How many hymns in Church in Wales service for my mother

who died yesterday?

She was ready to go and is at peace now. I'm distracting myself with thinking of the hymns she loved and wondered if anyone knows how many we'll need? Church service then cremation.

I've tried trawling through CIW site but lots of text that I can't face and I'm sure the service has changed since I was a Christian.

for your loss Earthymama - Would 3 be about right - I went to a Catholic funeral Mass a few months ago and there were about 3 hymns -

p.s. you can have something nice played at the crem - FIL died a month ago and we had recordings of several favourite tunes - my Granny had a beautiful piec e of Bach at the crem for hers, following her funeral Mass

Sorry for your loss Earthy

Three is about right for the church service. We went to a church service recently where one of them was the welsh national anthem and there was only one hymn at the crematorium. If you ask the vicar or minister, he/she will be able to tell you.

I'm guessing it's similar to the coe ones - in which case the average is 2/3 - however if you speak to the vicar they'll be able to tell you - there's rarely an "limit" (unless it's totally ott).

I played for one last year - they had 4 hymns at the church, plus "god so loved the world" sung my 2 close friends of the deceased. Another had only one.

If there's anything you want played the organist doesn't have - so be afraid to ask to take a CD and play it - quite common these days for something to be played on a CD - even in the church.

Sorry for your loss

Sorry for your loss. At my DH's funeral we had songs on a CD played at the beginning and the end of the service, three hymns and 2 songs sung by a choir he was a member of. I hope that helps.

Thank you...I should be cleaning the house but have got rotten cold and chest infection and no chocolate so thought I'd remember Mam singing like a crow to her favourite hymns, Bless her!!

I'll let you know what we decide on, 'The Day Thou Gavest' will definately be there.

Her faith was a real comfort so I'm happpy that we'll be able to come together to remember her and all of that generation that are gone now, Mam would have been 91 next week.

that's a great age earthy - am sure you'll give her a very fitting send off xx

It was a lovely day.

we had, The Day thou Gavest, The Lord's my Shepherd and Abide with Me.

An old friend gave a eulogy, my daughter read a poem, and it was all very gentle and very nice, just like my mother.

We talked at the wake about her life with my cousins and looked at old photos.

Lots of nice food and cakes in her honour, made with love by my daughter.

I slept for about 14 hours afterwards.

Thank you all for your good wishes EM

Three of my favourites there Earthymama, it sounds as though you made the service very personal and a fitting tribute to your lovely mum. Thinking of you xx
