Hunkermunker Has Two Boys!

So, some of you know up to the bit where I posted "I'm going in" at about half eleven in the morning.

Got to the hospital at about quarter past twelve, DS1 (first time I've typed that - lol!) wasn't very well (temp of 40.3 that morning), so DH dropped me off with my mum and took him home, saying he'd be back about 4ish, the earliest someone could look after DS1 - didn't think I was really in active labour, just that it was a bit strong, but by no means unbearable.

Midwife went to prepare pool room, the same place DS1 was born, and took me into the adjoining room at about 1ish. Put me on the monitor, examined me and found me to be 4cm. Had a few contractions on the bed, then got up and they got a bit stronger, but still only about 45 seconds and three minutes or so apart - all perfectly bearable too.

Both midwives went on a break about 1.45 and I had a sudden urge to push, which turned out to be my waters breaking (fortunately the midwife who'd just come in had brought a mop and bucket with her, but it was to mop up the pool room - the birthing pool had had a bit of a fit and sprayed all over the floor, as well as only run hot water for some reason!).

They put me back on the monitor lying on the bed for a couple of contractions at 1.50, and then I got up and stood next to the bed. I was halfway through asking when the pool would be ready when I realised it was going to be too late - at 2pm, I had an overwhelming urge to push and the midwife told me to get on the bed. I had literally no idea which bit of me to move first to achieve this, but somehow I managed it, and DS2 was born five minutes later (small tear, six or seven internal stitches)!

And after all that "is it a small baby, ooh, we're a bit worried, not growing properly" stuff...he was 8lb 1oz (but you already know that ).

He is absolutely lovely - very calm, very alert and has masses of dark hair! Will post a pic in a mo (Oh, and the epic story of The Blood Sugar Levels And The Baby Who Fed His Way Out Of Trouble ).

Congratulations Hunker, and welcome mini-Hunker mark 2. Oh, I so wish I could have been there to see the midwife with the formula!

Congratulations hunkermunker and welcome to your new little son.

Shame you didn't get into the pool but glad you had a good birth. I am confused as to why you had to be put on a monitor though after your waters broke - I would have thrown you into the pool

hunkermunker · 21/01/2006 14:56

Pool had gone mental (only run hot water and sprayed everywhere!) - and actually, in retrospect (would put hindsight, but as I delivered on all fours, I won't... ), I had a better delivery on land than in water, tear-wise, so wasn't fussed!
