Antenatal classes for second pregnancy??

Hi we booked for ante natal classes with our first.....we heard so many good things about NCT and we couldnt wait- i booked with them as soon as i found out i was pregnant.

However our son was born very premature (three weeks before our classes were to start- he came 13 weeks early) and we spent long time in NICU

So now we are with our second and i want to attend these classes but my DH feel it will no longer apply to us (we cant have a normal delivery and do the classes cover things like feeding ur baby through an NG tube??)- has anyone else attended for their second child and did they teach u anything new???

NCT do ones aimed at second time mums now not sure what they cover but you could have a look into it.

Some areas do NCT "refresher" classes for those who have had baby/babies before, although they're often just for women. You could also do any women-only classes such as yoga or aquanatal. You could both do a Natal Hypnotherapy workshop if there's one in your area. This helps you stay calm and relaxed through labour, even if it is medicalised. The calmer you are the more effectively you'll be breathing and that's got to be better for your baby because you'll be passing as much oxygen to him/her as possible, helping him/her to cope as well as possible with the contractions. Arguably you could say it's even more important to do this if your baby is being born very early! It depends what you want really. NH could be great if you want to focus on coping well with labour. If you want to learn about breastfeeding a newborn/baby in SCBU then you can contact NCT breastfeeding counsellors on the phone and have a chat.

to be honest, they dont really teach anything new to a first time parent (except one couple in the class, who were mind bogglingly stupid..) and are more about meeting 'like minded' pregnant couples. a friend of mine did the refresher (which i think is women only) which she has found helpful as the other women's older children are all a bit older than her son so have had useful tips on toddler tants - but obviously that doesnt apply to you. to be honest, if i were you i would pocket the not-insignificant cash and treat yourself to a weekend away! i konw it's been a while since your first child, and that your start to parenting was a bit out of the ordinary the first time round, but you will be fine, it's really pretty easy with a full term newborn (i hope this is what you have) and you meet tonnes of nice local women at childrens centres, babygroups and so on.
