apologies firstly for the one handed typing still getting the hang of it.

thomas evan arrived at 22:22pm on 1st jan 2007. weighing in at 3.8kg(8lb 6oz)

after joking with my midwife that she might not need to come to do my sweep as something might happen over the weekend, i keptpopping up to hospital with various "complaints" ranging from high blood pressure (Sat)and suspected ruptured membranes(Sun).

As my waters might have gone, they asked me to come back on Monday morn for a medical induction (as opposed to the pinapple/sex/clarey sage variety) if labour hadn' started overnight.
I could hardly walk to the car as I start5ed having ctrx 5mins apart following the internal to check my cervix (still tightly shut and really far back)
I saw in the new year having ctrx 3mins apart and with my lovely ILs having just driven back to us from London(having had lunch with us earlier in day [blush} Bless them!

Then it all stopped. No more than the occassional twinge. No sleep as it was just too uncomfortable.

So we waddled off to hospital for 8am. Was offered breakfast before my labour was started(most bizarre to have the warning!)

given antibiotics to prevent GBS.(shouldn't have bothered with the test in the end)
Then put on the drip and labour kicked off about two and a half hours later.(Thought it was more a case of plug me in,WHAM,BANG,Labour, but really was more "normal" than that.)
I was active for most of my labour(even though on a drip, four hourly iv abs and mobile fetal monitor) and using aromatherapy(didn't get to be active in my first spontaneous labour three years ago)

until i started screaming for the drugs and then I was quite happy to be on a bed.
drugs didn't work however and once again i was the one in ten women who an epidural doesn't work for.Ouch. at this point i decided i didn't want a third child. and would be totally happy with my two boys.

ds2 got stuck as he was back to back(it's how i grow them)so after a hour and a half of pushing, i agreed to a forceps rather than keep pushing and wait to see if he came out.
as there was a risk of an emergency c, i was given a full spinal eidural(prob not the medical term) as my third attempt at epi had worked , and was wheeled into theatre.

Tom made his appearance shortly after having very easily spun around for the consultant.cheeky boy.he cameout chattering. head just born,he started gurgling and then we delivered his shoulders. most bizarre.

we were then dumped on a observation ward.the only bit of the experience that was actually regretful as noone thought to explain to me how long we were supposed to be there for and i had to ask them to do tom's observations (cos of the gbs risk) and i was left lying in the bloody t shirt i'd given birth in with my epidural bits and pieces still plugged in. i couldn't move cos of the epi.i also had to have another venflow put in my arm as i was still bleeding heavily and needed to be put on a drip again to stop it.(don't think a home birth is an option for me. i like to make things difficult.

we spent two days in hospital.one of them just trying to be discharged and we're back home now. despite a weight loss issue 9his not mine) we're happily settling into being a family of four.

he's well worth going into labour twice for and i've already decided i'm def having my third. dh is counting down the days till the six week check

spina · 08/01/2007 14:29

but ac, i am a bit of a drama queen anyway!was seriously thinking of a name change to dramaqueenbee in honour of my sole resposibility to be the girl in our family.
and our real surname starts with a b. but i've made lots of friends as spina so i'll have to wait a bit to change identity.
