Mr Spots here. The great news is that Spots gave birth at 4.40am today (14 May) to a 7lb 11oz baby girl, currently known as Baby Spots. Mother and baby both well. The inside story will follow early next week when they leave hospital - a bit of a stitch up was needed as some tearing ocurred, such was baby's enthusiasm to meet the parents!

Gawd, jsut got home today and feel quite addled... desparate to see who else has popped while I've been away but can't resist just updating this thread too...

She's called Laurie Meg. And is not a boy! Which was a surprise. But we're really, really happy with her and I don't know why I ever thought she might be a boy in the first place. Of COURSE she's Laurie....

Labour was only 8 hours in the end after waters broke 8.30 omn Thurs (just as I put down the spoon from post-sweep meal! ) Had to be kept in hosp. even tho only early labour after that. And dh had to go home because I wasn't far enough on. So I spent 3 hours of what turned out to be fairly established labour, by myself in dark room! which wasn't how I'd have chosen it to be, but weirdly felt quite ok at the time. Then a short spell in the bath by the end of which was making elephant noises. (I love how the midwives can tell how you're progressing by the noises you make!!) Elephant means, time to go downstairs to labour suite and phone husband to come back in.

So dh came back to me in full swing, no time to fill birthing pool... gas and air...an hour and a half of pushing and she was out! I really was v. noisy, lots of things surprised me about the experience and that not least! normally am such a quiet girl...

3rd degree tear meant the both spinal and diamoprphine were administered for stitches, ironically as I had managed without for delivery. And syntometrine for bleeding after natural 3rd stage too!

Fantastic hospital. Really good experience there.

DH just tells me tea ready... dammit... but prob. a good thing as I seem to be writing a lot, sorry sorry, it's all mad isn't it? must go, damn, damn, desparate to update myself. xxxx thank you so much for messages I really missed mumsnet in hosp!
