She was stillborn on Friday

I don't want a traditional wreath but other than that not sure. Pinks for sure. No teddies, hearts or similar.

so sorry to hear your sad news. When my gran died (years and years ago) we kids got a white cushion of carnations - it was really nice. How about a pink cushion?

You need to consider the shape as well as the flowers. I would think a posy shape would be lovely. How about seasonal flowers?

cece · 16/04/2008 11:14

I have looked up the meanins of flowers

white carnations - rememberance
Forget-Me-Not - remember me forever
Gardenia - joy
Geranium - comfort
Ginger - proud

Larkspur - beautiful spirit
Gypsophila - Pure of heart Innocence
Hyacinth (Purple) - Please forgive me; Sorrow

NorthernLurker · 16/04/2008 14:47

so sorry for your loss

Rosemary is well known for rememberance as well. It is nice to have good scented things I think as well and personally I like the scent of freesias very much. Do you have an independant florist you could consult? I'm sure they would do their best to help. I remember a florist we knew coming over and crying with my mum about flowers she was doing for a baby's funeral. The parents wanted a present shape and she really pulled out all the stops for them.

BettySpaghetti · 16/04/2008 14:56

The florist we went to for flowers for my Dad's funeral last month was lovely. They had an album of the types of arrangements you could choose (that gave a good starting point), offered advice when we needed it on types of flowers and colours etc. I'm sure your local florists could show you something similar.

From my DC we chose a lovely posey type arrangement -it was lovely and seemed fitting from children.

I would probably suggest a posey for your niece, maybe selecting the main flower from your list of flowers meanings.

When we had to buy flowers for a similar occasion we bought a small handtied posy of seasonal flowers, it was early spring, so had dafodils, muscat hyasinst and tulips etc.

suedonim · 16/04/2008 15:16

Oh, how sad, what an awful task to have to do. Years ago we sent a posy for the funeral of a school mate of ds1's. For a baby, I think either spring flowers or soft pink roses would be lovely.

Ceolas · 16/04/2008 22:45

on second thoughts is a heart shape completely awful?

Thinking of sending from the DCs...

I chose a selection of white cut flowers for a baby's funeral - just tied with white ribbon - simple and pretty

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/04/2008 08:47

very sorry for the loss of your niece btw xxx

FloriaTosca · 17/04/2008 08:58

So very sorry for you and your familys loss.
I had a single white bud rose for my late m/c baby girl...it felt appropriate to us; pure & innocent. And we bought a tree to plant in her memory.

Ceolas · 17/04/2008 10:54

Thanks for all your suggestions.

We have gone for a small bouquet of baby pink roses and white freesia, hand tied with pastel pink organza ribbon.
