Hobbgobblin's little miracle is here aided by the loving support given by so many but especially Shinypinkshoes, my birth partner

Well, after changing my mind about a TOP back in December, those of you who remember...

My baby girl was born today against all the odds weighing 7lb 8oz and after a 35 hour labour.

No name as yet.

She is my 4th baby and her birth was hideous to be frank.

Booked for a home birth but we went 14 days overdue with ectopic heart beats discovered at routine post dates scan at the weekend.

Induction being virtually being forced on me and took a lot of will power to resist and give her a chance.

Cut to Tuesday when I gave in and had induction booked which I turned up to, only yo change my mind. Then Wednesday when I was all set with Shiney to be induced only to find that birthing partner could not attend after 9pm unless active labour had begun. Didn't want to birth alone and also wanted still to be a t home so came home fuming. That night contractions began...Finally.

Come 3am labour was really happening so Iphoned ahead to community midwife so she would be warned of the need to come out to me soon. Previous birth were 17 hours, 4 hours and 1 hour!

At around 8am two midwives arrived and then stayed with me for the birth except good strong and frequent contractions started to tail around lunchtime and by now I'd been on TeNs with contractions for around 12 hrs.

At this point I was transferred by Ambulance to Watford General (long story) hitting a bus on the way despite blue lights! Had shiney with me but tired and despondent by this point as induction loomed.

Was still reluctant to have ARM or Stretch and sweep in hospital so carried on with walking and birthing ball using TeNs for some time to no avail. finally agreed to stretch and sweep which produced dilation to about 4cm -whoppee doo!

Hold on more to add...but sore hand

I'm going to have to keep posting aren't I so I don't loose the thread because you're going to use every excuse in the book to not bother filling us in

Enjoy your 4th, mine was truly easy mind you so was her birth.........(had a few hideous ones the other times though!)

StealthPolarBear · 26/07/2009 19:07

Congratulations
And well done to shiney!

StealthPolarBear · 26/07/2009 19:07

err and well done to the OP too as I think she maybe had to do some of the work

cornsillk · 26/07/2009 19:10

congratulations

hunkermunker · 26/07/2009 19:14

Congratulations, HG! Ambulance hitting a bus is one to tell her when she's older!

Glad you had the lovely SPS with you.

What names are you considering?

Ohforfoxsake · 26/07/2009 19:18

Many congratulations! I've followed your story and am genuinely delighted for you.

cyteen · 26/07/2009 19:25

Huge congratulations hobb, another one who has followed your story and is genuinely moved by this wonderful outcome. Your baby girl being here is a true miracle, and for a non-religious type like me that's rather cocklewarming to know.

JackBauer · 26/07/2009 19:34

Massive, huge congratulations added from here too Hobb, am so pleased everything has resulted in a squidgy new baby! Congrats!

PortBlacksandResident · 26/07/2009 19:40

still waiting

Northernlurker · 28/07/2009 18:02

Has she not been back? Typical fourth time mum eh? Too busy cooing over over baby to do the decent thing...

mrsdisorganised · 28/07/2009 18:06

Congratulations, have thought of you often and am really pleased you eventually had your little one! Very dramatic story for her when she's older though! Enjoy

hobbgoblin · 28/07/2009 23:12

Rrrgh!

I am struggling to complete this as it was all so horible I can't remember the order of stuff.

Essentially, I struggled on with Tens machine and no gas and air because they wouldn't allow me to have it until on the delivery ward proper and for that I had to be 4cm plus dilated.

Eventually made it up to ward, by this time with scalp clips attached to baby and stuck to bloody machine waaaay too much for my liking.

Had spurts of really good contractions but kept dying away so eventually opted for epidural against my every wish and desire as was exhausted and knew Syntocinon was next.

Epidural was horrendous, even the Canula failed and was sprayed horrendously with blood as they pierced through the opposite end of my vein - bed covered, midwife covered and my hands were dripping with congealed blood. At this point I figured nothing was going to go right and this was my punishment for the decision to terminate. Either I wasn't going to come out alive, the baby wasn't or neither of us were. Started to regret not telling DC something nice that morning or leaving them a note to say I loved them.

The epidural was a success until I reacted to the second drug they used - I had a total block, no idea why. So I had convulsions for the next hour which was terrifying along with complete lower paralysis plus a catheter they didn't tell me would be necessary.

Next thing was that started to get major decelerations of baby's heartbeat - down to 40 bpm. Then heart monitor went silent and crash section called, alarms going off and 7 or 8 doctors arriving and starting to cart me off to theatre.
