Grandparents house sold

My mum and her siblings have just sold my grandparents house and the new people have the keys now. My grandad passed away last year and he was my last grandparent, I was close with him.

I went to the house for 39 years on a regular basis. There were lots of happy memories with my grandparents and family parties. I know times change and they had to sell the house. I just feel upset I will never go in that property again, it was like a second home.

This is always really hard but it does get easier. The things that comfort me are to mentally visit the house and memories in my mind and also to think that now another family gets to share happy loving memories in the house together.

The love and security you shared with your family in that house will always be with you.

Thank you. We took videos and my brother did a video and filmed waking round the house so I suppose we are lucky we can relive those moments.

We will always remember the love and memories.

It’s very hard, OP. I felt this way when my Dad sold my childhood home after my Mum died. I didn’t want to see it for years. But, I drove by last year and the garden looked lovely, someone is clearly enjoying living there. It made me feel happy!

No one will ever take away your memories, OP. Now others will make their memories there. 💐

My father who is nearly 90 went on holiday this year so he could go and look at the area where his grandma lived as he had such fond memories of his grandmother and her home. The owners of the house saw him looking and hovering outside and invited him in to see the changes over the 75 years since his grandma passed on.

He had such a great time he wants to go on holiday again next year to see it all again.

Hope that makes you smile - in his day there were no videos and very few photos - though I had shown him pictures from street view and rightmove of the house

I am in the process of selling my DPs house. They lived there for 56 years and I'm struggling to let go. To help me I've taken cuttings from their garden, taken and upcycled some of the furniture. It's a tough process but now that the majority of the furniture is out I'm finding it easier as it no longer feels like the family home. It has been sold to a young family and I can only hope that they have as many happy times in there as we did. Meanwhile we have happy memories of a lovely home Flowers
