I took 3 home pregnancy tests and they all came up positive. When I went to the doctor yesterday he said that my urine test was negative. When he did an internal sonogram he said my uterus wall was extremely think but it was empty. In my past I had 2 miscarriages between my 2 and 3 months and one that I was almost 5 months but the baby didn?t have a heart beat. The doc took my blood to thought it was extremely strange that the doc?s urine tests came out negative and my EBT?s came check out my levels and then have to go back 48hrs to see if the levels were going up or not. #1 I out positive. #2 does anyone know what else this could be?

Hi - can't really help but hope someone else can. I had this the otherway around - the hospital blood test said I was not pregnant and the Clearblue test said I was...and I was! The midwife I saw said it was due to the level of hormone that the blood test is for - urine tests look for any HCG/HGC(???) whereas with the blood it has to reach a certain level to get a positive. I'm sorry I don't know about it the other way around. Why don't you put out a post for Mears - she is a midwife and extremely helpful?

Home pregnancy tests can actually be more accurate than hospital ones. When you have a positive test but no sign of a pregnancy in the womb it could mean that

  1. The pregnancy is very early and has not yet been seen by the ultrasound
  2. A misscarriage has happened, so the pregnancy is not still there but the hormones have not completely gone
  3. There might be an ectopic pregnancy which means that the egg has implanted outside the womb. Checking the levels of beta HCG will give an indication of whether this has happened. If the pregnancy is in a fallopian tube it will not be able to develop properly and can cause bleeding if it bursts the tube. Your doctor will keep a close eye on things to see what is actually happening. Sorry that you have this uncertainty just now.

I WANT TO THANK LUCHAR AND MEARS FOR YOU INFO BACK TO ME BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT IS ANOTHER MISCARRIAGE. I AM EXTREMELY SADDENED BY THIS AND MY HUSBAND IS TAKEN IT A LOT HARDER THEN THE LAST TIMES. I WILL BE SEEING A HIGH RISK DOCTOR AFTER THIS IS ALL OVER. HOPEFULLY THIS NIGHTMARE WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. THANKS FOR YOU COMMENTS BACK. IT MEANS A LOT TO ME.

So sorry to read this Napier. I cannot imagine hoe it feels to go through this a second time, but it is very cruel and it happens all too often it seems. I hope it does't stop you trying to have the baby you so much deserve. Lots of love to you and your DH. Take care and look after each other.
