Confused?!

Hi, I lost my mum 3 weeks ago to terminal cancer. It was her funeral today and I feel really confused as a close family member told my husband ‘death looks good on her’.
I’ve been under alot of stress with my mum being ill then passing so I’ve lost a bit of weight so I’m guessing they meant that but I’m just so confused at the wording.
Anyone heard of this as a saying or is this person just a bit mad with their wording?
I think it was meant as a compliment I’m just having a hard time accepting it as one.
Thanks

Never heard that at all, and I think it's extremely insensitive and inappropriate.

Parksinyork · 25/08/2025 21:26

I think it was probably a cackhanded compliment.

Kattley · 25/08/2025 21:32

What a crass, insensitive thing to say. I’m sorry for your loss.

Was this an old person?
It's the sort of crass thing my mother would come out with.

Sorry for your loss Flowers

I’m sorry for your loss, what was your husbands response to this idiot? X

myplace · 25/08/2025 21:44

Don’t pay any attention to it. It’s someone’s crap attempt at lightening the atmosphere. I think it’s a line from a movie. She’s saying you were nicely presented at the funeral, that’s all.

Gingercar · 25/08/2025 21:49

I think you’re right, it probably was said as a compliment because you’ve lost weight. But it was incredibly badly worded!

Incredibly insensitive thing for someone to say. Sorry for your loss.

I think it's a saying from a movie: "Death becomes her"
