Waiting4Bambino's wait is over!!

Hi all, finally I can say I'm a mother!! Phoebe was born on the 5th March, 5 days late, by emergency c section, after a failed induction.
I won't lie to you! It was bloody horrific! But she's worth it! Here's what happened:
went for what i thought was a chat with a consultant on the Monday, as Phoebe had shown as a big baby and they were concerned that she was bigger than my dates etc. She gave me a sweep there and then, which was so agonising i was writhing up the bed and almost crying, and there and then, my waters broke. They sent us home, saying that i may go into labour naturally overnight. Well, after much tossing and turning, nothing happened! The following morning we had to return to the hospital, and at 8am i was given Prostin etc, waited the 6 hours, and again, nothing happened, so had to repeat this process. Both internals were agonising i might add! Finally then, after my husband had gone home, at 4 in the morning, i felt as if the contractions were starting, and so had a nice warm bath and they gave me paracetamol! Paracetamol!! That doesnt even get rid of my headaches!!
Anyway, the pains were quite bearable, so when the docs came round again in the morning, they examined me once again and said that nothing had happened, and to go to the delivery suite to be started on the drip. Midwife broke my hind waters (what a mess!!) and then i was hooked up to the drip. Well, i had every pain relief available!! Started with gas and air, went a few hours, then had pethidine, few hours went by again, and then had epidural, plus top up a few hours later! After much poking and prodding around down there, 17 hours later, they said that i was still only 5cm, and that nothing was progressing, I was so hanging at this point, they decided to operate as the baby's heartbeat was dropping with each contraction with the drip at its maximum effect. So, I had the c section, which was wonderful compared to what i had imagined, and out came Phoebe at 9lb 7oz!! The cord was around her neck and her head coming in the wrong position too, so there was no way she was coming out down there!
She's now blissfully sleeping in her moses basket, and i am recovering, just have a bad back and severe constipation!! Apart from that, everything is amazing!

Congratulations on the arrival of Phoebe.

Have you tried drinking lots of oj for the constipation?

waiting4bambino · 17/03/2008 20:28

Yes, but the only thing shifting it at the moment is a slight overdose on Exlax!! I'm quite surprised at how like normal chocolate it tastes! The matter is made worse by some piles!! Feels like pooing razor blades!

Sounds like fun {hmm] poor you.

Are you still on the painkillers? They can cause constipation.

waiting4bambino · 17/03/2008 20:37

Yes, but I'm going to stop taking the Co-Codamol as apparently it can be caused by them, and switch to paracetamol. Hopefully it will go soon! It's worse than anything i went through in hospital! I keep thinking i'm gonna pop my inner sewing with all the pushing!!

God that sounds awful. Other people on here have complained about constipation after a cs. Luckily I escaped it.

Look after yourself and your new lo xx

Congratulations W4B!
I promise you'll have forgotten the pain in 9 months!
