Toots really rather fine vbac

dd2 has arrived three days early (dd1 16days late) and 7lbs 4 (dd1 9lbs 6oz).

Ten hour labour. Started 1.30. Got to hospital at eight. Spent two hours standing in the labour ward corridor waiting for a room, holding on to my pillow and my tens machine with my head hanging low like an uncollected evacuee. But it was fine, because you've got to be somewhere and just 'be' ain'tcha? Had been mostly standing on my landing the two previous hours, so same old same old really. Got on ruddy monitor and midwife all gloomy as looked like cord round neck from heartbeat. Started muttering about doctors and breaking waters - she was expecting me to be about 5cms. But I was FULLY DILATED on first exam (do WHAT?) so then she started talking about putting out the baby's clothes to warm, and everything looked rather fab. BUT I had no bearing down urges at all. Had to do ALL the pushing myself. second stage an hour and a half - first half (look away the squeamish) was spent having to give birth to a poo which was somewhat disheartening - It was like having twins - one the VERY ugly sister. Anyway, had an episiotomy (surprisingly OK) and pushed her out at twenty to midnight. Stitching vile, but got stuck into gas and air to extent where I made the midwife sing 'Oh lord, Kumbabya' with me. DP already doing an impression of this. Not proud. But very happy.

Congratulations! Sounds like fantastic experience (apart from waiting and gloomy midwife). "Kumbaya" rendition the icing on the cake for the birth story - very funny! .

Toots · 08/10/2004 07:34

Tell you what Mears, doesn't feel like a bit of a laugh in the end this morning - yoweee. Sitting on one buttock.

Excellent birth story toots, don't think I read one as funny as this since I've been on MN.

I have visions of a rather un-amused MW singing along with you. I bet your DH was cracking up.

Congratulations and welcome to tiny toots

p.s. you still didn't give us her name but with the one buttock typing that can be forgiven.....for now

Toots · 08/10/2004 19:35

OK, embarrassing stuff with the name. First version has been withdrawn but not before grandparents had informed people who are now in the process of sending cards to some other baby. This baby is Mel - short for Melissa. DD1 prefers Mesilla.

miffy2 · 20/10/2004 17:18

way to go Toots! Another mooselet has arrived.
Know what you mean about the 'surprise' birth bit. That happened me on my DS, this time I am debating whether to go into labour hungry (but with empty bowel) or to risk the 'ugly sister' syndrome.

Anyway enjoy your new addition...

Nimme · 20/10/2004 17:45

Congratulations Toots.

How nice to hear a happy VBAC story.
