A dd for Ellen Rose - the arrival story . . . . finally

This has taken an age to get posted so apologies to all for lack of details but anyway . . .
On 24th Jan it I was allowed to go in for my pre-booked induction (due to severe SPD) however having had the first lot of prostin and a sweep at 9.30am my contractions only really progressed to "mild". When the shift changed at 6.30pm as I was still having some contractions they did not want to give me another dose and so left it for the night. The contractions continued being strong enough to keep me awake during the night but finally stopped altogether.

At 7.30am the next day, I had my second dose of prostin but absolutely nothing happened . . . at all. The doctor came to examine me and said that I could either have one more dose of the prostin using the tablets, I could have more prostin but using gel or I could see if the delivery suite would take me to try and break my waters (up until now my cervix had been too high to try). I asked if we could just get straight to breaking the waters but unfortunately the delivery suite was really busy so I faced another night waiting. Sad
At 6.30am on Thursday morning, the midwife said that the delivery suite had finally calmed down so I could be taken downstairs. There they did another examination and broke my waters, and despite her heart rate initially dropping quite badly it soon recovered and so they let me get up and walk around for a bit to see if labour started naturally - it didn't.
I am not great with needles so not sure why I said it was ok for the midwife (who was learning) to have a go at putting in the canula (sp?) whilst being supervised by my doctor, but a long time later and having covered most of the bed and me in blood, the drip was in.
The contractions did start to progress but they kept turning up the drip until they were coming every couple of minutes at which point I called for the G&A.
As a slight bit of background, my SIL had been looking after my ds2 for the previous two days but was not able to get to nursery to collect him at 5.30pm that day so we knew that my dh would have to leave part way through the afternoon to rush him home Sad
Once the G&A was fixed up to be honest I was not really with it but I could hear my dh talking to the midwife and asking when they would be examining me again so that he knew how dilated I was. All I heard was that he would have to leave but I had no idea what the time was. Whilst they were discussing doing another exam I felt the need to get on with it and started to push. My dh realised I was squeezing his hand slightly harder than before and asked if I was ok, the midwife checked between my legs and there was Maisies head!! Shock The midwife shouted "oh shit" and ran to get gloves and started to say that "with the next contraction her shoulders will . . ." and with that the rest of my 8lb 5.5oz daughter arrived.Smile
I had to have a few stitches because the delivery was not exactly controlled but it did mean I had to go in stirrups which I had dreaded because of my pelvis. I had two midwives who were again learning so with an audience my two stitches took 45 minutes to complete. I have never been so willing to have a pessary shoved up my bottom [grin} for the very welcome pain relief.
My dh was able to collect ds2 from nursery and bring him straight to see us in the delivery suite. Ds2 walked through the door, looked at my tummy and said "is there another Maisie in there?" Blush
5 weeks on and dd is doing very well and writing this makes it seem a very long time ago - couldn't imagine life without her now Smile
