Beautiful walking in music? Suggestions?

Hi,
we are having trouble thinking of walking in music for a funeral service at the crematorium? Can anyone suggest anything? We don't want anything to maudlin or over sentimental.

How about Hopipola by Sigur Ros? I'd love it but maybe too uplifting.

Gabriel's Oboe by Ennio Morricone .

Something with pan flutes - absolutely beautiful. I think instrumental is best when walking in/out. Sorry for your loss, I’m sure your choices will be just right.

Sweet Song by Blur is lovely if you want something non traditional

Did the deceased have any particular favourite artist? Maybe find an orchestral version of something by them? Or a favourite film - you could choose something from the score.

We had My way by Frank Sinatra for my dad, it fit his personality.

For mum we had Dolly Partons when Jesus comes calling for me, because she loved it.

Are there any songs your mum really liked?

How about Charles Villiers Stanford, The Bluebird?
It's beautiful, calm, not sentimental or maudlin

Sanctus and In Paradisum from Fauré's requiem also beautiful.

Whatever you choose, best to think of something you don't mind not listening to ever again (from experience!).

The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams is so beautiful- lilting, melancholic but not sad.

ProstituteHair · 08/04/2023 00:15

@Yoyoyo1 tell us about the person.

It might help with suggestions.

For orchestral versions of songs have a look at the piano guys on YouTube. They do some absolutely beautiful versions of well known songs.

We had Pachabel for my lovely mum she adored it.

We had an instrumental version of an old Journey song at a recent one.

We had "Why worry" by Dire Straits for my mum, and it has a lovely long instrumental beginning.

The lord is my Shepard by Howard Goodall…also known as the vicar of dibley song! It’s a beautiful piece of music and people smile when they realise that it’s also the vicar of dibley.

Serenade for Strings, Tchaikovsky- one of the slower movements

newtb · 11/04/2023 18:12

The slow movements from Mendelssohn's organ sonatas, from one of the 2 in minor keys.

orangeflags · 11/04/2023 19:03

How old was the deceased? Perhaps something from their youth?
