Pupuce has another DD...

A day late - but 3 hours after I had e-mailed a few friends to say that I didn't think labour would be for another week or so.... goes to show what I know - my labour started...
DH started inflating the pool at 3 AM, contractions started to be harder work at 4AM and at 6h30 we called for the MW. She was there by 7AM. She respected my wishes... a totally hands off birth.
So she listened to the baby's heart with a pinard (not a doppler), no vaginal examination... just let me get on with it (basically!)... My daughter was born at 9:24AM in the pool after a very good labour. My 7yo DS and 5yo DD stood in the staircase and watched. DS's comment "this was amazing"...
Had a physiological 3rd stage and baby breastfed like a trooper from birth (she better as I am a BF counsellor ).
She weighs 6lbs 12oz. She is very easy and we are all in love with her!

congratulations, pupuce, that sounds wonderful. Elsa is a beautiful name too.
Ahhh, the hands off birth sounds like my two home births with my wonderful IM - first one she only took my pulse (and then I gave birth 10 mins after she walked in, so not much time for anything else!) second time she just took my pulse every so often, listened with a trumpet thing once or twice, and that was it! She did need to remind me to pick my babies up from the pool both times though.... I'm sure you remembered to do that without prompting .

How long was your 3rd stage? mine were v long both times (2 hours and an hour and a half) but were very peaceful times getting to know the baby (and drinking champagne)...

well done, enjoy her xx

colette · 29/11/2006 17:52

Congratulations and welcome to Elsa

pupuce · 30/11/2006 17:49

Thank you everyone... Elsa is a darling!
PPH - my 3rd stage was 20 mins with my 2nd child but an hour with this one mainly as I chose to lye down for it... so after 1hour I stood up and it came quickly!
I have recovered extremly quickly from this birth too!
