Congratulations Rhubarb! Know what you mean about the shock - my wee one was born after I'd been in the hospital an hour, and I was literally shaking afterwards. It's all so much easier when you've done it before, honestly. Lots of love, R.

Cam · 14/12/2003 01:15

Oh well done Rhubarb, I'm so pleased for you, it sounds to me like you did a great job!

elliott · 14/12/2003 13:42

well done rhubarb - definitely agree that kneeling over something is a good position for minimising damage!

Hello! Sorry it's still baby-no-name as yet. I like the name Bailey but dh doesn't. So far I think we might both have to compromise on Jack, but we're just holding out to see if anything better comes along as Jack is probably no.1 on the popular boys names list.

I am just about recovering now. I would recommend a birthing ball to anyone expecting btw, they are brilliant! Although I never want to see mine again! My stitches have come out already and I can just about walk again! You forget how long and painful the process of recovery is don't you? B/f is also very painful again, but we're perservering with that one.

He's sleeping well(ish), we just need to teach him the difference between night and day! Where's that Contented Little Baby Book?! And I am slowly coming round to the idea of having a boy instead of a girl as I had hoped! I don't think we've quite bonded yet, it doesn't help that b/f is so bloody painful, but it will come I'm sure. And the Dalton Regime seems to be working, I feel very reasonable and sane (if a little tired and sore!). I'm just so relieved not to be pregnant anymore.

As for the birth, well I felt EVERTHING and I was aware of EVERYTHING. It is something I will never, ever forget or truly get over. But I am glad I did it, the relief when I felt him come out was quite overwhelming! I didn't want to look at him at first, I just wanted to flop down and cry with relief! I couldn't quite believe that we'd both made it. Then I put my foot in something and realised what a mess I'd made! Yuk! And my placenta was something to be proud of! Huge!

Thanks for all your good wishes! No doubt I'll be posting more often now on the breastfeeding and sleeping threads!

Northerner · 18/12/2003 16:30

Just seen this one Rhubarb. Congratulations.

luchar · 18/12/2003 16:37

Oh, try and persuade your DH about Bailey - it is a gorgeous name! Maya Angelou's brother is/was called Bailey and I love her books. I wanted to call DS1 Bailey but my sister had got there first and called her (very lovely!!) dog Bailey so I couldn't! I also like Mitchell and Nathan FWIW! Hope you can choose soon!!

LubieLoo · 18/12/2003 22:28

Congratulations Rhubarb and little baby Rhubard

mammya · 18/12/2003 23:31

Congratulations Rhubarb, welcome to baby!

tigermoth · 19/12/2003 08:05

Glad you're recovering, Rhubarb, and hope that name hunt goes well. I found nice boys names are more thin on the ground, but I like Bailey.

Looks like the memory of this birth will be very vivid. Not a piece of p* experience that you'll soon forget.

Demented · 19/12/2003 15:54

Oh I like Bailey Rhubarb, just keep reminding DH how painful the whole experience was and how it may help numb the memory to give him the name you like .

WickedXmasWitch · 20/12/2003 10:06

Ouch Rhubarb at your birth story. I hope your dh comes round to Bailey, I like it too.

Not Jack! there are too many Jacks in this world at the moment. Sounds like you are coping really well and don't worry about (not) bonding - hormones will get you eventually...
