Hi all,

Thought that us Oct due ladies could have a thread for us to put down all our birth experiences in one place.

Due dates vs arrival dates & how did the birth go?

Due Date: 7th October 05
Arrival date: 26th September by c-section. Little boy, Joseph, born at 11.38am weighing in at 7Ib 15oz.
Birth Experience: elective section due to prolapsed spinal disc. All very calm and chilled, spinal block which dropped my blood pressure initially but was quickly resolved with IV fluids just in time to see my son lifted out (from first incision to time of birth- 6 minutes!!!), with a loud cry (best sound in the world!). Back sore but not totally unbearable, scar healing well. Home as of 12pm yesterday. Breast feeding going very well, and on the whole he is sleeping well with just one feed through the night. Tired but happy - I love being a mum, and would do it all again in an instant

Was due a homebirth but unfortunately had not had the home appointment with the community m/w so when I went into labour Saturday morning, 9.30ish) I knew I would have to go into hospital. Didn't really decided until about 2pm ish that this was the real McCoy. Had never had Braxton Hicks before and wondered if what I was feeling was that and not the real thing as they were very erratic and not that painful all morning. At 2pm I timed them and they seemed to be every 8 minutes or so, one strongish one followed by a very weak one. So called parents and set off to hopspital at 4pm. Very disappointed with hospital experience. One of the reasons I wanted a homebirth was because I wanted to move around in labour, deliver on all fours, and with my previous births I'd been flat on my back with efm throughout. Guess what happened this time. Did the initial heart trace and it wasn't as good as they wanted so I'm flat on my back again with efm. Horrible midwife and obstetricians too, kept telling me I had to have this, that and the other, and I said no I don't "I'm not having it" in best petulant voice. Gas and air was as usual a life saver. Really not too bad, 1 stitch only too, just not the nice relaxing (!?) experience I was hoping for.

Due date: 6th October 05
Arrived 28th August at 9.33pm
Weight: 5lbs 1oz

I was still at work wrapping up with 4 more days to go.... and on the Monday night dragged my DH to the hospital to do a tour so that we knew where to go in 6 weeks time.... little did I know that 8 hours later I would be there! My waters broke at 4am and so had to go to the hospital where they then told me that I would have to stay put! Help - hadn't done any shopping as was planning that for my maternity leave the following week.... DH was a star and did it all including disposable pants and pads!!!

They then told me that they were going to induce me on Thursday as the bump would have been 34 weeks exactly on that day... however, it was a very busy time at the hospital and I also had to wait for a cot in the neo natal unit as well as a bed in the delivery suite.... so I waited until Sunday for both to be free! Was induced in the morning but was given an emergency c/section in the evening as bump wasn't happy - his heart beat was dropping with every contraction..... so William Nicholas John was born at 9.33pm on Sunday night and is absolutley perfect! Luckily he didn't have to stay in the neo natal unit but visited it 3 times a day, but could stay with me instead. He's 5 lbs 1 oz which is a great size for his age and there doesn't seem to be any problems with him coming out so early. I am now home and am into a 3 hourly feeding routine already. Luckily he is an angel and sleeps all the time he isnt' eating! Am over the moon and so happy!

not due at the mo but thought I would add my experiences any way. Both dd's came on time - dd1 due April 27th was born on April 26th at 9.52pm (only a few hour early) and dd2 due April 28th (my date may 1st Hospital date) born April 28th 9.38 pm. I'm never late for anything (1 hour early at registry for my own wedding)

Due date by LMP: 7 Oct
Due date by Scan: 2 Oct
Born on: 12 Oct

Baby Josie, 8lb 8oz, delivered in hippy-style birthing pool - would have been lovely if she didn't have to come out of my vagina at the end.

Second degree tear, refused stitches. Midwife care excellent.

I had a birth ball from the active birth centre and gave birth leaning over it. It was brilliant, allowing me to rock and rest when I needed and the midwives to help dd come out gently. Pushed/panted for six contractions and she was out.
