Hi everyone, just wanted to let you all know that tiny feet gave birth to a new little set of tinier feet, DD2, at 42 wks. 5 hours of labor, but not so bad after the epidural. Haven't decided on a name yet. For all those on the November/December/January thread (I participated in all of them ) - good luck to you all! It's worth the wait. . . Back to breastfeeding! Thanks to all you Mumsnetters for your support, encouragement, and good advice. I don't know how much I'll be on-line now that I've got 2 under 2.

Thanks everyone. Here's some more info on the delivery. Felt strong menstrual-cramp-like contractions in the morning while asleep. I timed them at roughly 15 minutes apart. I woke up DH and told him that we should try to move things along by having a little . DH was not so keen initially, as he was afraid that it was dangerous for the baby. Did not take much convincing though, and a few minutes after the deed, I was having really painful contractions. Went to hospital, was 6cm dilated - lots of painful contractions later, finally got an epidural (thank God!!), and then a few hours later was told to push - pushed a few times, and out she shot. It was not that bad really - much better than the first time. Sorry I think this is probably a boring birth story. I have been breastfeeding non-stop, but have really paid attention to the latch, as advised, and my nipples are not as painful as last time. I never pulled DD1 off to re-latch properly, but with DD2, I pulled her off a few times to ensure that her lips were flanged and she was getting more of the nipple in. That seems to have helped a bit. Still I am breastfeeding nearly every hour, but hoping that will change soon. Thanks again for all your good wishes, and will look for SraPostrophe and others on the Sore Nipples thread, if there is one. :0 Will try to remember how to change my name back, but til then, I am yours,
Tiny Feet

sounds like a dream labour !

mistletoes (tinyfeet) - don't forget to break her suction with your little finger before taking her off the nipple. If you pull her off mid suck you will get a sore one

Thanks mears - typing with one hand - while bf. Will have more questions 4 u soon.

Mears or someone, I took a quick look at the bf-topic, but didn't find anything exactly on this. I'm feeding 'on demand' - which does seem to be every hour right now . But I figure that's normal for a nearly 1 week old. My question though has to do with the fact that DD2 is sleeping in longer stretches during the day than in the evening. DD1 did the same thing, but I never woke DD1 up. Do you recommend that I wake DD2 up after 2 or 3 hours during the day for a feed, in the hopes that she sleeps longer stretches at night? TIA

Congratulations and well done Mistletoes and welcome to the world tinier feet. I would have posted earlier but only just back from hospital myself. Have been thinking of you over this last couple of weeks. Have you decided on a name yet?

SenoraPostrophe · 15/01/2004 18:21

mistletoes - yes!!! (they do say to feed at least every 3 hours for the first couple of weeks anyway). However I am going on my own experience and v selective reading on the topic - Mears may know better. I'm sure you won't do any harm by waking every 3 hours though - ds gets woken more often that that due to trips to the hosp and he's doing OK (and he sleeps for at least 1 3 hour stint every night. I would be psychotic by now if he didn't).
