One week late and gorgeous as hell, Caspar Glyn arrived at 1.22am on Monday morning. Planned waterbirth at home went really well, will do longer birth report for those interested later. Other ds, now promoted to ds1 , and dd both very sweet with their new baby brother. Right, off to have some more cake (well, I am breastfeeding....)

Okay - here are the gory details for anyone interested:

Felt some twinges at about 9.30pm on Sunday night, but nothing regular. Went to bed at 10.30 feeling that this was probably it and by 11pm it was obvious that things were underway. Got up and called the midwife while dh set the room up, put the tens machine on me and started filling the pool.

Midwives arrived about an hour later by which time the contractions were getting much stronger. After one very strong one my waters broke and I decided it was time to get in the pool. The warm water helped a lot and things speeded up and very soon I was ready to push. Lots of gentle encouragement from the midwives and Ru helped me stay calm during pushing (it was during 2nd stage that my previous two deliveries had got into problems, so I was very nervous of it). Caspar was born at 1.22am on Monday morning, on my hands and knees in the water. I was able to reach down and bring him to the surface myself and then sit with him in the water for a bit before getting out to deliver the placenta. He was very alert but totally quiet, just looking around and taking it all in. All very smooth and textbook ? just over 4 hours from first twinge to everything finished. A really amazing experience, made even better by the fact that I could get into my own quiet bed with a nice cup of tea and a muffin!

After an emergency c-section with ds and then a vbac with ventouse assistance for dd, I feel very happy and lucky to have had things go so well.

Things are going okay here, pretty exhausting, but at least I know that will come to an end (the benefit of having other children!). So come on other August mums - let's get going and have some more babies!

Eulalia · 12/08/2005 09:20

wilbur - what a fantastic birth. Am v jealous of your home birth However sounds like you had your fair share of difficulites beforehand. I was the other way round - 2 easy births and then this last one with the problems. At the end of the day is worth it though
