A more detailed birth story, for those who are interested!

My waters started to leak at 5 am on the 26th (Sunday). I put on a pad, and went back to sleep. At 9 I got up, hoovered, mopped and cleaned, then mentioned to dp and kids that they may get to meet the baby today. I was having mild, fairly irregular contractions, and more leakage when I moved - so I kept moving.
I informed the labour ward at 12, and called my friend to come and babysit for DDs1&2. She was on the wrong side of London and took 3 hours to get to me, but contractions were still irregular, though a bit stronger.

DP and I left for the hospital, and arrived before 4pm. I was monitored, and noticed that contractions were every five minutes and getting stronger!(White coat syndrome?) I was only 2cm dilated at 4.30 but moving along. Baby's heart was droppig significantly with contractioons, but recovering, so stayed on monitor on bed.
By 5pm I was 6 cm, and on the g&a, and decided that standing was better for me, and babySmile. After another 1/2 hour my legs were too wobbly to stand any more, and baby objected to me lying, but was fully dilated. Didn't get an urge to push, but baby's alarming dips in heart rate and slowing recovery time meant things had to be hurried up a bit, so ventouse was used (meaning also had episiotomy) and my son Grin ( still can't say it without the Grin) was born with the next contraction, with the cord twice round his neck, at 6.06 pm.

He has lots of dark hair (all I could take in, after two bald daughters) and was very alert once untangled.

Dr spent 1/2 an hour stitching, then I got tea and toast, and spent the rest of the night gazing into his eyes Smile, then home the next morning to sleep.

Jasnem · 01/03/2006 14:09
