My DH died six months ago. I’ve been wondering if bereavement counselling helps. Can anyone recommend it?

I’m so sorry for your loss @Pivilepivling💐 Watching with interest - hopefully someone with direct experience will jump on this thread soon 😊

Sorry for your loss. My friend had bereavement counselling after her mother passed away. I think it worked well for her. My son had some sessions after he lost 3 grandparents in 3 years, it definitely did help

I had some after my mum died. I found it helpful to talk in detail about it in a way no one else really gives you space to.

I am very sorry about your husband.

Thanks for your kindness. How can I access bereavement counselling?

Via your gp or direct with CRUSE

When my husband died I didn’t have any counselling at all. I remarried (a widower - who also didn’t have counselling after his wife died). When our son died we were adamant we were to have counselling for us and our remaining children.

it was absolutely the best thing we could have done. I found it invaluable for not only the fresh grief but also for past bereavements including my late husband and my father. I came away feeling much better and I have a new found respect for counselling. I would recommend it to anyone suffering any sort of loss/trauma/grief.

My therapist has got me through the last year. Probably will continue for awhile. Everyone is different, as are therapists. Personally I opted for an established therapist who specialises in grief and trauma.
i went private as the mhs offering just wasn’t the right fit. Which they agreed with.

I had counselling from Mind after the suicide of ds last October. It didn't do any harm. But to be honest I did so much research on grief and have very good friends for support. So I'm not sure on reflection how much it helped.
But I would say to anyone, give it a go.
