Just a little note to say that our son, Michael, was born last Tuesday (4th), by c-section, weighing exactly 11lb. We arrived home this evening. He is a lovely baby, but has jaundice, so it's being monitored and we may have to be readmitted for treatment. I am fine - getting over the c-section more quickly this time than last, so far. The combination of his size and the jaundice means that I have a marathon job of feeding him on my hands!

oldiemum well done congrats
my ds was born aroundtghis time 2 yrs ago

and he was a great feeder, just 2oz heavier than yours!, bit jaundiced in the early days too but i think breastfeeding and sunlight helps that.
he feed quickly and succintly no messing around - give me the milk - and he was content, regular feeding every 2hrs maybe but hardly cried and great napper!

Congratulations Oldiemum (smile) - that's not meant to be an early portrait of Michael by the way!
Hope he manages to dodge the lamps and that all goes well on the feeding front.

Thanks for the lovely messages.
Moondog - I'm 44. By the way, for those of you who don't know, there is a nice story behind this. I had DD at 41, after 6 attempts at IVF. We very much wanted another, so we tried again 3 times, using frozen embryos, but without success. The fertility unit told us that we had an almost negligible chance of success with a fresh cycle, unless we were prepared to find a donor egg. We didn't want to do this and, essentially, gave up and tried to reconcile ourselves to having only DD - a huge gift in herself. Then I got pregnant naturally.

DD also had jaundice, but more seriously than Michael seems to have. I had mentally prepared myself for this happpening again and it made me determined to badger the staff about his skin colour and bilirubin level. I'm glad I did. It's still below treatable level and the community midwife will take another test today. I really don't want to go back into the hospital. The staff are lovely and very skilled, but I've been up on the floor where they put the more serious cases and there were deaths every night for the last three. It's not a good atmosphere for anyone worrying about their baby's health, however trivial the problem in comparison with those poor parents dealing with bereavement.
