My late friend.

One of my primary school friends passed away from Covid in mid 2020.

I always send a Christmas card to her Mum. Last year I did put "remembering Emma* at Christmas and always" - do you all think that is still appropriate now, two years on? I'd also like to include a seasonally relevant and fun memory of her that I have from school, but would that cause even more upset? I miss her so very much, I can't imagine how her Mum feels.

*not her real name.

Of course it is OK. It is more than OK. Her mum will remember every day and will feel that you care and that is nice

I think what you're doing is perfect and will bring her great comfort including seasonal anecdotes. If my daughter ever has a friend who thinks so much of her that she sent me a card each Xmas if we lost her I'd be over the moon. Just knowing that when she was alive she had someone so lovely and thoughtful in her life would be wonderful. ❤️ Knowing it wasn't just me who grieved her loss would be a comfort.

I lost a special person this year and if I received any greetings cards that referenced them in a funny or heartfelt way it would really bring me a sense of happiness.

I think that’s a lovely card to send , complete with anecdote.

I’m sorry for your loss.

How lovely and thoughtful. I can imagine that her mum will find so much comfort in your words and expression of love for your friend x

Absolutely

It’s really important to remember people.

I am always happy when people refer to my late DH, it helps me to know he is not forgotten. I think it is a lovely idea to remember her in the card.

Writing this thread has made me cry. I say primary school friend but I meant that we met in primary school and were friends from then on. She was magic - full of beans, always smiling, kind, thoughtful and able to put anyone at ease. She and her Mum were very alike - growing up her Mum welcomed us all, I can't count the number of times her home was full of teenagers and she always fed us all too! I'm off to write her card and a little letter now too.

Awwww @tortiecat she sounds lovely! What gorgeous memories you have and how lucky you found each other! Special people never truly leave our hearts do they. ❤️💕 Sounds like you and her mum will both benefit from remembering her with someone who just "gets" how special she was and therefore what you've lost and what memories you treasure. 💐

Absolutely, op. I've done this for years with a late friend's parents and I know it means so much to them when their late child's friends keep in touch and remember.

Here if you want to talk anytime, feel free to dm me.

And if you'd like to talk about your friend, we'll happily listen. Flowers
