For those of you who are interested, Prufrock gave birth to a little boy yesterday morning (27th April @ 8.52am) by cesearean. He weighed 8lbs and half an ounce and has been called Sebastian James. Both mother and baby are well.
Regards, Prufrock's Hubby.

Congrats prufrock, may you recover quickly and welcome Sebastian.

Janstar · 02/05/2004 12:08

8lbs and half an ounce! Isn't that just so sweet!

Huge congratulations!

Cam · 03/05/2004 12:23

I'm so pleased for you Prufrock, how super to have one of each now! Hope you will soon be home to tell us all about it!
Love and congratulations, Cam xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I can't believe I've been off Mumsnet for a whole week. Dh can't believe 78 "complete strangers" cared about his son's birth!

It was wonderful. Having the spinal block was a bit wierd, and made me throw up (which is incredibly difficult to do when you are numb from the chest down). The c-section itself was great, I got to see ds when they took him out (purple and screaming) and about 30 seconds later they'd wrapped him up andiven him to dh to hold by my head. I fed him in recovery, and from then on spent 4 nights being completely looked after. I can't believe what a difference it has made to my recovery this time around. I was up and walking into the shower the next morning, and by Thursday I was completely mobile. I haven't even had any painkillers since Friday.
Sebastian and I had baths in the huge birthing pool together (they suggested dh joined us but he didn't seem keen to get his kit off!), and he got massages every day. I was almost sorry to come home.

DS is a dream - I've only actually heard him cry 3 times so far. Last night he slept from 10-2, 2.30-6 and 6.30-8. He has already managed to "get" both me and dh with vertical pees - I'm not used to changing boys nappies . My boobs are the size of melons, but he manages to empty them regularly.

DD is being wonderful. She seems fascinated by him and keeps coming up to cuddle him really carefully. She did try to latch on to my other breast whilst he was feeding, but seems to have accepted that she has milk from a cup because she's a big girl. She also keeps on telling me that I am "Cesca's Mummy and Babin's Mummy

And to all those who kept me sane by telling me that it's easier afterwards then when heavily pregnant, thank you - you were so right.

Oh and Yes, the itching has spped completly, and LFT's are already almost back to normal levels.

Wow, it all sounds just perfect! Which hospital did you have him in?
Congratulations again!

prufrock · 03/05/2004 16:05

Hospital of St. John and St. Elizabeth.

Private or NHS??? The care sounds fantastic.

prufrock · 03/05/2004 19:56

Oh private - my insurance paid up becauseof complications - you're right, the care was fantastic. It's the main hospital of Yehudi Gordon, so most of the patients (only 10 rooms) are very into natural childbirth /waterirth /complementary stuff. Janet Balaskas has something to do with it as well. You get free weekly yoga sessions beforehand, counselling services, one on one midwife care (post natally that is - it's 2-1 during labour). Interestingly they charge £800 more for a maternal choice c-section than for a medically necessary one.

Aahh, Prufrock that all sounds lovely and I'm so pleased to hear the itching's stopped and you've been looked after well. It's so nice not being pregnant any more isn't it? Tell your DH that we're not complete strangers!

Bozza · 03/05/2004 21:37

Lovely update prufrock - I especially liked the line about it being easier afterwards than when heavily pregnant. Can't think why. Glad you are recovering so well.

What a great experience, so refreshing to hear, sounds like you are all thriving, congratultions

aloha · 04/05/2004 10:23

It all sounds just great. The hospital is quite a celeb hotspot you know - Gwyneth is apparently going to have her baby there too!

Marina · 04/05/2004 10:24

Oh, how lovely the whole experience sounds, Prufrock. I'm so pleased for you all! Good choice of hospital and very nice to hear they are as great with c-sections as they are with natural deliveries.

serenequeen · 04/05/2004 12:39

motherinferior · 04/05/2004 13:12

Ghosty · 04/05/2004 20:35

Oh Prufrock ... it sounds so similar to my wonderful experience with having DD ... soo lovely ... Glad you are home and everything is hunky dory

bells2 · 05/05/2004 09:59

well done Prufrock. The hospital certainly sounds just a tiny bit more appealing than the establishment where you had your first!

prufrock · 05/05/2004 11:54

Oh definately bells. Having said that, they did look after me wonderfully for 20 weeks to enable me to get to the stage where I was well enough to have him elsewhere.

never knew you had OC Prufrock, they thought I had it despite bile salts being negligible. I ended up getting 2nd opinion and arguiing the toss, but oddly the itching still goes on with me (18 mths after birth), so who knows what it is?
Congrats again, it sounds like a fabulous experience!
Sebastian sounds like a darling boy!
You sound so happy!
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Egypt · 05/05/2004 12:42
