40, pregnant and happy....... What a rebel!

Anyone else wanting to celebrate being an older mum and laugh away others' judgemental comments such as my personal favourite of the week, " Do you know that when your child is twenty you'll be sixy?"

What I wish I'd replied #1 " yeah, I aim to take early retirement so when they go to uni/work I'm going to get a round the world ticket to all the countries I still want to visit!

What I wish I'd replied #2 "Wow you can do basic math!"

All I actually managed was a sarcastic "no?". hey ho!

Congratulations!! I was pg at 40, my DD turned 1 last month and I'm holding up ok against the younger mums. There's more of us elderly first timers around than you'd think - enjoy! Smile

Congratulations! I had my son at 39 and had a great pregnancy. Guaranteed the doom mongers are also whinging about '"feckless" young mums too. Ignore and enjoy.

i'm 43, will be 44 when my little bean is born. Long way to go as am only 6 weeks but i know more than a few women who have healthy babies in their 40s. I'm not worried about my own health as am very fit.

Congratulations from one who has been there and done that and loved it...............twice :)

40 and 43 when DD and DS were born. Super-duper easy pregnancies and births and now enjoying the run-up to my 50th birthday next year with a soon-to-be 9 year old and a 6 year old in tow. Chocolate cake WILL be involved.

Work on those answers, you may need them but there are lots of us out here having a ball :o

Hi All, Congratulations too and thank you, so nice to hear positive stories rather than listening to "the doom mongers" ( madammoose I love that phrase!)
At 18 weeks and having just had a good anatomy scan I am really rather enjoying being pregnant again (had DD at 38), especially as I'm on holiday for Xmas so don't need to hide the bump. Letting it all hang out at last! Oh and no more morning sickness ... double result!

hi all 7 weeks and 41 years old, have 2 older children, but this feels like first time again, only difference this time around is all the tests needed, any advice please as trying not to worry but easier said than done

I'm 40 and 6 weeks with dc4.

Couldn't give a stuff what anyone says about "older mothers". Although I am finding the sickness with 3 dc around pretty tough.

Having said all that, I won't be telling people until after my anomaly scan. Pushing my luck there as I might be quite big but just don't want to have to explain myself to anyone in RL should there be any problems with the baby.

My mum was 41 when she had me! And she still keeps up with me....i am now 23. She is such a brilliant mum! No need to worry about being an older mum, its more normal now than when it was when i was born. x

40 when had first and only child- pregnancy a breeze - parenthood fine feel a lot calmer than some other younger mothers- although now some mistake me for grannie in the playground (often would be more than possible to be as well) but you'll be surprised by how many older mothers there are

I am 42 in August and expecting my 3rd in 5 weeks time after a gap of 12 years! Totally unplanned and unexpected but must admit I have felt fab in myself right the way through and have had loads more energy this time than with either of the other two. I did suffer with normal pregnancy stuff and it's a case of never again but have enjoyed it.

I am much more excited about this one than the last two for some reason. Aot more laid back, secure and looking forward to it. I am nervous about the sleepless nights and possible PND which I had last time but hey ho I am more confident of coping with it this time.

And I get 39 weeks paid to stay at home with my baby. Last time I had 18 weeks and a paltry £40 per week!

Hi. Congratulations everyone. I have just found out I am pregnant after a 6 year gap. (44) Not planned but I am thrilled but aprenhensive. Haven't even told dh yet as I know he won't be pleased.
Definately going to keep baby though.
Deardear how did your partner react?

I think it was the novelist Angela Carter who said 'no one should have a baby until they are in their forties'. I often think of that when I hear people saying stupid and nasty things about older mothers.

I had mine at 41 and 44 and now, with my fiftieth birthday tomorrow, will be celebrating it with my lovely 9 and 6 yo boys. (Yes, chocolate cake will be involved here too.) My life has been blessed by them and I'm incredibly grateful they are here. My age is of no importance beside the fact that they exist.

I'm 25 weeks and 41 too. I'm happy about this and where I live (london) I'm not considered old really!

I feel alright although slightly concerned that I'll be pushing 60 when this one leaves home! (but my mortgage ensures I'll be working until I die anyway).

I had DS aged 43 and am expecting another DC next month (age 47). I was very worried that everything would turn out alright, especially as I had 3 miscarriages the year before DS was born, but he is gorgeous and I have felt relatively reassured this time around by the various non-invasive investigations I have had.

I feel very, very lucky to have my wonderful little boy and also to have this second chance at motherhood.

I am 41 and almost 30 weeks pregnant with number 4 after a 16 yr gap.

I had my first son when I was 19 and unmarried and to be honest there was so much stigma attached to be a young unmarried mother then it ruined my experience. I didnt attend antenatal classes or get involved with groups for support and so ended up very isolated. My eldest is now 22.

I have experienced some odd responses to my being pregnant but to be honest i feel more mentally and physically equipped to bring this baby into the world than I did with my others. I think the funniest is the 'double take' look in the street ....face bump face again then quickly look away lol !! I feel I am healthier than I was 20 yrs ago, much more intune with my body and so much more sure of my needs and how I want to bring my child up. My GP was very supportive as she had had her last child at almost 48

My new partner hasnt got any children also I have 3 sons and this is a little girl so it is such a special and wanted pregnancy ......plus she will have 3 very loving and protective brothers :) We cant wait

Hello everybody, and a big hello to you, beattiebow!!!! (waves).

I'm 40 and have just found out i'm pregnant. The joy!! I had been TTC for two months and we are over the moon that this has happened so quickly for us. This will be my first baby and i'm so excited i can hardly breathe....

beattie have you found out the sex of your baby yet?

Hi,

I just wanted to put another perspective on this. I'm 33 and 39 weeks pregnant with my first (and sometimes treated geriatric..which is insane I know!) and I very much agree with an earlier post that 40 is young. My Mum is in her 70's and I don't consider her old...age is very much, in my opinion, a lot to do with your mental attitude as it is your physical being. Unlike my mil who is early 50's and puts on a lot of disapproving cats bum faces because we dare to have an opinion or do things our own way....but that's another moan for another day Grin

My Mum was 38, Dad 39 when I arrived and having what was considered "older" parents was great....I couldn't of had a better childhood. There are so many advantages of being an older parent, from the parents point of view and from the childs. I've never had a wildly exciting outgoing life (and I'm happy with that) but I feel I'll be a much better parent now than I would of been in my 20's, maybe just purely because I know myself better now...DH and I are totally prepared now to give up things and embrace a new lifestyle with our baby. It's taken a long (years) time to TTC anyway so that could of easily of happened for us much later than now.

Congratulations to all of you older Grin ladies....sarcasm has served me well and I hope it will for you all responding to less that positive attitudes.
