Thanks to all on my thread last night. At nine o'clock I had a proper owee contraction, my neighbour took me to the midwife centre and Dh met me there. When I got there I was 5cm dilated and shouting 'ow, it hurts' over and over again. The pools were waiting to be cleaned so I had about an hour on a bed with the entonox, surely the best invention ever, and then I got in the pool which was heavenly. After a couple of hours ("I can't do this" etc etc) I went into the second stage, jsut as the gas and air ran out. I shouted a lot and then stopped shouting so much and the midwives kept lying and telling me I was nearly there when in fact I was doing a poo, but they didn't tell me that. Then I pushed out the head in three contractions while on my knees and the rest in another and my son was born and pushed up between my legs to my chest. I sat in the water for about ten minutes holding him to my chest and then I got out and delivered the placenta without an injection while I tried to breastfeed, but I don't think he got much at all at this stage. Then we went back to my room and basically chilled with lots of skin to skin. After a while I went off to get stitched up (three labial grazes and a small second degree perineal tear) and then I was back in my room. Twelve hours later we are home! He's been feeding a bit, I know he's had some down because he sicked some up. And he's done two glorious green poos.
That's the short version, anyway.

Congratulations bellabear

BellaBear · 20/01/2008 20:55

Thank you! We are a bit worried today at the mw came and Seth isn't feeding from me (he doesn't seem to be able to suck properly) and he is a bit jaundiced. So I have done three feeds expressing milk and feeding him from a bottle which I am a bit stressed about but also happy that he is getting some liquid and food now. There certainly isn't a lack of milk from me!

Awww Bella, he is gorgeous You and Mr Bear must be sooo proud

Have you been given the number for a BFC? If not ask for one, I had no problems with feeding DS2 but I know if I had have done she would have been there like a shot for me.

Don't worry too much about the jaundice, I think it is something like 1 in 3 babies who get it, DS1 didn't but DS2 did, we just kept him by the window for as much as possible

I hope you are all settling down a bit, and things are starting to become normalised Enjoy him

BellaBear · 21/01/2008 16:49

Well that's good, at least you're not having to cope alone

So what's it like being a mummy?

BellaBear · 21/01/2008 17:13

that really hasn't sunk in yet!

i'm typing one handed as seth is asleep on my chest - i'm trying to up our bonding time as he is missing out on the bf

Awwww I still love that name, have added it to my list!!!

What does the midwife/BFC said about the not sucking thing? I have BF both of mine but I am still no expert, is it something he will learn?

PinkMartini · 21/01/2008 17:18

Blast from the past - huge congrats Bella!

Hope you're enjoying it! I'm due in 9 weeks.

hana flower - we picked the name after seeing Seth Lakeman live!

pink! helllo! good luck! pack your bag early, and get things sorted now, we were somewhat taken by surprise!

nj i started a thread about it - he CAN suck, just not on me, so that is the thing to sort out. (seth isn't a very popular name in this country and i have never taught one, part of the appeal)

Good luck PinkMartini

Good grief time flies... congratulations! He is an absolute heartbreaker. Seth is a fantastic name, it was on our shortlist until we knew we were expecting a girl.
