I've had a search and there are a few previous threads in the pregnancy section about this, but thought it would be nice to have ante natal club for us generously proportioned preggos Grin

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving my due in... club thread, but would like to talk about things like maternity clothes, water birth possibilities and epidural issues with other ladies like me.

So come and say hi, take a seat, and be ready to hold hands when the midwives start making us feel bad for something that is, for the time being, unable to be changed.

Hi pudz!
Sorry for lack of replies, it seems like the message boards quieter down lots over summer. I'm also size 18-20 (currently 17 weeks) and now think I need maternity leggings - my normal leggings feel like they're cutting my bump in half! I'd never have thought of looking in eBay so thanks for the tip :) What I do like about being podgily pregnant is being able to hide it for longer - no-one has guessed yet and I think if I look a bit bigger, judgemental people who like to comment will think it's holiday weight tee hee!
Anyway hope all is still going well for you xx

quieten hmph to autocorrect second guessing me!

Maternity jeans that stay up are like hen's teeth. I still haven't managed to find any that work.

Lora1982 · 08/09/2012 13:09

i wear 18 trousers or 16 in leggings. ive lived in leggings so far but was like a kid in a sweet shop when i tried on maternity jeans in asda of all places.. then th band ripped first wear but alls good they replaced them... I CAN WEAR JEANS WOOOO

FriendofDorothy · 08/09/2012 17:56

The Asda I went to didn't stock maternity clothes which was so annoying!

LoisLame · 08/09/2012 23:22

FriendofDorothy you could order asda maternity jeans online and have them delivered to your local store for free. I ordered a pair from BonPrix which are really good. Thick denim and the waist band is adjustable at the top and bottom of the bump iyswim so should be good for staying up. There are 25% off and free delivery codes too so less that £23 when you factor that in.

I've had a lovely leaflet from the hospital's aneasthesia department this week telling me of all the things I'm more at risk of by being overweight. It also advises that I should have an epidural put in as soon as I get to hospital in labour becuase it may be difficult having such a high BMI.

Got my 16wk midwife appointment tomorrow and I'm now stressing that she won't find the heartbeat through all the fat Sad

i got that leaflet at my booking in. she still asked if i wanted a home birth though so i cant be that at risk.

she should be able to find the heartbeat she presses the thing in right near your pube line and theres hardly any fat there.

on a plus note the scans have given me a new word for fat... they call it maternal habitus :-D

Hi all I'm so glad someone else has started this thread because I have been really down and embarrassed about my weight especially at the moment.

I'm 14+3 pg, 5ft 4 and size 20/24 Blush

I had to have an emergency section with DS and due to my weight I have been advised by my consultant to have an ELCS mainly because they don't do epidurals here, just spinal blocks which would take ages to kick in with my BMI. A but gutted as I really wanted to avoid another but heyho its just an hour or so of DC2 life :(:)

I'm considering starting slimming world next week on the pregnancy plan which just aims to maintain rather than lose weight as I was going to start before I found out I was PG.

FriendofDorothy · 09/09/2012 09:30

They've had no problem finding heartbeat on me and I am an 18-20 - i think it depend son how good the midwife is!

LoisLame · 09/09/2012 10:45

Well my midwife is bigger than me so at least she has some sensitivity about it :)
