Slinkstahs miracle cerclage baby! Home waterbirth

Birth story, after a Stillborn dd at 23 weeks last year due to preterm labour caused by incompetent cervix. Almost lost this baby too at 23 weeks as my cervix dilated again this time a rescue cerclage worked.
I struggled with doctors to let me have a homebirth as I have had previous cs 9 years ago with my first ds. This and the problems with my cervix of course they were far from keen, I knew after my last experience that I would not be able to cope mentally with a hospital birth. I managed to persuade the boss midwife who finally supported my decision and I was transferred to low risk care at 35 weeks.
My cerclage was taken out at 37 weeks and i was dilated to 5-6 cm probably since then but managed to hold baby in until 40+1 weeks (today)
This pregnancy has been very stressful and I thank all the wonderful people on the pg after mc thread for getting me through it.

Birth story ???.
woke up with baby moving strangely and what i thought to be a few contractions so i went to the loo and came online to start timing the contractions (4am), as soon as i came online i knew the contractions were stronguns so woke dp and told him to call the midwife and fill the pool

the following contractions were unbearable and i was almost screaming. it was like 0-60 in 1 second. i then needed to push and dp was running around trying to fill the birth pool and i was screaming for gas n air trying not to push as the midwifes were not yet here.
finally the midwifes arrived and i got some gas n air which i have to say was not as strong as in hospital! it didn't spin me out at all and i was also told that there was only half a tank left as some got wasted when they were sorting it out and so told take it easy. so i was slightly paniced about having enough.

i jumped into the pool which was only half full as the water tank was reheating for a second fill, it was lovely and for a second or two i had no pain, the next contractions i was pushing and i pooed and it was yuk-dp ran round with a sieve trying to grab it all.

the midwifes said ohh i think thats the head and my waters popped in the pool which looked like a puff of smoke. then the head came down and it blumin hurt like hell, there was no break between contractions and felt like a constant contraction.
a while later after loads of pushing the head came out and i felt it, and then the next push baby was free and moving his arms like he was swimming to the surface. (5.46am)

i reached down and grabbed him up and he breathed and he cryed straight away and cryed for a while. i held him in the water on me and was in shock i think.

the midwifes waited till the cord has stopped pulsating and then dp cut the cord and i past the baby to dp with a towel and i had another contraction, the midiwfe hauled me up and as i stood the placenta and some clots just flopped out.

i then got out of the pool which i have to say was really bloody and pooey and yukky, i sat down and put baby to breast and he suckled bit.

the midwife came and checked me over down there and said i had a tear although she was not sure whether to stitch it or not as it was small, in the end since it was muscle and was bleeding she decided to stitch so a nice sterile sheet was layed out on my living room floor and i lay down and dp got my desk lamp for light and the midwife stitched away while i puffed on the gas n air.
the midwifes then had a cuppa, weighed and checked out baby and packed up and left.

I then woke my ds and dd and they met their brother and had a few cuddles and then they got ready and went to school.

I have sat here all day looking at my baby who is so cute and so tiny, much smaller than previous kids but weighs more- bizarre! He is 7lb 12oz
He has a full head of short very neat dark hair and dark blue/green eyes, which i assume will turn brown very soon.

I am feeling amazed that I actually had a home waterbirth and I actually have a healthy live baby sitting gurgling next to me
We have called him Eden Taliesin

Many many congratulations on your wonderful homebirth, and hello to baby Eden. xxxxxx

slinkstah · 25/06/2006 11:28

Thanks for your wonderful posts, i am over the moon, Eden is amazing, and i can pee without pain today

oinker-pmsl i was shocked the neighbours didn't call the police thinking i was being murdered! i can't say i coped with the pain well i screamed and swore the place down- still have the sore throat for memories lol

It certainly wasn't a calm birth experience and its kinda what i imagine being induced would be like because it was so sudden, one minute i had a BH kind of contraction and then i was needing to push in agony.
still it was such a positive experience and even though the pg was so stressful he is completely worth it and i can even see myself doing it all over again, so it couldn't have been that bad lol

the name meanings are
Eden (Hebrew - Perfect, pleasure, delight. Famous reference: the biblical Garden of Eden)

Taliesin (celtic - Sixth century poet/Bard and author of the Book of Taliesin.)

kayzed- hope your ok hun

aww Slink well done, brave brave you, I cant normally read births as get in a right state. What a joy to have him in your arms.

The name gave me shivers,(in a good way!!), its a lovely combination . Taliesin is also the name given to one of Frank Lloyd Right's amazing homes in Arizona, a very special place. Its given me some ideas now as sooo stuck with names !!!

SnowBoo · 26/06/2006 14:21
