what big items I want, basically just a cotbed, cot-top changer, pram and bouncy chair. All of which have seen on Kiddicare website and will got and have a play in store next week while we are down in England.

Ruck, we are flying into Brum on Thursday (hopefully!!) how is it honestly?? am starting to get very nervous that we won't get down ok :( (flying from Inverness)

RuckAndRoll · 20/01/2013 20:48

foof well currently the airfield is closed. snow isn't bad, especially by Scotland standards, they just can't cope here. they have three snow ploughs on the go that we can see. on Friday night Edinburgh had about ten. if required dh is perfectly willing to play the pregnancy card to get us hotel rooms/flight transfer

RugBugs · 20/01/2013 21:31

Oohhh Purpledana we have the same due date! My scan is the day after yours.

There's a baby and toddler show in our town a few days before our scan and we have tickets, I shall try and come out with freebies only!

PurpleDana · 20/01/2013 21:42

Ha ha yes foo definitely feels like starting again.
bugs my lmp date gives me 20th aug which would make me 9+5, but had early scan which put me 2 days ahead of that. So I'd rather go with scan date :-)

blondecat · 21/01/2013 07:44

Snow snow snow

I hope everyone got home Ok and no one is too stuck. The good thing about having left London is that we are in the land of big snow ploughs(for roads), small snow ploughs ( for pavements ) and mini snow ploughs - these look like converted lawn mowers - one just pushes them along. Upshot: we cope pretty well, unless there is heavy snow during the sacred lunch break.

My NT scan is due today. I am furious as DH admitted last night that since everything looks OK he won't be making it after all. Too busy. I know he is being logical but I feel hurt and unloved. I was looking forward to seeing him on a weekday afternoon. And I feel it will cue more obgyn jokes - with DD the consultant wondered how DH found the time in his busy schedule to make the baby Confused

I am feeling better. Haven't lifted DD since last Thursday and the spotting stopped. Touch wood. To keep this up I fear we will have to open up her cot so she can go in and out on her own but I fear that will send her looking for us in the middle of the night. Does anyone have tips on that ?

So nice to hear you are already looking at the baby lists. I am planning to one day review all we have stored away and will then decide what we need. Or what I can't resist buying. I suppose it will depend on whether its another girl or a boy. I had tried to get unisex things the first time round but somehow we ended up with lots of lovely girly stuff anyway.

RugBugs · 21/01/2013 08:17

Good luck with your scan today Blonde

We moved DD into a toddler bed at 17 months and she has never gotten out by herself (now 2.2) I kind of wish she would some mornings!

DP's school is one of the very few that stayed open in Fri and is open again today, the downside of teaching at an outstanding school I guess.

wavesandsmiles · 21/01/2013 09:44

Good luck with your scan blonde I'd be furious with my DH if he had said he was too busy to come. But then exDH left me in hospital without bothering to visit for 2 days when I was admitted as an emergency when very pg with DD, which makes me a bit oversensitive on the subject I expect. Anyway, I sympathise fully and am glad you are feeling better.

We have to buy everything for the baby. DD will be nearly 8 which although isn't a massive age gap in real terms, feels like it at the moment! Especially as there was only 17 months between DS and DD.

I got home on Saturday after a night's delay from my work trip. We see snow so rarely in the Channel Islands I don't think the airports have snowploughs at all...I did see lots of people out with shovels and a few diggers though.

OxfordToLondoner · 21/01/2013 10:09

Not a happy bunny here in snowy Oxfordshire.

Had my nuchal scan this morning.

First things first...I had 45 wonderful mins of seeing baby wriggling about. Everything looks perfect. Was even given a 'I'm 95% sure' on the gender front (a massive and lovely surprise).

But then...my bloods. Essentially, whilst things look ok , my bloods say otherwise. And I have a v high downs risk.

Thanks to - sorry can't recall name - a lovely lady who posted a few days ago about a brand new blood test called 'harmony' I was already armed with some info about it. As luck would have it my dr is literally just about to get licensed and will be ready to go tomorrow. So I'll be her first patient. Essentially it means I don't have to have an invasive test ( unless the results come back as poor, which is unlikely). I have to wait a long 2 weeks for the results.

So, I have very mixed feelings today. Excited to see baby, looking so fantastic. Shocked to hear gender (my husbands family have 100 years of all boys, bar one girl, and he has 2 boys already...we just might have a DD). Worried, but trying to keep positive. Thankful I'm able to afford the Harmony test ( I appreciate it's not an option for everyone ). Oh, and sick, of-course!

Off to have coffee (decaf!) with a friend who's been through a similar experience now. Thank goodness for friends huh? Real. And mumsnet.

X

Kty77 · 21/01/2013 10:23

Hi, first time on here, due August 29th or 31st? Will wait for 12wk scan to confirm. Can add to the list as assume you hv to copy and paste which I struggle to do on the iPad without copying the whole page? Anyway, feeling a little sick today and a little stressed a DD is off school with snow .... I am too tired to keep her occupied today! I am 8w 3d I guess, find this early stage a non stop worry... Would like contestant confirmation that all is as it should be but will just have to get on with it! Hope you are all feeling well! X

Kty77 · 21/01/2013 10:50

Oh - that should have said constant? Sorry!!

beckie90 · 21/01/2013 11:02

Welcome kty :)

oxford thats great to hear about your scan, and my partners side are all boys too, we have 2 boys aswell and I'm convinced this time its a girl, probably going to be proved wrong in the coming weeks ha.

blonde so sorry to hear about your DH, can totally sympathise with you, I've had 2 early scans cause of bleeding, he didn't come to any of them, and also says he's not coming to my scan next week or the 20wk one, since I've got pregnant he's been a total arse, and feel very unloved. He's acting so immature about it all. And seen as I've told no one I feel very alone without any support. But of course were strong us women, so Il get buy :)

Very snowy over were I live, all the schools are closed. So stuck in the house AGAIN.

