Baby Eve was born by emergency section at 22.28pm on 30th August. As some people know I was diagnosed with a tumour during pregnancy and so had been hanging on in bad pain as long as possible to give her fighting chance. Anyway the time came at 34 weeks and she was 5lbs 6ozs at birth alhough has lost some since. Anyone who'd be able to offer any suport with feding problems of prem babies (ie v v slow to take the breast!!)and prem babies generally much appreciated. Next stop - get this tumour out and hang around for Eve getting big and strong xxx

Congratulations!

No helpful advice either but I beleive that breastmilk and breastfeeding if you can manage it is particularly good for preemies - both from a nutritional and body contact point of view.

Good luck!

cazzybabs · 06/09/2004 18:51

Congratulations - no advice ecxept my friend had a premature baby and said breastfeeding was really hard. So lots of good luck - am sure someone will be able to offer advice soon.

motherinferior · 06/09/2004 19:02

Allyco, like so many others I have been thinking of you. That's a great size (more than I weighed full term!) and well done you. I do hope the next few weeks go as well as possible.

Hulababy · 06/09/2004 19:07

Congratulations and welcome to Eve :)

geogteach · 06/09/2004 19:09

Congratulations - the first baby from the October thread, we're all thinking of you.

clairabelle · 06/09/2004 20:03

Congratulations hope all goes well for you both now

wellsie · 06/09/2004 20:11

Well done Allyco and welcome baby Eve (love that name!)
Hope you're feeling ok, sorry no advice here about prem babies but I'm sure someone will be along to reassure. If it helps, DS was very slow on the uptake when it came to breastfeeding but we persevered and then it all clicked - good luck and only keep trying if you're happy to and not because everyone is expecting you to.

Congratulations, Allyco. What a wonderful mother you are to your little girl

My dd was early (35+5) and had probs breastfeeding - she was so sleepy and reluctant to latch on. My only advice is to get the bf counsellor to help and persevere. I gave up after a month of trying. Wish I'd kept on a bit longer.
All the best to you and yours. Dinny x

Congratulations Allyco - haven't read your posts before so do not know your story. Hope you will progress well now and welcome to your little daughter. I fed a prem baby (35 weeks) but he was ventilated for a week so by the time he got to the breast I had stimulated my supply with a breastpump. Get to know your breastpump regularly and you will get on fine. Keep us infromed of your progess. Best wishes, mears.

Congratulations Allyco and welcome to Eve. A friend of mine had her ds at 36 weeks and he had problems b/feeding. He underwent physio (amazingly) and is sucking away like mad now.

Good luck and congratulations again!

Allyco, you've already done such a fantastic job, well done . Hope you're more comfortable soon. Welcome little Eve! Will continue to hold you in my thoughts, you're a star.

suedonim · 07/09/2004 13:40

Congratulations - little Eve is bigger than my friend's full term baby!! Very best wishes to you and your family for the future.

woodpops · 07/09/2004 16:56

Congratulations. Ds loves the name Eve, it's his girlfriend at nursery.

I thought prem babies could drink from a cup. Mad imagies of little babies with a cuppa spring to mind. Express into a little cup and the babies lap it up a little like a kitten. Keep trying with breastfeeding, it'll come. Good luck!!

Jodiesmum · 07/09/2004 17:18

Congratulations Allyco, you must have had a really worrying time and it's great your little one has come out such a good way. My dd2 was born at 31 wks and had loads of problems feeding - couldnt take milk at all for 7 weeks unfortunately so had to be fed intravenously all this time. Iwas determined to breast feed and managed to keep expressing the whole time although it was one of the worst experiences of my life, not knowing if she was going to be OK. My milk supply did get really low as the weeks went on but once she did become able to feed it gradually got going again. Do let me know if you want more advice and I'll try to help.

Jodiesmum · 07/09/2004 17:19
