Need to numb my feelings

Has anyone found a medication that can effectively numb the sadness and depression. Something like propranolol does for anxiety, to take on the bad days?

My husband has recently died and some days I just feel like I can’t function due to grief (I have to for DD) Those days I wish there was some kind of medication I could take to numb my emotions and get through the day rather than taking a regular daily antidepressant dose.

Recently widowed too. Am taking sertraline and although it took about six weeks to adapt to it, it has helped immensely. Hand hold for you. The pain and sadness is almost unbearable at times. having someone else to be strong for really helps.

Sorry to hear you’re recently widowed too @Velvetgoldmine. I actually already take a high dose of sertraline for anxiety. I just wish there was something I could take at those times when the grief gets overwhelming, you know that pain feeling deep in your chest? And to help me be able to deal with it and be strong for DD on the day of his funeral.

You could ask your doctor about lorazepam. It is a short term bandaid rather than a long term solution as it is dependency forming if taken regularly. But it can be a very good quick fix for something awful like getting through a funeral.
Good luck.

Is that a similar thing to diazepam @Bobbie12345678? I’ll speak to the doctor about it, thank you

Just sending a hand hold. It feels as though the pain of grief is unbearable to begin with. Well done for soldiering through for your child.

Definitely speak to your doctor. They will be able to recommend something to help you. I am so sorry you are going through this. Your daughter probably feels she needs to be strong for you too. You will be able to help each other through. I hope you have supportive friends or relatives too - don't be afraid to lean on them when you need to. Am sending you a virtual hug and wishing you all the strength.