Good luck with your scan blonde xx

11+5

Kty77 · 21/01/2013 11:12

Thanks Beckie,
What a shame he is not excited about the scans?? Nothing like pregnancy to test each other! Can you not tell one close friend so you have company?? X

Stopsittingonyoursister · 21/01/2013 11:19

Hi All

Just a quick post - had my 12wk scan today (in the snow, few tense moments driving in!) and everything looks fine thank goodness. Was so worried about it last night, convinced that something was going to be wrong, but no, everything looks absolutely fine. Bean was wriggling around, waving at the camera and generally posing. Due date is now 1.8.13 officially, but could be +/- 5 days at this stage.

Only one awful thing - DH missed the scan. He had been away over the weekend seeing his brother who lives in Brussels, and Eurostar got snowed in, so he missed the london connection yesterday. Got the first train back up from London today, but then we are snowed in here, so got to the hospital at 9.15 and my scan was at 9am. And even though there was no-one else waiting in the room, the sonographer refused to let me go back and just quickly show DH, which I thought was really mean. He was practically crying, he was so upset to miss it Sad. They gave us extra pictures, but I don't think it really makes up for it. But, never mind, I'm sure he'll get over it and we have the 20 week scan booked in for 14th March and he will definitely make that one.

Sorry to hear about your mixed results oxford. I know it's hard, but try and remember that even a 1 in 2 chance of Downs still means a 50% chance of a healthy baby. I hope you can stay positive and get lots of RL support as well as information and support on here. Best of luck.

Hope everything goes well with your scan today blonde.

PatButchersEarring · 21/01/2013 11:38

Hi all.

Been lurking for a few weeks. Due date for #2 18th/19th August.

Oxford wanted to say that I had exactly that with DD (3.5). Nuchal screening looked fine, but bloods came back high risk. After an amnio, thankfully everything was confirmed as normal.

It's horrible, but try not to worry too much. Think it's more common than people realise. I'm half expecting the same to happen this time round to be honest.

What did put my mind at rest last time was something that my boss said when I told him why I'd be absent from work for a couple of days (notorious serial monogamist that he was!)

Boss- 'Don't worry about it, Pat, my exes came back as high risk, and all was fine'

Me- 'So your ex came back as high risk on the blood tests?'

Boss- 'No, Pat, BOTH of my exes came back as high risk on the blood tests!'

It did make me chuckle!

Fingers crossed for you Oxford.

RugBugs · 21/01/2013 11:40

Oh Oxford how stomach twistingly awful to have to wait two weeks. Did they say which blood marker it was that gave you the high risk?
I've been looking at the harmony test too and would most definately go the same route as you.

Welcome Kty77

Stopsittingonyoursister That is really mean and sounds like a quick scan anyway! Maybe the sonographer was in desperate need of caffeine/a fag? But why couldn't they have been late too and then all would have been good!

Have realised today that fatigue seems to have gone hurray! Replaced with dizziness though grrrrr (I'm being very good and eating porridge for brekkkie every day).

OxfordToLondoner · 21/01/2013 12:40

rugbugs it was both blood markers unfortunately, but all scan markers were perfect. So, fingers crossed.

LittleMissSnowShine · 21/01/2013 12:42

blonde - good luck with your scan and v good news that spotting seems to have stopped

stopsitting - oh your poor DH :( Oh well, the good news is that there is so much more to see at 20 week scan, it'll be very exciting for him

oxford - sorry about your blood results, great news you can get the less invasive test to clarify things for you. Keeping everything crossed.

Went for more acupuncture this morning and felt a little bit hungry afterwards, which is v rare for me cos of constant nausea. So on the way home I had to stop and get petrol and I picked up a sandwich from the fridge cabinet. It was chicken and mayo so nothing particularly crazy but for some reason it just really appealed to me. Came home and started eating it. Got half way through and then threw it all back up. Back to square one - bed rest and more Greys Anatomy. Ho hum!

blondecat · 21/01/2013 12:55

Oxford, hang in there. It will be a tough two weeks but I think it's worth it - not putting the baby under threat. All the diagnostic tools we have now are fantastic. I can't imagine a pregnancy with no ultrasound for example yet it's relatively recent.

Christelle2207 · 21/01/2013 12:59

oxford so sorry for the uncertainty but in a couple of weeks you will know for certain- hopefully that she's fine. if you didnt have the test you might be low risk but you could still have a downs baby- this happened to a friend.

sister shame on the mw but pleased that baby is well! my scan on fri.

thanks all for reassurance on the discharge front!

FoofFighter · 21/01/2013 13:06

Looks like it's going to be a challenging day on this thread for many today then Sad

Can I add to the woes please?

Call from MW, booking bloods showing possible diabetes (wether gestational or underlying normal who know as yet) it's quite early from what Dr Google is telling me for it to be proper GD, so who knows? Half expected iron to come back low as been feeling weird again same symptoms as when had anaemia previously, so bit of a shock there. Got to go and have the awful glucose tolerance test on Weds at 8.30am, anyone had one? Is the stuff you drink really awful?
Also urine sample they sent off is showing low grade infection, so need that repeating.

Bollocks.

FoofFighter · 21/01/2013 13:07

11 weeks tomorrow btw.
