Hello, I am due to give birth to my first child on 24th March, and with no family near by I am worried about becoming isolated when my husband returns to work. I am looking for a group near my home that meets regularly so once baby is born I can have some adult contact and share experiences etc. I have looked on the NCT website but my local group (Harigey)doesn't seem to have many events (or if they do there is no info on them). Can anyone help?/does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Hi :)

I dont know if its too far for you but north islington childrens centre is really nice, its a smaller centre so more of a friendly welcoming feel to it than some of the others? they do have a under 1's baby group on monday mornings 10am and also a new parents group for newborns which is referred by health visitors but i dunno much details of that one.

they run another thing probably a bit nearer to you (near crouch hill station), which is just a babies and toddlers type group so not so much for just the newborns although young babies can still go, and it is nice and friendly. that one is hanley rd community association tues wed and thurs 10am

sorry i dont know anything nearer than that but its not tooo far i dont think, so if you do find yourself still looking for somewhere you could give those a try. hopefully someone will tell you somethings a bit nearer too. if you have libraries or any other childrens centre near your house try them, they will have rhyme time type things on and various stay and plays, and you will be able to meet local people

Try the Campsbourne Children's Centre - they have a lovely drop-in on Thursdays for parents and babies up to 9 months. Can't quite remember the time (been a while since I was there) but you should be able to pop in and get a timetable. The Stonecroft Children's Centre is also lovely. I've also heard that Highgate CC is lovely, but not been there myself. The Children's Centres often run things like baby massage courses if you want to try and book on them.

The Haringey NCT website does have quite a good list of what's on - see here. I personally love the Stroud Green NCT email list - it advertises lots of local NCT teas and events in my immediate Stroud Green area. You could contact your local Crouch End organisers to see if they have something similar - their email address is crouchend [at] haringeynct.org.

There are also singing sessions at Hornsery Library in Crouch End, though I prefer the ones at Stroud Green Library (which is not too far away). Once you start going regularly you'll start to get to know some other mums.

Try posting this in Mumsnet local too :)

Yes, definitely check out the Campsbourne centre. Also ask the health visitors - they may have a list of baby groups and activities.

I know that the Crouch End NCT used to organise regular coffee mornings so it is worth emailing them directly - it may not have appeared on the website.

And there are other groups you can join with a newborn such as baby yoga, baby massage etc - try the Hornsey Vale Community Centre and the Haringey Club.
