Azure's arrival

I'm delighted to announce that Benjamin Thomas arrived safe and sound on Thursday 18th. DH and I arrived at hospital at 7.30am for my planned c-section and by 9.45am I had a baby! The poor couple who checked in 5 minutes later than us had to wait until the afternoon due to the high number of emergency c-sections taking place that day. Benjamin weighed 6 lbs 15 oz - smaller than DS1 (8 lbs 3oz), but I guess DS2 was almost 2 weeks earlier. I was out of hospital Saturday afternoon, after just two nights, and all seems to be going well (ok, apart from complete lack of sleep and sore nipples). I feel in better shape than when I had DS1 and experienced the joys of ventouse, forceps and a 3rd degree tear, and am amazed at how small the scar is from the c-section. DS1 is very excited, although his over-enthusiasm means that I have to restrain him from trying to hold or jump on the baby the whole time.

Thanks for your kind messages. I forgot to add the small detail of how DH fainted whilst in the operating theatre. He has a needle phobia, but managed to avoid looking while the epidual was put in and so I though we were over the worst (for him). While we are waiting for the anaesthetic to work, however, he came over very pale and before I knew it he was lying on the floor surrounding by the operating theatre team and with an oxygen mask on his face. I was left by myself on the operating table. Once he came to they started with the caesarian, but DH stayed lying down during most of the operation. Luckily I found this amusing, once I knew he was alright, but unfortunately have been forbidden to tell any of our family or friends in the real world.
