For those of you who don't know already Alexander Oliver was born by Caesarian Section 15th April 2008 at 14:43.

I originally wanted a VBAC after having DD premature and an emergency caesarian and a forced elective CS with DS but it seems that wasn't the way it was meant to happen!

After pushing my consultant and her team for another 3 weeks to get an elective date of 41weeks rather than 38weeks after an abnormal doppler scan showed poor placental blood flow we went in on Tuesday morning.

I had a few wobbles and very nearly came home after sobbing a lot but eventually decided it was time for us to meet out baby and went down to theatre at about 2pm.

The Anaesthetists were wonderful, and made me feel so much calmer, they knew how desperate I was not to have surgery again and really eased my fears, I swear they had wings under their scrubs.

We had decided Dad was to sex the baby and the nurses made sure that no-one would mention anything before we had the chance to see for ourselves. After a bti of tugging and pulling the screen came down and DP watched them pull Alex out, announcing he was a boy.

Immediate skin-to-skin for a good fifteen minutes whilst they sewed me up and Dad tried to pretend not to cry There was talk of how big he was but he wasn't weighed immediately so we were in for quite a shock when they told us he was 10lb 3oz! So much for the placenta not doing it's job properly!

Back on the ward one of the midwives came in and put him straight to the breast which he took wonderfully and Dad and I sobbed a bit more

All-in-all it wasn't the horrific experience I had with DS1 and I owe that to the wonderful team I had looking after me, not only can I say this birth was positive it's laid to rest a lot of the ghosts I still had and for that I'll be ever thankful, now it's time to go and gaze adoringly a little bit more and use the excuse of getting feeding established to be bought tea and biscuits in bed for at least another week
