HI,
thanks to all of you who have already congratulated us on the birth of Lucy, and thanks to Mojomummy for posting the details for me.
Lucy was delivered by elective c/section for breech at 9.50 on thursday 16th march, despite actually being head down!!!
the actual section took longer than my last one because Lucy was stuck under my ribs and had to be manually forced out by the consultant leaning on my ribs externally and the sho pulling her from inside. ouch! apart from that everything was realtivley straight forward. DH and I were overwhelmed by the fact she was a girl as despite several scans had been convince they had got it wrong and she would be a he, so to finally have a girl after 2 wonderul ds was the icing on the cake, particualrly as this pg was unplanned and had come at quite a bad time for us as a family, although all problems now sorted and hopefully on the up!
Lucy's full name is Lucy Agnes Molly, lucy because we liked it , agnes after my nan who died about the same time as we conceived and molly because ds2 wanted to call her molly, but it didn't sound right with our surname and also would have given initals MM.
unfortunatley thinhgs weren't so staright forward after the section, i felt fine in recovery and was able to move myself up the bed, even to sitting upright in bed with my legs over the edge in the afternoon. the m/w checked us over and noticed the catheter wasn't draining and so decided it was a faulty bag and would replace it when teh visitors had left, after repalcing it still didn't work and so they replaced the whole thing, again didn't drain, meanwhile i had begun to feel really il, my back was killing me particularly in the kidney area and i was beginning to find it difficult to breath, they put up some fluids and eventually my catheter started to work, then they decided i needed a blood transfusion, so had to go back to labour ward for that.
they gave me 2 units of blood on labour ward and sent me back to the postnatal ward, where i was feeling much better, they removed all my catheter and cannulas and took bloods to check my levels again. they then decided i needed more blood, but couldn't get a cannula back in, at which point i was really upset and just wanted to go home as they really didn't seem to know what they wee doing, it was eventually decided that i was too distressed to put up another transfusion and could go home the next day on iron supplements and strict instructions for diet to get iron into me as quickly as possible.
meanwhile with all this going on they had told me that Lucy's blood sugars were too low and she would either have to be formula fed for at least 24 hours or got to special care and be tube fed for as long as it took (predicited 3 days) so we decided to give her formula for 24 hours and now are trying to wean her off and onto breast feeding as i fed my other 2 and want to do the same for lucy.
we are getting there gradully and thankfully now wea rea home are all feeling well and resuming family life. i am desperate not to let the dreaful few days in hospital taint the beginnings of my memories of Lucy's first few days and writing this has helped me exorcise a few of the demons! :o
we are now looking forward to life a s fmaily of 5 the boys absolutley adore lucy and ds2 can't leave her alone. i am enjoying the novelty of dressing her in pink and may even consider moving onto lilac!!!:o thankfully she has hair and not as bald as a coot like my 2 ds were and so hopefully she will soon have a full head of ahir to amke her look more girly.(she's bound to turn out to be a tomboy)
once again thanks to all of you for your messages of congratulations ans support and i look forward to being able to rejoin the mumsnet community on a regular basis as before and look forward to advice on how to raise a girl!
