Well, Miles Theodore was born at 10.30 last night after a zen-like 3.5 hour labour and 3 pushes. At home in the birthing pool as planned. It was fantastic, and completely relaxed, and couldn't have been more different to my previous two labours! No tearing/stitching, practically no blood loss, all perfect. Oh, and 8lbs 9oz.
He is lovely and sweet and has just given me 4 hours sleep so hurrah for Miles!
Will post more later...
PPH xx

Oh well done. Always good to hear a lovely home birth story. So glad everything went as planned.

Bekki · 09/09/2003 16:18

Having a relaxed labour really helps in the first few weeks to bond with your baby. I'm so glad to hear it all went to plan and enjoy every single moment have with your newborn, they don't seem to stay that way.

Can't believe all these messages, I'm extremely touched.
Should really post on the home birth thread, because it was such a great experience. Went into labour as the children went to bed, just after 7, contracted every 10 mins or so while I had my supper, then from 8 to 9.30 contracted every 6 -7 mins, and hopped in the birthing pool at 9.40. It was fantastic - made the contractions (which really weren't bad at all anyway) even more manageable and completely relaxed me. Contractions were never more than about 40s long, so really fine to deal with. Midwife turned up at 10.15, I had 2 more zen like contractions, then said "bloody hell, I can feel him coming". Had one huge contraction and he crowned, another two (during which I was demanding gas and air apparently) and he was out at about 10.30! Midwife swam him through my legs and said "are you going to pick him up?" So I did! It was just amazing.
Sat in the pool for another hour waiting for the placenta, then got on dry land and waited another hour and a half for the placenta to come which it duly did (physiological third stage), then dh cut the cord, Miles did a MASSIVE poo and had to get hosed down in the birthing pool, I had a bath, dd came to admire him and went back to bed, and we all went to sleep. SO NICE!
I'm sitting cross legged in no pain at all, my pelvic floor feels as good as it was beforehand, I haven't had so much as a paracetamol, and everything is just dandy. Except of course, he is a complete bugger and not interested in feeding, so I'm sure it is all downhill from here... just to inject some reality into proceedings.
Thank you so much everyone for your messages, it is really kind... and I'm definitely waving the flag for home births and especially birthing pools - the whole thing would have been much for painful and stressful out of the water.

Bl@@dy brilliant PPH, exactly what I'd always dreamed of (reality somewhat different). Hopefully those wanting a homebirth wil be able to use you as an example of how brill it can be.

What a lovely birth story. I am sure Miles will start feeding when he can be bothered Just keep offering him lots of skin-to-skin contact to get his interest going. Congratulations.
